Laundry list of questions from an incognito nestie!

Hello ladies! I am a regular nestie undercover (although my cover will probably be blown soon because I suck at keeping log ins and passwords straight). Anyway, I just got a BFP last week and am 5-6 weeks along and I already have a ton of questions!

Question 1: I'm starting to get suspicious of my BFP because I've had virtually no symptoms. No m/s (knock on wood, this was a big fear of mine), no nothing. Just some very, very slight cramping and feeling beat after a not-very-strenous workout.  Is it completely weird and bad that I really don't *feel* pregnant yet? I'm pretty much just looking for assurance here!

Question 2: My first dr's appt. is next Monday. They'll be doing a blood test and a sonogram. Will I regret it if DH doesn't come? I know there won't be much to see on the sono, but still it seems kinda big. He is already taking time off that week for other things, so if he doesn't need to be there he's thinking he'll skip it. I have not idea what to expect, so I'm not sure if we'll regret him not being there. Thoughts?

Question 3: How do I coyly order a non-alcoholic drink at a work happy hour tonight?? The damn thing was my idea last week (pre-BFP). I'm a drinker, so not ordering wine or a cocktail might cause suspicion. Got any good excuses I can give?

Thanks : ) I know this was a super long post, sorry! I might repost on the nest if it looks like there's no one around here today.

  • 1. I never had a day or m/s.  I was exhausted all the time.  You're fine.

    2. DH went with me to every appointment.  I didn't think it was really necessary, but he thought it was important.  The first sonogram is pretty amazing.  I would have him go.

    3. Go to the bar, order a sprite or ginger ale with grenadine and a lime, ask for it in a tumbler instead of a soda glass.  Totally non-alc and looks like a cocktail.

    And... Congrats and Welcome!!!

It's early for symptoms.  Take another test if you're nervous!

My DH was there.  I think he would have regretted missing it if he hadn't been there.  We heard the baby's heartbeat and we both cried.

cranberry juice with soda and a lime?  go to the bar or kind of whisper to the waitress.  Most people don't pay that much attention.  You can say I'm not feeling well/driving if anyone asks.

  • Can't wait to find out who you are!

    1. I didn't have any symptoms until about 8 weeks when I started to notice nausea. It will time some time to feel pregnant. Even when I started feeling sick I didnt feel pregnant. Now that I'm showing and can feel her move, I finally feel pregnant.

     2. Dh went to the big u/s with me. He went to the first with me when I was about 9 weeks so we could the heartbeat. If you're still early you may not be able to see much next week, but definitely have him come with you. Also, i you do the NT scan, have him come to that too.

    3. Good luck- I was not good at hiding the no drinking thing, so I ended up spiling to my friends at a wedding when I was about 11 weeks along.

    Congrats!

  • Congratulations!  Can't wait until you reveal your true identity.

    1)  Don't worry.  If you got a BFP, you are pregnant.  You may not develop any symptoms until later on in the 1st trimester.  Everyone is different.

    2)  The first sonogram where you get to see the baby's heartbeat is pretty awesome and I wouldn't want my DH to miss it.

    3)  Order a club soda with lime from the bar.  It will look like a vodka tonic or gin and tonic.

  • 1. I had no morning sickness until around 8 or 9 weeks and then it hit with vengence. So don't read anything into not having morning sickness early.

    2. If you are having a sonogram, I'd had DH come to the appointment, there is something really wonderful about seeing that little heart beating.

    3. Wait until no one is watching you and order a sprite or a glass of cranberry juice, and sip that at the bar.  Those are the sort of things that look like they could have some alchohol without actually having any.

  • 1.  I didn't get symptoms until morning sickness kicked in at 7 weeks.  Exercising was a little more taxing too.  I didn't even really feel exhausted during the 1st trimester like I was supposed to.

    2.  DH went to my first appointment and to the big US.  It was helpful for him to be at the first appointment because they did a family history questionaire--I didn't know his information.

    3.  Go to the bar and ask the bartender to make you a non-alcoholic drink that looks alcoholic.  I'm sure that he/she gets asked to do that all of the time.

  • 1.  I didn't have any morning sickness, except for 2 days where I got sick after I ate something.  My only real symptom was that I had to pee all the time.  We were on a 7 hr. car ride the day we found out I was pg. and when I usually only stop maybe 2 times to pee I made DH stop about 5.

    2.  Have DH go to your 1st appt.  Seeing the baby for the 1st time is amazing.  Plus if your DH has any questions, that is the time to ask the dr.

