@llbta85 I have mentioned this too. She is dragging her feet on any real solution which tells me this really is a genetic problem and she just talks about how her mother and cousins were crazy hoarders so she sounds like she isn't one herself. I just overheard her at a party inquiring about renting space in another friend's house for storage and I nearly fainted!

It might also be that this is the end of a big part of her family.  My grandmother's cousin's wife died last year and the house that she lived in was the house my grandmother's uncle built and she herself spent a lot of time there.   My grandmother was an only child and none of her cousins had children so she is all that is "left" other than my mom and aunt.  It was really hard for her to go through the house, even as an antique dealer, and my mom had to do a lot of it.

  • Here's one.  Lily knows the sounds my phone makes when it's taking a video, when it is calling someone, and when it is doing FaceTime.  She hams for the video and gets really excited and smiles for the phone calls and FaceTime.  She probably has a better relationship with my parents, who live 16 hours away, than with H's parents, who live 30 minutes and 4 hours away, because of FaceTime.

OOH OOH! This is a good one.. The WearThem hashtag I see all over the place annoys the hell out of me.. So me and @hockeygrl started #PutThemDown

:P Love ya... but to each their own. I'd rather wear her all day than listen to the banshee purple cry that results when she wants snuggles and I put her down!
I don't mind the CONCEPT.  But the hashtag is....excessive. I think #Babywearing will suffice, ya know?  But saying a hashtag (or anything on the internet) is excessive is an exercise in futility. :)
Oh No, I don't mind babies being worn AT ALL.. It's a wonderful thing if your kid likes to be worn.. I just don't like the #wearthem #normalizethisandthat and this and that and blahhh b/c THAT gets annoying.  Wear your kid girl!! WEAR HER PROUDLY!

    SURPRISE! BFP: 12/2014 - EDD: 8/13/15

  • I work not because I choose to. I don't think anyone can do a better job raising my LO than I can/do. If given the choice between my current work situation and SAH, I wouldn't even have to bat an eye to make my choice. Yes, I get bored easily. Yes, I like to be intellectually stimulated. I'd still choose SAH to at this point in our lives. Eta I judge NOBODY who chooses to work. If I had a decent schedule/could work PT I'd probably feel differently. I just had a meltdown last night only seeing him for 1 hr.
Right there with you.  I came home and Ezra was a hot mess -- I had to put him directly to bed.  Then he wouldn't actually sleep so he fussed through the quickest dinner I've ever eaten.  Zero quality time;  20 minutes of awake time.  Sucks.  I'm so looking forward to this three day weekend.

    ETA:  @violet1183, YGPM.
All of this! I maybe get an hour of quality time with LO each night, sometimes slightly more if I manage to get out of work on time instead of staying to grade papers, etc. I would give it up in a heartbeat for him, but don't expect anyone else to feel as I do.

My FFFC: After this week's constipation issues, I'm considering abandoning BLW and just doing store-bought purees.  This working mama doesn't have time to make purees on my own, despite my best intentions while pregnant!  "I'll never give store bought food...I'll make my own!"
It's super easy. I swear. I work 40+ hours a week and travel for about a week every month and I can still do it.  I usually go to the store on a day off and look for the stuff that is already cut up(saves time) then go home and throw it in the processor. After I blend it I put 3 days worth in a ziploc bag so when we take it out of the freezer there is 3 days worth. Let it thaw and distribute it into containers(sometimes need to add milk or blend a little more).  We do a mix of BLW and home made purees. He usually gets oatmeal in the morning, puree at daycare or in the afternoon if we're home and then solids for dinner. Solids I keep simple like apples, cucumbers, bell peppers, bananas, cheerios, home made teething cookies.  Things I can slice and hand him quickly instead of cooking. You can do it mama!
Definitely agree with what she said regarding the purees. Also, if you want to do store bought for some, but fresh for others, there are certain purees that are so easy to do yourself like bananas and avocado.  This tool is very helpful for bananas and avocado, or a fork works well too:

We have an understanding that the money my husband makes is our money. I've decided to clean a couple houses, to get Ella and me out of the house and extra money never hurt... My first thought was what I was going to spend MY money on... I'm so selfish.
Going along with this, my husband and I lived together for a while before we got married.  We handled the bills by splitting them pretty evenly and each paying the bills we had agreed upon.  After we got married, we probably should have opened a joint account, but we haven't yet.  And even if we do, I would want it to be just for bills and not for play money.  We both need an account with some money where we can spend it as we like without having to ask the other if it's okay. For so many years I lived on my own, being able to spend my money, as I pleased that I don't want to have to get his okay to spend money on lunch with a friend or a new purse. I also don't want him to feel like he can't buy something new without getting the okay from me. This may be selfish on both our parts, but I don't care.

Obviously, we ask each other about major purchases, but we would probably spend that money from savings.
@BC&LM -- We have a joint account for household expenses and separate accounts for our discretionaries.  For us, that includes clothes, haircuts, eating out (when the other person isn't present -- if we're eating out together, it's a joint expense, but if I'm getting coffee with a friend, it's my personal expense), and gifts.
That sounds like exactly what I want to do.
  • @phishgirl29 I've had the same thoughts. My mom won't throw out ANYTHING. (The worst is food. She has food in the fridge that expired in 2006. Not kidding.)

