Pregnant after a Loss

Stomach sleeping vs. movement

Mornin' ladies!

I've got a question about sleeping on your stomach.  I've asked before about sleeping on my stomach around 13 weeks.  The advice I was given is that it's not harmful and your body will let you know if it is.

For the most part, I feel comfortable on my stomach but occasionaly I have to throw my knee up to shift my weight to the side a little.  But I've noticed that the baby moves a lot when I sleep like this.  Do you think it's possible that I'm making the baby uncomfortable?

Re: Stomach sleeping vs. movement

  • I don't sleep on my stomach anymore.  But I do notice when I am not completely on my side and am on my stomach a little... baby kicks the crap out of me!  I take it that she is not comfortable... so I turn completely on my side.  I do think it's possible to be making the baby uncomfortable.

  • I think the baby is fine, you are just pushing your stomach in so you can feel the movement more.  This is the "trick" I used to first feel the baby move.  I tried laying on my stomach the other day and it took some creative pillow placement, so I have a feeling your stomach sleeping days are limited.

  • And as I was typing this I heard two CWs who are further along saying they like to sleep on their stomachs but they can tell the baby doesn't like it b/c their babies kicks like crazy.  Ooops!

So - I wonder how uncomfortable it makes a baby and in what way?  Does it flip the baby over on his/her side?  Hmmm.

I feel a little bad now b/c I've doing this for a while.

  • I still sleep on my stomach sometimes with my leg propped up... I try to sleep on my side but I always wake up on my stomach.

** FYI - Peggy, I'm super jealous that you're feeling movement now... I'm still waiting for it Sad **

  • I don't think it would mave the baby, it just compacts the room in there.  The baby is moving around anyways but with the less space you can feel it better.

On a side note, whenever I turn over, I just picture the baby arms and legs splayed out trying to brace herself from spinning.  I'm sure it doesn't really happen but it makes me laugh in the middle of the night.

I think it's mostly b/c I'm super skinny b/c I've lost so much weight.  I guess that's the only postive aspect of how sick I was.
