So. Exhausted.

So, I know we are all tired from baby making and whatnot, but I am slightly concerned about the sheer amount of exhaustion I have begun to feel this week. I am back to first trimester exhaustion. As in, my body feels heavy and lethargic and it's hard to keep my eyes open. Is anybody else feeling like they are back in their first trimester with a few extra pounds this time?

I am going to mention it to my doctor on Friday, but thought I would get a little input from you ladies. How exhausted is too exhausted?

Re: So. Exhausted.

  • Yes the exhaustion came back last week. I find it very hard to stay awake at my desk at work and by the time I get home from work and make dinner I am ready for bed.

  • Definitely exhausted. I think my exhaustion is also due to insomnia and I think my thyroid levels are off. I'm asking my OB to check the levels tomorrow.

  • It's also worth getting checked for anemia again, if you haven't, because that can contribute, too. (Not that a lot of it isn't just pregnancy, but I did feel marginally better when I started taking an iron supplement.)

This is good advice. I personally plan to ask for a repeat of my bloodwork this week because I've been falling asleep any time I sit or lay down for a moment and am just so wiped again. I know I'm anemic but I'm worried it's bad again.

  • Me. Holy balls. I woke up this morning, ate, had some coffee, and went back to sleep until 10:45. And I'm still exhausted. I'm just taking advantage of silence and freedom to sleep.

The welcome to the jungle GIF makes my body hurt. Who can move like that?!
Pretty sure Axl can't anymore, it was 25 years ago, so probably nobody.

  • YES!  But for me its more of a muscles/ body tired rather than sleepy tired.   I did feel better a few weeks back when I started taking iron, but now its back.

  • Yes, I am very tired.  I go to bed as early as my grandparents and wake up as late as possible, but I'm still exhausted.  Anemia runs in my family, and I have had bouts of it in the past.  I think I'll ask to be checked at my OB appointment tomorrow.
  • I felt that way with DD. I have a bit more energy this time around. Sorry lady! just try to rest as much as you can. Listen to your body!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • Glad it's not just me! I've been wondering if it's because I sleep so poorly at night? Or maybe the little alien is sucking the life out of me again? I just had my iron levels checked, and they have actually gone up, thankfully. M friends just tell me the annoying 'sleep while you can'

  • I could have written this post. I can sleep 10 hours at night and then wake up, do some things around the house and then settle in for a 2 hour nap.
I am slightly anemic, but have been since mid-2nd tri. The exhaustion hasn't been around that long.
    It's getting ridiculous.
  • I've been like this lately.  I can't sleep enough (no matter how much I sleep) and I literally can barely function for daily tasks.  I am anemic, and that has a little to do with it.  I'm on supplements, but they seem to not be working lately.  Have your doc check your iron levels at your next appointment if you can

Yup, me too... I was feeling good for quite awhile but since I hit 36w, I've been exhausted constantly. I've had my bloodwork done a number of times -- I've never been anemic but have been super iron deficient throughout the pregnancy. While taking a ridiculous daily dose of iron over the past few months has not had any effect on my energy, my levels have doubled (but are still 2/3 of the lower end of "normal"). I'm chalking it up to inconsistent sleep, physiological load, and a disconnect between my brain's ambition with my body's needs. I am hoping for the supposed burst of nesting energy in the near future, but so far, nada...

  • Mine is getting increasingly so in the evening. But once I hit 5pm I'm done. But when I'm tired, I'm tired. Not just the it's the end of the day fatigue, but the I'm going to bed tired.
  • Me too, and I am not anemic. I have actually been sleeping better at night (snoogle and I broke up and I'm back to just two pillows) and I could nap several times a day! I had so much more energy last go round. Have been feeling old but also enjoying the naps! It seems that when I do anything at all I get cramps/BH or feel like I've been hit by a bus (or spent two hours at the gym). Good times all around. :P
  • I feel ya! I am so exhausted. Lately I have gotten home and crawled straight into bed. H has been awesome and taken care of dinner every night. Honestly, I'm so tired I don't care if I eat. I only have 2 days of work left and I'm dreading them... seems like 2 too many.

I go to bed around 8, but I wake up every hour or two to pee. Then I wake up when H gets up for work at 5. Then I usually fall back asleep until 8 or so. I cannot wait til next week where I have nothing to do except a doc appointment. I plan to nap everyday!
  • I'm definitely going to mention it to my doctor still, but it's very nice to know that maybe what I am feeling is very common. I have known to be anemic in the past, so I will have him check.

I am also SO tired of hearing the "sleep while you can" thing. Actually, I have a feeling I will sleep better after my son is born-- I will probably be up the same amount of times at night to feed, rather than pee, but I will be able to actually rest when I do lay down because my hips won't hurt and I won't have heartburn and it won't take me 13 minutes to flip from one side of my body to the other!
