Slight Drop in HCG?

My HCG level was 303 on Tuesday, and 242 today.  The nurse that called me with the results said it could be a couple of things and that I should remain positive until they draw the levels again on Saturday. (One of those things, of course, is miscarriage...the other she didn't mention.)  Of course, Dr. Google had nothing positive to share.  Has this happened to anyone? I'm not sure what could be positive about a drop in hcg.

Re: Slight Drop in HCG?

  • you could have started out with 2 embryos and one failed to continue to grow but it should have at least gone up some. i'm sorry your going through this but I can't sugar coat it that drops are usually not a good sign of a viable pregnancy. T+Ps for you.

  • I am in the same exact spot. Just had second blood test today and levels decreased. You're right about Google being the opposite of helpful. Nurse responded the same to me, said not to worry because it's still early. I just started week 5 today and needed help with clomid to get pregnant. Good luck to you and I will stay positive for both of us.
  • Did you use a different lab?

  • Nootbar, no I didn't use another lab...same one.

Kdgold14: I will think positive thoughts for you as well--I don't know how to NOT worry, though.  I worry about everything all the time, even when it's not really my problem.  I used clomid and ovidrel, too.  Please let me know how things turn out for you!!
  • I'm not scheduled to draw again until Monday. I had a bit of a crazy thought though. I used the clear blue digital test that says how many weeks you are. And so if my levels are up it should say that I am 3-4 weeks this time. Although I worry that not seeing that result will drive me more crazy. Rock and hard place. I'm focusing on the fact that everything else is normal, I seem to be sore in all the right places and not bleeding so that has to be a positive. When looking at others with decreased levels a lot of them were having bleeding as well. I also don't know what my levels are, they never told me and i didn't think to ask I was just told that they are slightly down.
  • I know what my levels are, but I'm not bleeding or cramping either.  I know that the facts state that declining numbers are not good news, but I'm hoping for the best.  I suppose that I can't change anything, so the best I can do is hope for the best and not have to go through all the clomid and ovidrel and everything else again!
  • Unless there was a mistake in the lab, you need to start preparing yourself for a negative outcome. I'm sorry.

  • Ladies, I'm happy to update that my HCG jumped to 1394 yesterday! My husband is convinced that there was a lab error.  I don't know, but I'm slightly relieved.

The doctor now is concerned because there was such a huge jump, so i have to go back tomorrow for more bloodwork and an ultrasound.  Hopefully, all is good!
  • That is great to hear!! Good luck tomorrow. Mine third blood work will be tomorrow. I'll have to ask what my numbers have been although I'm not sure what good it will do for my mind.
  • That's great news! Congrats!