It's really morbid, but yes, I've thought about the cleaning that will be done when my parents pass, and the work that would need to be done on their house before it would be sold. Then I get upset, then I feel awful about it.
I am terrified of the day my mom/stepdad's house needs to be cleaned out. As the sibling who will likely be dealing with all of it... (one lives far away and never has time, one couldn't care less about family and the other is pretty close to a hoarder in their own right)... yikes... The house contains all their stuff.... plus the stuff they've saved for each of us.... plus 3 households of deceased parents, as well as my moms tag sale finds.... sigh...

  • I think everyone should travel outside of the US or Canada before they are in their early 20's. I have no idea how this would happen since people can't afford food, but traveling is can be such a great experience.
I feel like living abroad made me a better US citizen and gave me some much needed perspective on what not to take for granted in terms of lifestyle or rights. I would wholehearted support what Germany does in making a year of service abroad mandatory before college- be that in the military or peace corps type thing. You have to do it young before you realize you are broke and are used to having no money! At least that was my theory!
I really hope DD takes a year off prior to college to travel/ work/ volunteer abroad. I so wish I had!
I can agree with this. My deployment opened my eyes SO much. Our nation is the only one with an all volunteer force which has its advantages and disadvantages.

  • This isn't really a fffc but I mobile bump and it's been so slow lately that somehow I flag tons of replies. I always locate which ones they are and Love them so it doesn't
I think the TOAT is ridiculous.

I will stop following a blog/FB page the minute it becomes all about Insanity/Crossfit/Whatever

I LOL'd at the irony of "who is better, working moms or SAHMS" thread because...that was a lot of posting from people who stay at home with their kids. I mean, the ONLY reason I can BARELY keep up with TB is b/c I'm at work at a desk. I'm not sayin'...but I'm just sayin'.
I'm a stay at home mom and have been for the past 3 years since I had my son. I think that I had wayyyy more "free time" when I worked and I think I would be much more up to date with the bump if I did work. I don't think that sahm just sit around eating bon bons which I feel like you are implying.
Eh... I don't think she's saying SAHMs eat bonbons all day... but I only bump from work... partially because I hate mobile bumping, partially because I lose time commuting etc that would probably be my free time if I SAH. Difference- not fuel kwim?

  • Also... the original Flowers in the Attic movie was TERRIBLE. I'd like to see My Sweet Audrina made into a movie... that'd be interesting. But also... Not sure it'd be morally wise to make it either.

What was incorrect is when she said that most of those who stood up against mrswilson's offensive comment were SAHMs. I didn't see that at all. I thought we all banded together on that one. Her comment strongly implies that SAHMs have more time to kill on TB. Which for me might be true because a) I only have one child, and b) she takes her naps on me so what the hell else am I supposed to do. Anyway, I would venture to guess that moms home with multiple kids and working moms with high stress jobs have less time on their hands than say me with my one child and moms with less stressful jobs. Regardless, time management as a mother has nothing to do with whether or not you work or stay home.
When I was home with just one kiddo on maternity leave or my "off" days I had SO much down time. He was a good sleeper and we had a small apartment. Now with two kids and a big house I can barely check my text messages, let alone bump. My office work days are my bump days :) It is definitely case specific when if comes to who has more time to bump. I totally missed all the drama yesterday since we had a nap fail.

@34blondie ITA. I read all of those books. I'm so glad my mom had NO IDEA what they were about. I would probably still be grounded!
FFFC:  I've never even heard of this book--which blows my mind since I come from a big family of readers (almost all the women in my family are English teachers).  I just bought the kindle edition and I think I'm going to put off the novel I'm currently reading for a bit to get through this one.  The reviews on Goodreads were great!

Didn't say that. Here's a copy/paste: "...that was a lot of posting from people who stay at home with their kids."

Don't put words in my mouf.  I just meant that I found it kind of funny. I don't have time to do much internetting at ALL when I'm at home, but maybe that's just me.

  • Im excited for the new Teen Mom this week, I think Im addicted to trash TV.

I love all those strange TLC shows, but not the wedding ones.

We just got a TV last year so I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do.
I have the new teen mom already set up to record!

I have a silly FFFC... I can't even tell you the amount of times that I've typed "ATbumpname" when calling out someone one the bump! Lol then I catch myself and change it to @bumpname. Whoops!

    I find that I do it the most in the middle of the night when I'm half asleep and nursing J. So far I think that I've corrected it before posting it. 8-}

I do it too! Sometimes during the day...haha

  • I have a stupid "read all the words" obsession.  If I start a book and don't like it I can't stop I have to read all the words or if I go to a museum i have to read all the words.  On here I have to read all the words ... although the TOAT has been too much at times so I am slowly starting to get over my 'read all the words' obsession here on TB.

    I'm a loser!

I have an insane amount of V.C. Andrews' books. Flowers in the Attic is my favorite and I'm stupidly excited about watching the new version of the movie. The 1987 version sucked hard.

I read way too much V.C. Andrews in junior high and high school, those books are so twisted!

Huh? --- I always worry I don't talk enough for language development. I'm a bit of an introvert and sometimes I realize I haven't said a word in ages when I'm hanging out with the kid. Then I listen to a podcast that says kids that do well in school hear over a thousand words an hour and I get a severe case of the mommy guilts.

Quote failing... but anyway... I believe she was saying the US armed forces are volunteer based- there is no required service in this country like there is in places like Israel (all citizens enlist at 18, per law).

That's how I read it as well, but the US is far from the only volunteer military service so I thought I misinterpreted.

Are there others? I was unaware of any.
