I was going to be Victoria Jo, if my mother would have had her way. My dad thought it sounded like a battleship, so I ended up with a normal name. Thanks, dad!
My mom wanted either Courtney Sue or Jacqueline Marie. Then she got her heart set on Gabrielle and my aunt went into labor and had my cousin 12 days before me and named her Gabrielle. So I got my name that is neither of the above. I kinda wish my first name was different but eh, oh well.
I am a twin and my parents were originally told they were having 2 girls. You can imagine my father's shock when the surgeon handed my brother to him! Brittany became Ryan.
I was named Ashley for 2 days. When my grandfather found out he had a tizzy because it was known exclusively as a boy's name in his generation so my parents named me after a 60's soap opera star instead B-)
My mom really wanted it to be Megan but my dad said the kids would make fun of me and call me nutmeg. Haha, I think he just liked the name he picked out better so he came up with that excuse.
My middle name was almost Reno, because I was conceived via IVF in a lab in Reno. I'm pretty glad they went with Jayne, because Kelly Reno sounds likes a stripper to me.
February Siggy Challenge - Picture of You and DH. Us with our engagement pumpkins. DH carved each word of "Will You Marry Me" and the date 10/11/12 into five dfferent pumpkins.
Almost Rachel or Emma. But I was supposed to be the last baby, and Sarah means princess... So they changed last second. My little sister got the leftover name Rachel.
I was going to be Jessica but they changed their minds at the last minute. Whenever I tell people that they always say that I totally look like a Jessica.
My dad really wanted to name me Veronica, and my mom strongly objected because of the character in the comics. The other contenders were Isabella and Irina. I ended up with the female version of the boy's name they had picked out, which incidentally is of the same type as all their other possibilities.
My grandfather was originally named Abram... His grandmother didn't like it and changed his birth record to Joseph. I thought that's overstepping things. My great grandmother apparently tried very hard to name my aunt Helene, but she ended up as Sherida, which she hates.
My mom almost named me Noelle but it rhymed with our last name. Funny enough, the nickname that I ended up going by also rhymed with our last name so jokes on her!
Nothing rhymes with my married name though, so it's all good.
Fun post! If I were a boy, my name was going to be Dustin Paul. I think Rachel was also in the running for a girls name. My name is Meghan and my mom wanted it to be spelled Meagan, but my dad liked the H version and won out, apparently. I'm okay with it
If I was a boy I would have been named Norman. I know when my mom was pregnant with my sister they didn't think of any girl names until very last minute. If she'd been a boy she also would have been Norman
@babywear - I'm a Celeste I never hear it on other women.
My mother desperately wanted to name me China. WTH? My father and Aunt put an end to that, thank god.
My dad ended up picking out Celeste, which is my mother's mother's name. She always went by Sally, though, and one day right before I came out, he found out her real name was Celeste and said, that's the name for our daughter!
I'm glad, Celeste has been passed down for a while...and to think my mom would have ended the tradition for 'China'.
My parents knew I was going to be their last so they wanted to name me after my dad. For the first few hours if my life I was Jeri. Thank God my aunt stepped in, my name was changed to a very popular name in the mid70s.
My parents were team green. If I was a boy I was supposed to be Erik, my mom liked Kelsey for a girls names and then my dads cousin had a baby a week before I was born and they named her Kelsey. So I ended up with a not so commonly used name spelled the uncommon way. From what I understand it took them a while to decide on the spelling. I can't find my name on anything.
Oh and when I was born my dad apparently said "OMG a boy!!!" Haha sorry to disappoint dad. (Which he's totally not, I'm definitely a daddy's girl)
I was almost Alison, which I actually like. I'm very happy with my name though, thanks Mom and Dad! My brother is Stephen, and would have been Stephanie if he was a girl.
Opie. Yes, Opie. My dad loves The Andy Griffith Show and wanted to name me after the boy on there. Good thing I was a girl. Somehow, my brother avoided the name Opie too. Thank goodness!
My mom wanted to name me Pamela but her mother opposed and she changed it at last minute, but to this day sometimes she and my uncle (her brother) still call me Pamela.
My name was supposed to be Heaven Leigh after a character from a VC Andrews book. My Grandfather hated it so he handed my mother a TV Guide and told her to get inspired... My name is so original. It was the most popular in 1986, the year of my birth
I was almost Anastasia after my great grandmom but ended up Jennifer which was the way too common alternative...ah well it works..I've been "JP" most of my life anyhow.
I was going to be Jessica, but then when I was born I had dark hair and my parents only knew blonde Jessicas so I got my name instead. The irony is that as a toddler I totally had blonde hair. Also, if anyone happens to call me the wrong name, it is typically Jessica that they refer to me as...weird!
My mom almost named me Summer Eve... if anyone recalls, that is a douche... Instead my name is Noelle Eve, as in Christmas Eve, which is a little bit of an improvement I suppose lol
My mom wanted Tammy; but after having twins (a surprise) and naming my brother Tommy, it was too matchy- matchy. I don't love my given name, but it's better than Tammy!
Re: Did your parents *almost* name you something else?
