May 2014 Moms

I knew it was coming... Bedrest.

Blaaaaaaaaaaargh.

So I just to back from my OB appointment. My MFM is basically ignoring my short cervix measurement in favor of predicting doom on the preterm labour front. My OB, on the other hand, thinks the MFM has the PTL thing covered and so she's focusing on my cervix. And she doesn't like what she sees. So the restricted activity my MFM put me on has turned into full bed rest. Indefinitely.

On the plus side, she gave me 40% odds of making it to April if my ute and cervix behave. May really isn't a goal any more though.

Cue: sad Dragon. I'd been hoping to avoid bed rest for another few weeks at least :(

No, but its not expected to- it'll be sludgy until delivery if I understand correctly. The excellent news on that front is that I haven't had a fever since before I got pregnant, so the chance of there being a trapped infection went way down. It's always a risk that I might develop one later on, but for now we are doing awesome.

That at least is good news! I'm sorry about the bedrest, though. Hopefully your little one stays nice and cozy in there for the long haul!

Nothing new since my MFM appointment last week (actually all my vitals were awesome today) but the OB had been hoping to see a significant improvement in my cervix length after the cerclage and instead I only gained 2mm (up to 13mm when ideal is 40 and good enough is 25). Which was good enough for the MFM, but not the OB.

So the OB got the updated chart in this morning with last weeks measurement and went ahead and pulled the trigger on bed rest. Not surprising, especially after seeing another may mama with a similar cervical measurement being put on bedrest earlier this week.. But I had still hoped it could wait a few more weeks.

  • Sorry :( need some words with friends games?
I don't know if you've said this, but do you work? How is that going to work out? I'm terrified of bed rest. Last time I had hospitalized bed rest starting at 32 weeks and of course I hadn't signed up for short term disability and I was so worried about how it would affect my pay and cut into my FMLA leave.

I've been a stay at home wife for a couple of years so this won't be a financial hardship for us. We also knew going in to this pregnancy that there could be significant time spent on bed rest or in the hospital and so prepared ourselves for the possibility. My pregnancies have never been easy.

That stinks. Take care of yourself!!! I'm getting weekly cervical checks, but so far only have been told to work 1/2 days and take it easy. At least you know you're doing everything in your control to keep your baby safe.
  • Bed rest for 3 months (hopefully) sucks! Sorry to hear that! So... What's the plan for keeping yourself entertained?
