tell me about amoxicillin allergy

What can you tell me about amoxicillin allegies - specifically, what do they look like in little ones?

DD has been taking amoxicillin since Friday for a minor ear infection.  Last night I noticed that she had a little red raised dot on her chest.  It looked like a bug bite or an itty bitty hive.  It went away by bedtime.  Just now I noticed similar little raised dots - one on her hip and one on her thigh.

She seems to feel fine and doesn't seem at all bothered the dots.

What do you learned ladies think? Allergy?

I'm tempted to wait until tomorrow to call the doctor.  Would you?

thanks!

Re: tell me about amoxicillin allergy

  • Doesn't sound like an allergy to me.  But call you ped in the morning to see what they say.

  • We also just got done with Amoxycillin for an ear infection on Monday.  Everything ok so far.  What you described doesnt sound like an allergy.  My older is allergic to Amoxycillin and he broke out about 10 days after the meds with a rash from head to toe.
  • Could be an allergy. Pedi said it can take up to 2 weeks to show, but I don't think it has to. DS looked like he had little bug bites, then they spread. He wasn't itchy or bothered, but we did stop the meds and it went away.
  • thanks.  and thanks for that amazing link. where ever did you find it?! ;)
  • It could be an allergy. My parents found out I was allergic when I was about 4. And yes I do still remember. I woke up in the middle of the night with hives. I would call your pedi just in case. I can't take anything with cillin in the name.
  • This is a late reply, and I don't know if it'll help anyway, but I am allergic to amoxicillin (all penicillins). I had serum sickness (allergic reaction) when I was 18. Mine reaction started with an itchy scalp and within a few hours I had a swollen bump on my ankle. This quickly became swollen and very painful joints all over my body and miserable hives. I spent 2 days in the hospital and the reaction lasted for several weeks. ?
