Your type-GTKY

What kind of guy is your husband/SO?  Suit and tie?  Jeans and t shirt?  Is he your usual type of did you marry outside of your norm?

MH is exactly my type; blue collar, steel toes boots, shaved head, baseball hat, drives an old beat up truck.  That was what my best friend said when she met him for the first time, wow he is exactly the guy I've always pictured you with.  I can appreciate a man in a nice suit, but my heart will always belong to a nice blue collar boy.

Re: Your type-GTKY

  • DH prefers to be a jeans and tshirt guy, although he goes business casual during the week. He is a programmer for a local company here in the area and is definitely a nerd. And yes, he fits my type, I always was attracted to the smart, nerdy guys.

  • DH is a jeans, t shirts and cowboy boots. He works as a fireman...so his suit is a little different. Totally my type. He reminds me of my dad in some ways...kinda freaky.

Yea, my DH is a lot like my dad was.  It makes sense though because my parents had a wonderful marriage, and I always wanted a marriage like their's.  Since I am a lot like my mom, it kind of makes sense that I married a guy that's a lot like my dad.

  • My H is a jeans and tshirt guy but he has to dress formally for work. So I see him in a suit more then I do his scruffy holey t-shirts. He's too cheap to buy great fitting suits or trendy clothes. Good thing he's super cute. ;)

He's a goofy guy who laughs too loud, runs obsessively, and never stops arguing. Totally my type. :)
  • I don't think I have a 'type'.
Other than someone that is fun and not an idiot.

DH looks awesome in a suit, business casual, casual or comfy (pjs).
He wears a uniform to work. He's a store manager.

My exes have been nerds mostly...but not always.
Computer geeks. Cooks. Chefs. Psych hospital attendant. Card dealer at a Casino. Electrician. Delivery guy.

I don't really know how I compare to his exes...I only really know things about the most recent one. I'd say we are kinda similar appearance-wise, but completely different attitude-wise.

  • Oh my husband is so country. He thinks that waltmart clothes are sufficient..haha mainly a jeans and whatever the cheapest shirt i can find kind of guy!

I don't really have a "type" since all three guys i dated are all different!
But DH is very much like my father as well so i ended with the right guy! Haha

He is a jeans and graphic t-shirt guy, pretty clean cut, and can't grow facial hair to save his life! He just ends up with 15-year-old-trying-too-hard peach fuzz.

He works for the provincial gov't so is more business casual for work. He's often goofy, and keeps me laughing, but he's also super sweet and romantic. Totally my type!

  • DH is a jeans and tee shirt kinda guy but in a slightly dressy way... He's more likely to be seen in a Lacoste shirt than like a concert tee. He cleans up pretty well for important meetings or events.

It's bizarre but he, like others have said, is just like my dad. He's very corporate... But on weekends he's a totally "manly man" who can fix roofs, rebuild cars, and do whatever other things manly men do lol. They even had similar jobs... My father was a CPA and DH is currently working in accounting and finance... creepy

Bonus... He's a boxer (just a hobby not pro for money) which I find super sexy ;)
  • Whelp I'll fess up to the metro dude. although I constantly tell him I prefer a more toned down style (think flannel shirts and nice jeans) But that may be because I know he can pull off "clean cut rugged" like no other. mmm muscles. lol

for a better visual of clean cut rugged... he was a Marine. that should suffice. Not country boy. Not suit and tie (but I'm sure he'd love that. he owns a few expensive suits)

he uses a straight razor for his shave that's a part of a 4 step process. He takes longer to get ready than I ever will. But my skin is softer so I'm winning in that dept haha. He even has a little teeny tiny jar of cufflinks and one of collar stays. Irons his shirt every morning. Hilarious. so not my type... hence the repeating request to tone it down a notch. bonus: he does all the laundry.
  • DH is a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. When we first met and married he worked in the corporate world and dresses up every day but now he works in a military position and wears uniform every day. He does fit my type, but really is a more mature version (and I mean that in a good way).

The one thing about him that is really different is that he isn't really into sports but is more of a car guy. I'm a huge sports fan and often arrange my schedule around games. The great thing is that we have no problem with going our own way to do things and are able to take part in each others interests too. He actually knows something about football and I can identify a lot more collector cars now :).

