Sleeping on the floor?

My son just recently figured out how to crawl out of his crib. We took the front bar off his crib so it's a day bed now (it's a transition bed). The only problem is, he ends up sleeping on the floor instead of his bed. DH or I will go to check on him and find him curled up on his rug covered with a blanket. We always tuck him back into his bed, but I don't know if we should get an attachable toddler rail or no? What say you?

Re: Sleeping on the floor?

  • I don't think the rail will help. A bigger bed probably will help (that's what it took for DD1), but if you're not ready to do that, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • It is a phase. DD slept on the floor by her toddler bed for nearly a year before she was ready to move up to her bed. We tried moving her back at first but then decided to let her be. She grew out of it.

  • My son did this many times too...he would lay on floor and pass out. He outgrew it after half a year or so after initially buying his toddler bed.
  • DD slept on the floor for almost a year. She still sometimes ends up there. We just moved her back to her bed after she fell asleep. There are too many other battles when it comes to parenting, and we decided this one just wasnt worth it! I think it's fairly common.. I don't think the rail is going to make a bit of difference.
