Why do all solids recommendations conflict???

I swear, every single thing I read about introducing solids seem to conflict with each other. At Emmett's 6 month appointment, his pedi basically gave me the go-ahead for all solids with the exception of things like honey. However, when I look up solids information, some websites say that meats should not be introduced until 9 months. Others say 7 months. Some handouts say no dairy until 8 months, some say closer to a year. Some sources recomment egg yolk only at first while others say it is fine to give whites now. Why does everything have to be so confusin? I'm not sure if I should listen to the pedi and introduce everything now or wait like other sources say to. What are you ladies doing?

  • Pretty much everything but honey and milk.

We have done meat (chicken and turkey), yogurt, fruits and veggies, beans and lentils, grains, puffs!

will try egg soon, just haven't gotten around to it.

  • I think it's because the changes are recent, and because there have been conflicting small studies.

Our pedi is a professor of pediatric medicine and stays really current on research. She is of the 'anything but honey' camp, as long as there's no family allergy history and it's in a form that doesn't pose a choking hazard.

Only thing we're holding off on is milk and honey.

    But we're rebels like that.

Disclaimer: We have no known food allergies in our family.

  • We were told everything is fine, except honey, if there is no history of allergies.

  • I used to stress about it and only do a certain food one at a time but now Im letting him eat more and more of what we eat.  I have not done milk, pb, honey, or eggs.  I have given him yogurt and cottage cheese..I heard as long as its made with whole milk its fine just dont give them the fat free stuff.
  • Our ped said no whole milk, honey, egg whites, or fish. I haven't given chocolate only because I was sensitive to it as a child.
  • We are waiting on honey, eggs, milk, and peanut butter.  We also don't have any allergies, but Annabelle had a reaction to sweet potato a couple of months ago.  We will reintroduce it again and see what happens.
  • No honey and milk for us till one. I don't sweat about other food. Although I didn't give DS anything sweet (peanut butter, chocolate), except sweet potato. I don't want him to develop sweet tooth so early.

Everything but honey, nuts and milk. Although I do give milk when I make rice pudding just not as a drink. Even then I mainly make it out of coconut milk.

  • My pedi days if the baby isn't eating a cereal then to start giving meats for the iron. He also said to skip stage 1 meats because they are nasty.

  • I'm uber paranoid, so I'm holding off on the usual (milk, honey) plus peanut butter, most berries (except blueberries), eggs (because I'm afraid I can't full seperate the white). Also I agree with your pedi @AllieAGame, we tried a turkey, sweet potato and grains stage 2 and it was nasty. I only gave it to LO one day and she hated it, so I just tossed the other 3 that I had.