    3.  Maybe you could say you've been sick and your taking a prescription and you can't drink while on it.

  • While I had morning sickness plenty of my friends didn't  You will feel tired, that seems to be universal.  You don't start showing for quite a few more weeks, although you may have a week or two towards the end of your first trimester where you are a little bloated and nothing fits.  That seems to go away before you really need pregnancy pants.  The thing you will notice is that you back size increases and you will need new bras or extenders.  A lot of people go up a cup size or two in the first trimester as well.

My first sonogram was 6 weeks and I regret not having DH there.  It was the most amazing miracle to see the baby on the screen the first time.  More so than any sonogram that followed, it awoke in me a deep understanding of life and what I was undergoing.  I had another sonogram at 8 weeks that he did see, but I was sad we didn't share that first experience together.

Agree with PP, there are lots of festive mocktails that you can ask to be put in cocktail glasses that will fool everyone.  I've rediscovered a love for Shirley Temples I'd forgotten about.  You're biggest problem will be if someone offers to get you a drink, if that's th case, I would just say you alternating drinks after a long weekend of holiday parties and ask for water.

    Congrats and good luck!

  • Question 1: I'm starting to get suspicious of my BFP because I've had virtually no symptoms.

Don't worry - the M/S will come.  LOL.  :)  At 5-6 weeks, your boobs might feel funny, and you might be a little tired... but, that's about it.

Question 2: My first dr's appt. is next Monday. They'll be doing a blood test and a sonogram. Will I regret it if DH doesn't come?

My DH didn't come to the first sono.  He kinda wished he did, but, if your DH can't come then it's probably no biggie.  All you'll see on the first sono is maybe a little flicker for the heartbeat - but, you might not even see that at 5-6 weeks.

Question 3: How do I coyly order a non-alcoholic drink at a work happy hour tonight??

If you can go up to the bar to order, get a Sprite with a lime - in a "real" drink glass.  It looks like gin & tonic!  Or, if you do more "girly" drinks, have the bartender make you a mixture of fruit juices.  Or, if you're going to the type of bar where everyone stands around drinking their beer... get a beer, pretend to take a few sips, then go to the ladies room, dump it out and fill it with water.

Can't wait to see who you are!

  • thank you all! DH is officially coming to my appointment and I love crazydc's idea about ordering beer and dumping it. just in case, i just  hinted to my coworkers that i'm taking cold medicine and might not want to mix with alcohol ; )

  • Question1: I never had m/s and generally felt great throughout my pg.  There moments of being tired, but the only early on symptom was that I was pretty bloated.  Thankfully I was a little overweight to start with so it didn't show to anyone who wasn't around to see me trying to button my pants.

Question 2: DH went with me to the first several appts.  He was with me for my first sono which was my NT scan.  I didn't have an appt with my regular OB until closer to the end of my first trimester and it was helpful to have him there to go over family medical history that I didn't know on his side.

Question 3: I'm not a big drinker to start with so I say all the other pp ideas sound good.

    By the way...congrats and a very H&H 9 months!

  • 1- I didn't have any symptoms that early either, except for cramping.  And some people never get morning sickness.

2- I don't know if "you" will regret it.  I had my DH go w/me to the 1st sonogram and am super glad I did b/c we got to see the heartbeat.  SO awesome!  Also, they found something worrisome and I'm glad I had him w/me for support.  (Everything turned out totally fine in the end, whew!)

3- Try to get there early or order by yourself.  I used to get cranberry and 7-up or just a diet coke and pretend there was alcohol in there.

  • 1 - too early for symptoms

2 - he should really try to come

3 - try to order early by yourself, or say you are on antibiotics

    congratulations!

  • 1.  I had the same fear until my first appointment...I had neither MS nor any other symptoms except for sore boobs and slight weight gain my first trimester

    2.  Yes, he should go.  The first ultrasound is special plus your doctor or an NP will most likely sit down with you both and quickly run through some of what you can expect during your pregnancy

    3.  Get there early and order first

  • 1 - I never had any symptoms in the 1st trimester (wasn't tired, wasn't sick) except a bit of insomnia which obviously no one would know about.  Every body is different, so don't worry about it

2 - DH came to the first u/s (at 9 weeks) and was awed by it - if you were just getting bloodwork done, I'd say don't bother, but the first u/s is really cool

3 - unless you usually order a beer or something straight, just try to get the bartender to make whatever you usually make sans alcohol and do it with people otherwise engaged :)
