Doc requested progesterone blood test but confused what DPO to get it

Hi! I posted 6 weeks ago about short LPs I am having. 6 past cycles have been 6-8 day LPs. Finally saw doc 2 weeks ago and he wants to do a progesterone test. He said it's standard to test on cycle day 21-22. I brought my charts with me and I've always ovulated on day 16 or 17 so from what I've read online shouldn't it be done 7DPO? That would be cycle day 23 this month. So my question is:

Should I go in as he requested on cycle day 21 or 22 (I will be 5 or 6 DPO) or should I go at 7DPO based on my ovulation this month? I fear that I may have my period by 7 DPO as it's happened before! But I keep reading that at 5 DPO the progesterone test isn't accurate as it hasn't peaked yet.

Also, forgot to ask him but is there a certain time of day I should get blood drawn? Does that matter? Do I have to fast?

    Go in on 7dpo.

    ETA:  You don't need to fast and it doesn't really matter what time of day.
    Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
