Mirena and BFing

So there have been a lot of posts about effects of hormones in BCP on nursing, but what about a hormonal IUD like Mirena? Any issues there?

Obviously I'll speak with my doctor at 6 week checkup but want to go in as informed as possible. I'm thinking IUD will be best for us and thinking I won't be a great candidate for Paraguard since I already have long, heavy, painful periods but I'm nervous about hormones in Mirena.

My doc really likes the Mirena and said it's a great option for BFing moms

It's just a local hormone to the uterus and ovaries, minimal if any hormone gets into the bloodstream, so it's good for bf'ing.

Totally not trying to sound snarky, but want to help! You may try searching for Mirena using the search function. There have been quite a few threads about this in the last couple of days with some great responses, so you may not get a ton here, but those are a great resources with others personal experiences. @ranfan28 thanks! I need to make a point to get on my laptop to search - doesn't work on my phone.

@mtb21 we used condoms after DS but may be done just don't want to make a permanent decision for a few years but want something more reliable than condoms

My OB said it wouldn't impact supply so I'm going with it again in a couple weeks after the insurance approval is processed
