I am at 36 weeks, 4 days, and was just diagnosed with vasa previa today after an ultrasound, which was done because of my low lying placenta (which for the most part moved up, but there is a vessel close to my cervix). I have a c-section planned for Thursday of this week, as a result. Do most people with this condition deliver earlier than 37 weeks? also, for anyone who has dealt with an early term planned c-section, what are the questions I should be asking my doctor? My first child was a vaginal induction at 39 weeks (due to high blood pressure) that went beautifully. This is my first time dealing with an earlier delivery on top of a c-section.
Re: Vasa Previa - anyone?
Also, it will need to be by c section, I believe there are risks of damage to the cord and therefore to the baby if you actually go into labor.
Knowing, though, is more than half the battle. Sometimes this isn't diagnosed and then it can be dangerous but since they know about it going in, you will probably be totally fine. It sounds like your doctors are great!
Babies born after 36 weeks generally do extremely well and usually don't require any NICU time. Some do needs a little help getting breathing started.
