A friend of mine recently had a baby, and I'm planning on going to visit them in the next few weeks. I'm taking a gift for her new son, but I want to take something for her older boy as well. He's 3. Those of you with kids around that age, what do you suggest? I don't want to take a toy that will be obnoxious for the parents to deal with, but I want to take something he'll like and that might keep him busy. Or just something thoughtful. Ideas??
My son loved puzzles when he was 3.Not the wooden “put this piece here” puzzles,
but the cardboard 20-40 piece puzzles depending on which end of 3 he’s on.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Books are a big hit with my 2.5 year old. Cars as well, nothing makes him happier than a little matchbox car. It's really nice of you to think of the older sibling, I'm sure anything will be very appreciated.
My husband's co-worker sent a little toy truck for DS1 along with all of the gifts for the baby that his other co-workers sent. Nothing fancy (no bigger than my iphone) but he loved it and carried it around for days.
When my friends had a new baby I brought a coloring book (one of those magic ones where the marker is clear since I didn't know how they felt about markers) and stickers for their 3 year old. She loved it!

My 3 year old nephew loves to help his mommy clean so I got him a kid size broom for Christmas. He loved it.
