Is your S12 toddler using silverware?

DD will play with her fork and spoon set, but hasn't used them to bring food to her mouth yet. Does your S12 toddler actually use silverware for food yet?

He's getting pretty good with a fork, I still help him with spoons.

He'll use it for about 5 bites and then toss it and eat with his hands the rest of the way.

DS will use silverware for a bite or two then throws it aside and then eats with his hands for the rest of the meal.

haha, guess my kid is behind again. If I put food on a fork she'll eat it, but she can't spear it herself.

i voted SS because its not consistent...sometimes he uses the silverware and actually feeds himself, some days its...lets throw it on the flow and shovel food in with my hand

This is my kid too... she'll wave hers around, she'll eat off of mine, but she doesn't use hers to interact with food. I figure we're not too far behind since the silverware packaging says 18m+ though.

@kdsmith43 How do you help?

I just help guide his hand through the motions. He tends to turn the spoon sideways as he moves it towards his mouth - so I help guide him. After he takes a bite, I tell him good job. With a fork he doesn't really "get it" that he has to stab the food - he more or so smashes the food and what comes through the fork and stays - he eats.

This...DD uses the spoon better than fork but she'll eat a few bites with it. Most the time it's in one hand while she feeds herself with the other

She gets the concept of the spoon but isn't great at actually scooping. If I spear the food with the fork she will take it from me and put it in her mouth but hasn't been able to really spear the food yet. She tries and is getting better, but still almost always eats with her hands.

I always give her a utensil. She uses it about 50% of the time. When she does use it, she is pretty good with it.

I really don't care how she gets the food in her mouth quite honestly, I am just happy I don't have to battle her to eat like I do my son.

Yes! She's had it every day since her birthday and uses both fork and spoon really, really well. It's funny when she's trying to eat something like rice though. Usually with that she gives up in frustration and will use her hands. The kid just H A T E S getting dirty.

I voted yes, but it's at about an 85% success rate. He usually insists on a fork or spoon, but sometimes doesn't have the best of luck. Like, say, with peas. He does try very hard though. Sometimes it ends in frustration and hands, but most of the time he's pretty good.

We don't do a knife obviously.

My kid is odd. He has to use a fork or a spoon for everything that would be in his bowl. He hates getting his hands dirty with food. So he is pretty competent with both. Sometimes he needs help spearing things but not often. He also hates the baby forks and spoons. He needs the real thing.

I marked yes but it's hit or miss. He'll try for a bit then give up, put it in his right hand and use his left to eat. I've noticed a significant improvement lately though.

E is pretty good with a spoon. If he's starving, he'll shovel it in with his hands. But for things like soup and yogurt, he typically spoons it in successfully. He's been practicing since 6m.

Fork is okay. He can do it and likes doing it, but doesn't always remember to use the fork, even if it's in his hand.

We are with chimi, she doesn't start her meal without her silverware. She will still occasionally use her hands but mostly the fork/spoon.

Also she hasn't allowed us to feed her since she was ~10 months.