  • MH is a contractor so most if the time he is in dirty clothes and covered in paint or dust.
When we go out he is a jeans and tshirt guy.

My DH is a mechanic. That's how we ended up meeting. His friend was my manager/friend and he suggested him to work on my car. Anywho.. DH wears it all. Jeans, Khakis, Tees, Collared shirts. He wont wear shorts or sweatpants though. I guess it just depends on his mood that day. He also has a great selection of ties. I looove when he wears a tie. :\">

  • DH is and isn't my type. Personality-wise, he fits. I've always dated quieter guys that are reserved to people that don't know them, but hilarious to those close to them. He is a quiet observer and rarely says something before analyzing it from all angles first (or giving up since the rest of us had moved on by then :-)). As far as style and career path, he is so not what I thought I'd end up with. My family didn't have much money so I worked odd jobs to take care of myself when I could. I rocked my jeans and cute tshirts from the youth section of Salvation Army to prove anything could look cute. I was a tough girl emotionally and saw myself with a blue collar, fix-it-yourself kind of guy since my dad and brothers are that way. I can handle myself around cars and handguns. DH came from money and his sister bought his clothes for him from Abercrombie and Fitch. Yeah, he's that guy. Then he totally grew up, did his own thing and became a financial advisor. He loves numbers and stats. He LOVES wearing a suit to work every day and buying ties -haha. He's still a man's man and LOVES sports of all kinds, but he's no Mr. Fix-It. I fix most stuff. However, he's perfect for me - grounded, incredibly loyal, tight-lipped, and puts great value in integrity, respect, and professionalism, which I think the world has stopped teaching.
  • My DH was way outside the norm for me!!! As a younger girl I always used to go for the 'pretty' boy type, a bit kind of 'jock' style I guess!
Then at 22 I started working as cabin crew for an airline & my hubby was then the airport service manager & well what can I say.....maybe opposites do attract after all!

He's 9 years my senior & I just love everything about him!
He's my height, shaved head, stubble & stocky build.
He's a casual jeans & tee guy but cleans up well when going to work :o)

He's just my world & soulmate :o) ahhh!!! Lol!
  • Tricky question.

I only dated three guys before MH. One was a super-sensitive math nerd and poet. One was a martial artist and blacksmith. And the third was outdoorsman and environmental activist. MH is a science-nerd carpenter and also an excellent outdoorsman. I often think of him as the perfect combination of the three of them!

As far as my "type" ...... All four of them (my serious partners, past and present) are formidably intelligent, which is one of the two absolute non-negotiables for me. All four of them are stubborn and strong-willed. All four of them are very independent-minded and tend to be scornful of convention. When I started dating each of them, I believed that each was at core a kind and generous person, which wasn't actually true for all four but is my other non-negotiable.

My notable "crushes" on characters from movies/books/TV have included Fox Mulder, Sirius Black, John Watson, and Atticus Finch.

So, um, I like wicked intelligent men who make their own way in the world, scorn convention, have a variety of useful skills, are kind to strangers and loyal to their friends. And that's pretty much MH in a nutshell.

He wears Carhartt work pants, plain cotton t-shirts, button-up chamois work shirts, and wool sweaters, but he could work for the FBI and wear suits or be a doctor and wear business casual or be a small-town lawyer and look like Gregory Peck OOOOORRRR be on the run from the wizarding world and wear rags and it'd all be cool. ;-)

  • DH is a jeans and t-shirt with a flannel lumber jack twist. Intelligent and musical, and a noble bearded gentlemen (see my avatar PIP). I have a fair number of tattoos but he has none and I like it :) and he likes mine.
He's 5 years older at 31. Aaand I believe he's going to be a great father... He especially looks forward to embarrassing our children when they are teenagers.
  • My dear hubby, he's a cargo and tshirt guy. Manly, outdoorsy and can fix things himself. He's gentle, hardly gets angrtyband never says a bad word about anyone. He's so my type because of who he is, I love him more and more.
  • MH is is the army so his monkey suit is his daily attire but aside from that he wears a lot of khakis and v neck tshirts or running shorts/sweatpants which is what he was in when I met him. He also likes to dress up when he can. He isn't my usual type as far as looks go but he is damn sexy.

