Formula feeding mommies...

Hey ladies!

I've been really MIA lately due to work, school, and four kids ( one that is colicky). I miss all of you and hopefully I can get on more once I get my schedule situated.

Now my issue...My munchkin is currently on Enfamil Senstitive and is screaming almost every feeding and spitting up. He was on Similac advanced at the hospital but they switched him to similac sensitive because his stools were too runny. That hurt his tummy so I switched him to Enfamil sensitive thinking maybe a brand change will help, it didn't.

So my question, what formula are you using and do you like it?

  • I'm probably not helpful here bc we are using similac advanced. I think gerber also makes a sensitive formula.

  • You might want to try Gerber Soothe and if you are still having issues try Similac Alimentum. The proteins are partially hydrolyzed which makes it easier to digest.

I was actually thinking of trying the Gerber brand but wanted to see if anyone was actually using the Gerber brand formula.

  • My LO had a lot of problems with every Enfamil formula we tried. We switched her to Gerber Gentle and she is doing great on it.
  • DS had severe reflux and pedi GI doc recommended Gerbet Good Start Protect Plus which is now Gerber Soothe Protect I think now.

  • Gerber Soothe is what we use. We used the simlilac in the hospital but at 3 weeks she was not able to digest it well. The Gerber seems to be working well and she is less fussy.

My LO takes the Enfamil Newborn with no problems. Sorry you're LO is having trouble, I hope you find a formula that works. Maybe try the Enfamil Nutramiden.

  • We are using isomil.
  • Our LO was on similac neosure while in the NICU and we came home on it. She started screaming, spitting up, and really straining to poop within a week of coming home. After we tried every possible thing except changing her formula, the pedi decided to change her formula to either similac alimentum or enfamil nutramigen. She has done a complete 180 already!!! I swear by both of these formulas!
  • I'm using the Kirkland brand from Costco. LO likes it.

  • My LO was super fussy for hours every night when she was on Similac (first on Advanced and then Sensitive). We switched to Gerber Good Start Soothe a few days ago and she is a much happier baby now. I think the Similac just gave her bad gas pains.

  • We started on enfamil newborn, but then LO started spitting up badly, moved to gentlease...but he just did not like it. (Wouldn't finish the bottle even though he was hungry). Finally we moved to the similac sensitive and that has made a great difference, as well as switching bottles. You might try looking into other bottles as well alas switching formulas.

  • We are using gerber good start as well.
  • Started with Similac Advanced. Went to Similac Sensitive. Went to Similac Soy. Once I realized the soy was the trick, switched to the Target Up and Up brand soy. That shit is less than half the price of Similac and is always on Target Cartwheel. Life.saver.

  • We have been using Enfamil newborn the last month.  I think it makes LO constipated and a little gassy.  We are almost done with this canister, then we will be using the store brand equivalent of Enfamil Gentlease.  LO seemed to do better on the gentle formula that the non-gentle formula.

@RT0516 I bought the soothe but it wouldn't dissolve in water there where clumps all in it, I'm guessing you didn't have that problem?

  • We use Similac for Supplementation. We started off with that one and there isn't really a reason to change, so we'll probably continue with that one, even though I'm not BFing much anymore. He doesn't seem to like the Sensitive version, which we did try. I might try the Advanced soon.
  • We started with Gerber and had good luck. Last week we switched to the Up and Up version of Similac Advanced because it is so much cheaper and he's still doing well.

  • CitrusXoXo sometimes we haev to shake the bottles after the first ounce. It also depends on the bottle. We use dr. browns and avent. Avent dissolve better in then the dr. browns. It is funny when DH makes bottles he pretends to be a bartender when shaking them up.

I use dr browns too and shaking didn't help :(

  • We were using the Up and Up version of Enfamil Gentlease but it was really upsetting her tummy. We switched to Gerber Soothe on Sunday. So far it seems to be helping. I actually think it dissolves better than what I was using before.
  • When we switched to formula with DD1 we used Gerber Good Start. We really liked it.

  • My little guy is on enfamil enfacare. However, our ped gave us some Gerber gentle ease to try and that seemed to really help with his gas and discomfort. Once he actually makes it onto a growth chart, we'll probably switch to that for good.
