GTKY: My First Car

*inspired by @kimberlymacrae in UO thread

My first car was a 1981 Datsun D210. It was brown. It had a working 8-track player. I started driving on my own when I was 16 in 1993.

When did you start driving and what was your first car? Pic gets extra points!

Pic is not mine but is similar to my first car. image

I can't remember what year I started driving and I am horrible at math so... probably 2002? I drove an '86 Buick LeSabre. It was my grandpa's and in cherry condition. So much room!

I started driving in 2001, I was 17. I bought my car that next summer, 2002. I drove a 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup crew cab. I loved it! My friends and I would have picnics in the bed.

Eta: I'm an idiot and forgot the year.

  • In 06 I think? 91 Subaru loyale. Picture is not my car just what I found on the internet. Had to give it to my sister because I rolled and totaled her truck. So I bought a $300 VW Jetta put a battery in it and that thing lasted me until I married DH :)

  • Mine was a 1993 Saturn SL2.  My parents still have it and refuse to let it go!  It got slammed into twice, both of which it just barely missed being totaled.

I turned 16 in 2003. My dad bought me a 98 silver Saturn sc2 with a sunroof! It had been stolen at some point before we had it, and my dad got it super cheap. I loved it :)

  • I started driving in 1995 and drove a Nissan sentra. Can't remember what year it was. Had to give it to my sister when I went to college in 1997.
  • I started driving in 2002 and bought a 1992 Ford Escort. It had a lot of miles on it, it only lasted 3 years for me.

  • I started driving in 2005, I was 17. My mom bought my first car, a 95 red Nissan 200sx. I wrecked it in 07, I think. But I loved that car!
  • I started driving in 2002 @ 16. I drove a Ford Focus hatchback off the show room floor. My husband drove it after me to save on gas when we first got married and I bought my first SUV in 2010.
  • Got my first car in 2000-2001?? Old school mercury grand marquis. It was awesome with blue plush seats!! It would stall every other left turn. (Net pix)
  • I started driving and got my first car in 2001 when I was 16.  I guess I was kind of spoiled because my parents bought me a new car.  It was a Toyota Echo and I loved that car.

I had it for 12 years and just traded it in three days before E was born!  It was a great little car but I wanted something safer and more reliable with a baby.  I was sad to see her go.

Here's the last pic I took driving out of the dealership with my new car... *tear*

  • My first baby, Shaft, was purchased by me for 3,000 bucks cash in 2000 when I was 16. She was a lovely 1989 Honda civic. I loved her then I love her still. I consider saving up my money for her a big accomplishment!
  • My first car was an 84 honda accord that my parents bought for me in 97. I learned how to drive stick on it and needed a new clutch after 1 month. I have never had an automatic since then.

  • My first car that I'm still driving now is a 1997 Mazda protege and yes it still plays cassettes! I love it though! :)

  • I started driving in 2006. I drove a late 90s model Mustang. My dad does body work on cars so he got one that needed work, and fixed it up for me. This is not my car, but mine looked like this.

  • I got my license the day I turned 16, 2002. I had already bought my own car for $500, it was a 1980 Malibu that I planned on fixing up with my dad. Well, it was in a little (a LOT) worse shape than I thought and it was literally crawling with mice. First time we started it up a whole mouse nest flew out of the tail pipe and about a dozen mice scattered all over the garage. And it had no steering wheel so we had to use 2 vice grips.
Needless to say, my dad made me sell it to someone for a demo derby car and he helped me out big time. He let me basically have his full size Chevy Blazer and that thing was sweet. It had a lift kit and huge tires and fit all my friends. My 5'1" self felt pretty bad ass jumping in and out of that beast.

It was my senior year, so 2000-2001 and I drove a 1991 white Ford Ranger similiar to this one:

    image

It was a hand-me-down from my dad and it was awful. The windshield leaked and the interior was destroye because my dad used it to drive back and forth 150 miles round trip to his construction job. Oh and it was a stick shift!  BUT, it was free and I could pull my small 2-horse trailer with it to the fairgrounds for horse shows.

  • Mine was a 1986 Dodge 600 convertible. Mine was silver with this awful maroon interior and a black top. There was a hole in the drivers side floor and it didn't even have a tape deck.  If I hit a bump too hard the radio would go out and wipe out all my pre-set stations.  It was a piece of crap, but I loved that it was a convertible.  My sister started letting me drive when I was 15 and I got my license when I was 16 so in 1993.

  • Mine was a 1992 Toyota Carolla that was an awful shade of blue. My dad does work on cars so he found one for a really great deal and kept it running. When I sold it, it had 300,000 miles on it and he still services it for the lady that bought it.. so it's STILL alive. I can't imagine how many miles are on it now!!!

  • I got my license in 1998 when I was 16, but didn't get my first car until I was 21. My first car was a 1997 Mazda Protege.  I loved that car so much.  I only got rid of it because my aunt sold me her Camry for $1,000.  It was in fantastic shape with 1/2 the miles, so I couldn't pass it up.

  • I started driving in 96, and came home to a brand new mustang in my driveway. Turns out, it was for my mother.

I got her 88 Ford Taurus, which I nick named the cli Taurus, as classy as that sounds. That car broke down every weekend, like clockwork.

Haha, one of my high school friends drove a Taurus that we used to call the Cli-Taurus, too.  I guess we had the same immature high school sense of humor. ;)

  • I started driving in 2000. I had a silver 2000 Mazda 626. It had a sunroof and I would always climb up through it at baseball games at sit on it. My dad had no idea why there were dents on top.

  • I got my permit at 16 (1998) and my license on my 17th b-day (Jersey laws..lol)..,My first car was a 1982 Toyota Celica....it was a hand-me-down from my grandpa....it was this ugly sh*t brown....it broke down after a few months and my parents bought me a 1996 Eagle Talon for my 17th bday in 1999. It was like going from a hoopty to a Cadillac!! Lol

  • Am I only one so far with a classic car? I got my license in 1998. My first car was a 1963 Ford Mercury Comet. It had the coolest rocket lights ever. Same color as this one from google. It sadly blew up on the freeway the month before I went to college and my mom donated it.
  • My first car was a blue 2000 ford focus. I was supposed to get my dads 1979 F150 Ranger with a big block 460 but a month before I turned 16 the transmission blew and it wasn't worth fixing for me. The focus was my sister's and she gave it to me. I drove the shit out of that car. It was wrecked (three dents) and made noises like a diesel but awesome on gas and still looked new inside. I just got rid of her last year to buy my first car. An F-150 4 door. I still have the motor of the old truck and DH and I want to build an 80's Bronco mud truck with it.
