  • We have an understanding that the money my husband makes is our money. I've decided to clean a couple houses, to get Ella and me out of the house and extra money never hurt... My first thought was what I was going to spend MY money on... I'm so selfish.
Going along with this, my husband and I lived together for a while before we got married.  We handled the bills by splitting them pretty evenly and each paying the bills we had agreed upon.  After we got married, we probably should have opened a joint account, but we haven't yet.  And even if we do, I would want it to be just for bills and not for play money.  We both need an account with some money where we can spend it as we like without having to ask the other if it's okay. For so many years I lived on my own, being able to spend my money, as I pleased that I don't want to have to get his okay to spend money on lunch with a friend or a new purse. I also don't want him to feel like he can't buy something new without getting the okay from me. This may be selfish on both our parts, but I don't care.

Obviously, we ask each other about major purchases, but we would probably spend that money from savings.

I enjoy being a SAHM, but at least 3 times a day I look at LO and think, "what the hell am I supposed to do with you now?"
I felt that way sometimes on maternity leave. I tried to combat it by getting out of the house with LO.  I was just thinking the other day, though, that I can't imagine how we would spend our days now because it's so cold out that a bunch of the places we used to go wouldn't be feasible most days because of the cold.

We recently decided to sleep train my son. Him crying for 3-4 nights was the best damn parenting decision I've made since deciding to let him sleep in his crib at 5 days old. CIO may not be for everyone but it worked for us and now I'm getting full nights of sleep.

  • I'm going OOT for work next week. MIL is coming up to help with CJ because DH has drill next weekend while I'm gone. I'm hoping she can transition him back into the crib because he only wants to sleep in bed when I'm home. So if he has no awesome mommy snuggles then surely he will stay in his crib all night right? And I don't have the will power/motivation to sleep train him.

  • Sometimes I wish my DH would just lie to me. He knows I'm worried about safety and he knows I have panic attacks about her getting hurt. I rationally know that I am going nuts with the saftey but i just want things done like mounting or strapping down our tv/tv stand and bookshelf. I bought straps but I can't move the tv on my own. I've been asking him to do this for over 2 months now and it's still not done. When I bring it up we fight. His first instinct is to get defensive. All I want him to do is say that he understands my concerns and make a plan to get stuff done.
  • So I mentioned in the TOAT that I think my mom is in the beginning stages of hoarding with her "over decorating". Well, I can't help but think about what to do with all her "stuff" when she passes away. She's not sick or anything but the clutter is driving me crazy and I justifying my thoughts as a way with dealing with staying here while visiting.

I told my sister about my thoughts and she said she's been having them too.  I feel so bad :(

  • If I had the strength to hide his dead body, I would've killed DH last night.

After I spent the whole day in the bathroom being sick, he has the audacity to bring people over last night.  Then get all pissy with me for not having the house clean...

are you fucking kidding me???   Everyones alive, I'm happy we survived the day.

I'm not love titing that he did that but the first line gave me a great chuckle. I hope you made him clean.

  • @phishgirl29 we have the same problem with my MIL. My inlaws have a condo with a storage unit FULL of stuff, her mom (MIL's mom) passed away and there is one whole house full of stuff too and there is actually a set of deceased cousins- spinster sister hoarders (no joke, one died and the other sister didn't notify anyone for 5 months with her in the house. Seriously ill hoarder situation) have both passed away leaving an entire house of stuff (amazing vintage treasure trove). Although my MIL is taking care of her condo, mother's house and the deceased cousin's house now, it is only a matter of time before all of this "stuff"- and the real estate- becomes DH and my problem since he is an only child and only grandchild. MIL keeps saying she is trying to get rid of stuff and wants to sell and donate stuff from the 2 extra houses but then she puts off me trying to help get stuff out and has a weekly "gifting" to us of items she has cleaned up and decided she wants us to keep. The problem is we now have so much stuff from her from over the years that our attic is full and I am at the point where I don't really know what is truly an important family piece and what needs to be put curbside. Not to mention I know that half the stuff is antiques that are worth a lot.
Even writing all this gives me a stress headache. I mentioned taking pictures this weekend of some of the antique furniture and cataloging to my MIL this morning and she totally hesitated and I wanted to shake her and tell her "this is happening." Fortunately DH is going to intervene as he listened to me when I brought this up and agreed this is going to be a problem down the line. And he finally agreed to sell his he-man and hotwheel collection, so there are two rubbermaids out of the attic!

  • @calikat80, a lot of antique dealers and auctioneers will sift through this stuff for you.  My grandmother (at the age of 90, she's incredible) is a dealer and will often buy contents of houses or go through and point out the good stuff etc for relatives.
  • I know @calikat80. It's not a dirty house, but there is stuff EVERYWHERE! When we were kids, she used to collect vintage barbies with us, but I think that she did it for herself. She has f-ing barbies (and hummels, precious moments figurines, to name a few) all over the house and a whole room is dedicated to each original box that they came in. There are display cases in every room for her "treasures" not to mention vintage china, throw pillows, collectible plates, and wall art throughout the house. Don't get me started on the Rubbermaids...

I think I just realized why I'm such a minimalist.

My FFFC: After this week's constipation issues, I'm considering abandoning BLW and just doing store-bought purees.  This working mama doesn't have time to make purees on my own, despite my best intentions while pregnant!  "I'll never give store bought food...I'll make my own!"
I said the same thing... I do make my own purees from time to time, but honestly, the Sprout Organic purees are SO DAMN TASTY. I would eat them myself (God's honest truth). And they are totally organic with no extra additives AT ALL. ANNNNNNNNNND... There are coupons for them on coupons.com :-)

  • @BC&LM We still split bills.  I have a general idea of how much certain bills are, but I don't pay them and don't have a good idea.

Also, I plan on taking Lilly to daycare on Monday even though I'm off work. I feel good about taking her to daycare. Our DCP is so much more knowledgeable to me and Lilly has a blast.

BOTH our kids are going and I have been dancing a happy jig about it all week!

OOH OOH! This is a good one.. The WearThem hashtag I see all over the place annoys the hell out of me.. So me and @hockeygrl started #PutThemDown

Yeah CarryThem and WearThem is stupid.  So is NormalizeBreastfeeding and even NormalizeFormulaFeeding.  Just to be an a-hole one day I wanted to hashtag "NormalizeFEEDING"

It's just fuel for the mommywars.  But I did LMAO the first time I saw your #PutThemDown

:P Love ya... but to each their own. I'd rather wear her all day than listen to the banshee purple cry that results when she wants snuggles and I put her down!

I don't mind the CONCEPT.  But the hashtag is....excessive. I think #Babywearing will suffice, ya know?  But saying a hashtag (or anything on the internet) is excessive is an exercise in futility. :)

@Junemom2013 I sometimes wish the opposite.  H lies to me to ease my anxiety.  It's little stuff usually, but makes me wonder how easy it would be to lie to me about a big thing.  It's usually things like a spider near me, but not telling me and just squashing it.

  • @llbta85 I have mentioned this too. She is dragging her feet on any real solution which tells me this really is a genetic problem and she just talks about how her mother and cousins were crazy hoarders so she sounds like she isn't one herself. I just overheard her at a party inquiring about renting space in another friend's house for storage and I nearly fainted!

  • @VASC I was all about making my own food, then I looked at the price of fruit. I am not going to spend more money so that I then need to make the food myself. I still do homemade veggies, but buy fruit purees (or give her fruit to self feed).