Personality wise he is a funny, outspoken, reformed bad boy/partier with way more of a past than me including a divorce under his belt at the age of 21. He really doesn't get along with his family because of a messed up upbringing but I know he will be an amazing dad.

I never thought I would end up with someone like him especially him being 4 years younger but I was hooked from the day I met him. He is extremely selfless always putting my needs before his and even with his issues he is the man of my dreams. I married him 5 months after we met and haven't looked back.

He's nervous about passing some of his negative qualities like ADHD to our children but I can only hope they turn out like him.

Also I think this was a great idea for a discussion! I loved reading everyone's posts.

  • I feel like this pic says it all. DH is a jeans and t-shirt/flannel shirt kinda guy. He was in the navy when we met, and though I always knew I would marry someone like him, I could not foresee 8 years ago at 18 the rollercoaster ride of a relationship we would have leading up to that point. I used to go for the pretty boys, and though Josh cleans up nice, he is far from pretty. He has a raunchy sense of humor, which I love, because I can fart, belch, and make fun of him without shame. We go back and forth all day long! He is very intelligent, sometimes too much for his own good. He is a computer geek and loves cars. His two main hobbies are video games and tuning/modifying his Pontiac g8. But what I love about him most is that he takes care of me and always makes sure I have what I need, no matter where we are. I used to get annoyed with him checking in on me all the time, but I think it's sweet now. We've grown a lot together, and though it's been a bumpy road, I can't imagine life with anyone else.

My H doesn't have facial hair either. Or chest hair. I'm hairier than him. I think that's the thing that makes him deviate for me. My "type" is more big guys with beards, the ones who can throw you over their shoulder. ;) My H is a thin guy with no hair. He was a varsity swimmer when I met him and now does triathlons, so he's a lot smaller now than he was then. He gets annoyed if he gains any weight and I love it!

DH is an accountant. He likes to go casual, jeans and a tshirt, but he also has an express and banana republic guilty pleasure. He just recently grew a thick beard....... not sure how I feel about that..... I blame it on the Red Sox and the fact that he's a huge fan.
He is very much my type. Minus the beard ;) he's the sweetest man in the world and we have so much in common. Beard or not, he's sexy to me.

    Edit: hit post too soon
  • DH appreciates a good suit and tie, but when it's the weekend, he's very casual.

This is going to sound total cheesetastic, but I feel like DH really is my soulmate.  Every guy I ever dated before squarely fell into two camps: they were my best friend, but I wasn't really attracted to them else OR they were guys I was crazy attracted to but treated me horribly. I seriously always thought that my lot in life was going to be that I'd marry someone that was very nice and smart and good to me, but I wouldn't be super attracted to them.  Then I met DH and it was just love at first sight.  He is the complete package to me!

  • My husband is not like anyone I've ever dated. Probably why we got married 11 months after we met. My type before him was always the athletic, outgoing, life of the party type.
My husband really isn't any of those. He is the reserved, think before you speak, do anything to help a friend out kind of person. He is an engineer and can fix anything. He just finished remodeling our bathroom. He always puts me first and I can't imagine a better father for our child.
While he is nothing like my dad, he does have a smart-ass mouth like him. I think that's what brought us together, we're both smart-asses. (I'm exactly like my dad).
My husband super tall, well built, and strong. He is always wearing jeans and black or gray t-shirts. He is beardy and has gauges in his ears. He's my sexy pirate.

Same! My DH works for a web hosting company and everyone there wears jeans and band T's. But since he became a supervisor 2 years ago, he's switched over from T's to polos because he wanted to look more professional. He kept his Jesus hair though lol
Oh! The hair! My H had to go with a more professional haircut about 2 years ago and I still mourn it! He is definitely the nerdy/sarcastic tshirt guy though. I have to weed them out every few years because they get too ratty.
  • I married totally outside my norm...when my parents met dh my mom told me later that she said 'c will either dump this guy in a second or marry him!' I always dated very fit, muscular, fashionable guys who were kinda lacking in the motivational department (ie hot lazy guys). They all couldn't really find their way in the world when it came to being a grown up. Dh is the total opposite. Super driven, incredibly polite, very motivated, family oriented. Physically he is not my norm either...he dresses like a total banker (ie most comfortable in a suit and will not wear 'fashionable' men's clothes), is really not into working out/fitness and is cuddly and adorable. I have to say I will trade the six pack abs for a 'good' solid reliable guy any day!!
  • DH is mostly a laid back jeans and t-shirt kind of guy most of the time. He does wear the occasional polo shirt or sweater. The best way I can describe him is he is a computer nerd. He works in IT and I joke that his job is his other wife. He's more outgoing than I am though, set in his ways, and has nerdy hobbies (for example we own two telescopes and three high end cameras). I do enjoy the photography and occasion look at the stars, but I'm more in to running and working out, which DH is not. So he's my photographer for my races.

