DS is 10 months but I am trying to feed him more and more table food. He is still nursing 4-5 times a day though so really only eats solids at breakfast and dinner. He is 25+ pounds though so quite healthy. When I have fed him lunch he is not really interested. Anyhow, I am confused how much table food I should actually be feeding him.
How many meals a day is your DC taking and how much? For example, for breakfast do they take one small pancake and half a banana, a full banana, etc? What about lunch and dinner, like a half cup of veggies, still on purees, half a grilled cheese? I am so confused about this stuff, I just don't really know how much I should be making for him!
Re: Table foods for 1 year old? How much and what?
breakfast - waffle/toast/pancake + yogurt/applesauce/banana
lunch - varies - 1 cup of pasta/rice/leftovers (or 4 chicken nuggets/strips) + 1/2 cup diced fruit (sometimes add in string cheese or a dinner roll)
dinner - whatever we are having, probably about 1 cup worth of food + crackers or dinner roll
snacks - cheerios, crackers, string cheese, goldfish = however much he will eat
DS will stop when he is full. He usually will start smearing his food around on his tray to signify he is done. I usually keep feeding him until he is full.
for us its different every day but the general idea is:
Breakfast: (at 9:30)
-- 1/2 a pancake and 2-3 pieces of peaches or fruit cut up
OR
-- 3-4 oz of oat cereal w/ prune juice mixed in and a small handful of cheerio's
Lunch: (at 12:30)
-- 1 chicken tender (not nuggets, that would be 2), 2-3 pieces of veggies cut up in smaller bites
OR
-- 2-3 oz of veggies cut up, 1/2 piece of whole wheat bread
Snack: (at 4:30)
-- 2-3 crackers (puffs, teething squares, gram crackers)
Dinner: (at 6:30/7)
-- 2oz of a veggie (like peas) for finger foods, 2oz of pasta and possibly some fruit
OR
-- 1 oz of some kind of meat, some veggies and a bit of whatever else we're eating.
Here's a general idea of what DS eats (he's also 10th percentile weight at just barely 20lbs, so we're trying to get him up there a bit)
Breakfast: 1 packet oatmeal prepared with 1/2 cup milk (maybe 3 ounces? total once made) plus either half a banana or 4 ounces of yogurt mixed with fruit (2 ounces) Sometimes we do waffle/toast/french toast/ 1 scrambled egg instead of oatmeal, and he eats all of it.
Lunch (at home) 1 whole grilled cheese with tuna, handful of steamed veggies, 2-3 strawberries or peach slices. Recently I've used sliced turkey with shredded cheese melted rolled up to make a turkey pinwheel.
Snack: 1 graham cracker broken into pieces, smaller serving of yogurt, one turkey pinwheel, etc. fruit is usually in there, too.
Dinner: 1 fish filet (3-4 ounces) as much veggies as I can get him to eat (maybe 6-8 bites) or pasta/chicken/ etc. and then a few pieces of fruit for "dessert"
Measuring exactly is what I miss about purees. I know exactly how much he was getting with purees. I'm still using the take and toss bowls, so I can guesstimate.
Breakfast consists of either Cheerios, cut up fruit (pear, apple, etc.), and maybe some yogurt; a waffle, cut up fruit and maybe some yogurt; or some toast with cream cheese and some cut up fruit.
Lunch consists of either cheese toast and some veggies (peas, green beans, or carrots), a quesadilla (with cheese and and a veggie like broccoli) and some veggies, a garden burger and some veggies, etc. I'll give her some yogurt too, if she hasn't had it for breakfast.
Dinner consists of a meat (chicken, ground beef or ground turkey), a veggie (usually carrots, peas or green beans) and a starch like pasta.
I haven't done any snacks yet, though will probably start soon. Maybe some Cheerios, Puffs, fruit, or yogurt.
