Dry Cough :(

I am 15 weeks and a few days and I have had this dry cough for about 2 months... nothing has worked; humidifier, cough medicine, tea with honey, cough drops.... I am heading to see my midwife tomorrow to finally get it checked out. Just wondering if any of you had this and found relief in a more natural way than using medications?

Thanks!

  • I will be sure to post what my midwife says tomorrow after the appt, may help! I hope you feel better!!
  • She ended up saying I was allergic to dander, had nothing to do with pregnancy at all thankfully and our little one is healthy and happy inside benig unaffected by my coughing :)

My allergies are on a whirl wind as well. Benadryl has been an everyday staple in my life and when I dont take it, I definitely get a really bad flare up. Hope you start feeling better soon!!
  • Have it too. Fiance' is pushing me to go to the doctors. I figure there isn't anything that can be done until its a productive cough.

  • Glad you found out what it was!
  • I've had one for 5 weeks! It's been pretty unproductive/dry. I'm actually sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office right now...I woke up a couple of days ago with some gurgling in my chest so that's when I decided it was time for an intervention. I hope we all feel better soon! Winter sucks.

  • I know they say tea with honey....but you need to try taking about three tbs of organic honey with a tsp of lemon juice. Mix it up really good and take a tsp of it every so often. The straight honey will coat your throat and the lemon juice will help destroy allergens. It will probably give you some relief until you can find out for sure what's wrong.
  • Thank you for the honey idea! Do you know if we have to make sure they honey is pasteurized first and do they even make that?

I hope everyone feels better soon too!! I am taking claritin now as my doctor told me to which doesn't seem to help so I am going to try the honey and hope it works! Fingers crossed!! :)
  • I'm not sure about pasteurization. If you can find a local beekeeper...they would be the ones to ask. If you buy organic honey at a health food store...it should already be pasteurized.
  • I woke up with dry nose and throat on Christmas eve. I've just rested a lot and trying to drink more fluids. Also using ricola cough drops. I bought a vaporizer but not sure if it's working. There is something going around at work so I'm also drinking lots of OJ.

I have heard go for pasteurized honey. Although local raw honey is the best for helping with allergies. Ask your doctor, you never know. Even if you have to get pasteurized at least it will soothe your throat. I just starte with a head cold and have been doing honey and tea and it helps a little bit.

Feel better!! Winter really does suck

  • I have this too. I didn't think it was a cold because I couldn't remember being exposed to anything out of the ordinary, and I don't have allergies. This is going on my third week with it. I tried the tbsp of honey followed by a tbsp of lemon juice and it helped with the coughing overnight. I'm going to ask the doctor at my appt tomorrow and I'll try to remember to let you all know!
  • I hate to say it, but go to the doctor! I didn't want to, because I'm trying to be as natural as possible. I've had a lingering (sometimes wet/dry) cough since late Nov. Last night, I had a coughing spell, heard a pop near my right lower lung, and was hit with horrible pain. DH took me me to ER care, where I had to get morphine to breath again. I bawled as they injected me, but the pain was so bad I couldn't breath.

The dr was nice, but chided me for not going to the doctor weeks ago. I'm 2 pills into a z-pack, and my coughing is already reduced. OB confirmed that it's safe, but I'm still bummed about taking meds.

Tea with lemon juice and honey helped, as did hot showers, but nothing cleared it out the way this med has.

  • I finally had to go to the ER for coughing up blood. Midwife thought it was just allergies so she gave me some claritin. ER doctor told me I was having Bronchospasams and Bronchitis and I am now on Z-pack, Tylenol and an Inhaler. Feeling so much better after 3 days of the Zpack! Thanks for all your help! Glad you are feeling better as well ^ ! I am only taking the Zpack and the others as I really need since I don't really want to be all medicated and do that to the baby, we are trying to be as natural as possible :)

We have a neighbor who makes her own delicious honey and we have a quart jar of it. But my dr said since it's not paturized I can't have it. :(