He's not like the guys I dated previous to him, which is probably a good thing. I was always in to really outgoing guys, who caused trouble, and weren't going anywhere. When I met DH he had already been working in the real world for 5 years and owned his own house. All our friends, including myself were still in college at the time.

Sometimes I think I picked him because he is "safe"; no drama, stable, always reliable. But there's nothing wrong with that and he is one hot looking nerd (IMO).

  • MH is a cargo shorts/board shorts and whatever black tee is clean kinda guy on the weekends. During the week it is boots and jeans (carpenter). He always has a beard which he just trims.  For going out it is jeans and a polo.  The one thing is it is always flip flops outside of work (Florida).  It is a battle to have him put on real shoes, but when he does he is a snob about it (Ferragamo loafers or nothing).  The shoes thing is probably my bad influence.

He can fix or do anything with his hands.  Before we bought our shop he was a trained low voltage systems integrator with his own company (just him).

He is also one of the most intelligent and well versed people I know.  His hobbies range from photography (wildlife) to orchids to shooting.

He is also one of the most sarcastic people I know and loves a good verbal back and forth.  Some people actually think that we are arguing in every day conversation with our back and forth verbal sparring.

He is pretty much my "type" to a tee.  I like them smart, dirty and handy.  I did get a little push back from my Mom when we got serious.  She always thought I should marry the dr/lawyer/indian chief as I am well educated (Masters level).  MH never attended college.

Maybe this is why my Mom also had issues in the beginning with MH.  He is a lot like my Dad in that they were in the same trade (electrical) and they are both sarcastic.  My parents have been divorced for over 20 years.
  • MH is definitely my type. He is mostly a jeans and tshirt sort of guy, but dresses up for when he goes into the hospitals (he's a med student). I do adore him in a nice button down and tie.

Personality-wise, he is absolutely hysterical but super sweet as well. He can get pretty mushy, which I never loved in the past, but with him it doesn't bother me at all! He's not the handiest around the house, but neither was my dad so I'm pretty used to that.  He's always clean shaven, which I love! He's one of the smartest people I've ever met and the first guy to really challenge me. He'll be an amazing father as he is always taking care of me and his family members.

I feel like I should go bake him a special treat or something right now haha...

I always thought I would end up with a southern country boy, wearing jeans and cowboy boots all the time. I somehow ended up marrying a business banker from Ohio, lol. The first time he called triple A to change a tire, I thought I was going to have a melt down. But, it was his sense of humor, and the way he treats people that made me fall in love with him. When he is not working, he is defiantly a jeans a t shirt kind of guy. But, he looks damn good in his suit for work :)

  • My DH prefers shorts and T-shirts. Dresses business casual for work as a civil engineer. He isn't into watching sports but is a crazy good downhill skier and loves doing crazy hikes in the summer. Loves camping & such too, so I guess more outdoorsy than anything.

I love that he can't wait to take our LO skiing, hiking, camping, etc because I didn't grow up with any of that. He has unending patience which is amazing for the pregnancy. He takes awesome care of me when he isn't on the ski hill. He is skiing right now. Nothing like my dad except for the taking care of me part. My dad is more of the nerdy smart guy, I turned out like my dad actually

We met running a half marathon when we were 21.  I am more urban styled-  he is more preppy - think Brooks Brothers Vineyard Vines preppy.  He is really tall, 6-5, (I am 5'9) has chestnut brown hair REALLY blue eyes and killer smile.  sometimes a little scruffy around the house but always laid back.

I love him even more as a Dad, he is amazing with the girls. He is on the mend, he has a broken leg, another injuries due to his accident. He starts PT net week so hopefully he will feel better soon
