In Fahrenheit. I'm curious what temp others keep their house at- Ours is usually 73-75 degrees. I hate being cold. We turn it down at night though.

  • 58 when away or sleeping. 62 at other times.

  • If it were up to me it would be 65 year round!! I love cooler temps.
  • Really it depends on the season.  We usually do about 69-70 in the winter (and turn it down a few degrees at night because it is warmer upstairs) and around 72-74 in the summer.
  • It depends--California is so mild, we usually don't even set the heat or air. I'm high-maintenance about being hot, though, so in the hottest months I'll set it as low as 66-67. In cooler weather, I'll happily just cuddle up with a sweatshirt and blanket.

  • Somewhere between 68 and 74. We have terribly old windows and the cold air comes right in.

  • I didn't think to include summer temps. CP fail on my part. In the summer we usually keep it at 69 or 70.
  • 62 while we're away, 64-65 when we're home.

  • In the winter, we keep the house at 68 if one of us are home and awake. At night, we keep it at 65, but we might go lower. When we're not home, we keep it at 62. I'm tempted most times to keep the house at 70-72, but our oil bill is too damn high for that. During the summer, the house is kept at 75.
  • I just had to use the google conversion to figure out fahrenheit.

Right now we have the thermostat set to 24C which is 75F. With the horrible cold weather we've had it up to 79F. In the summer we keep it cooler at around 68. And I also like to keep it cooler (around 68 or slightly higher) when I have a beer fermenting.

One of the benefits of condo life is our heating and AC is included in our condo fees.

  • @brettanomyces That's America for you- still stuck on Fahrenheit ;)
  • 69 in winter.

At night, we turn it totally off.  We have sorta small cozy bedrooms, and DH's body tends to run on fire..  if we have heat on, I would sweat.  Not only do we turn the heat off overnight, but we open the bedroom window and use the fan (I need sound).  And the bedroom is small, so it doesn't actually get cold.

We have it on a timer so the heat goes back on at 5am.

  • We keep it at 62 during the day, 58-60 at night. During the summer we keep it probably 78? A little too warm for me, but to get it much cooler would mean the a/c just runs constantly and I don't like paying for that.

We used to have a game/running joke where we would see how cold it would get before someone would turn on the heat. I woke up to 47* once. Game over.

  • @janda426 Yeah but Canada is weird. In a restaurant we order pints of beer but half-litres of wine. We drive kilometers but describe ourselves as weighing Xlbs and being X'Y" tall. We buy ingredients in ml and kg and then measure cups and teaspoons for recipes.

  • During the winter, we keep it around 60. I loveeee being cold and under a blanket.
I have been known to wake up and cut off the heat completely on cool nights and wake up to temps around 50.

During the summer, I suffer through keeping the air set around 72 because if not, our power bill would be astronomical. I run two box fans and the ceiling fan during the summer too.

In the summer I have it at 72ish.

  • If it is cold enough to have the heat on, we keep the thermostat at about 68. In the heat of the summer, we set it to 74 or 75 in the house, but have a window unit in the bedroom so it will be cooler at night.

  • Depends on the season. Summer AC is on 77 downstairs and 75 upstairs. Winter heat is on 67 while we are home and 65 while away. With that being said we are in GA and last Tuesday our high was 32 and this weekend we were in the low 70's so we are constantly adjusting temps during the winter months.

  • This thread has me wondering if we keep our house too warm. I told DH the average temps seem to be in the 60's here on the board, but he thinks it would be too cold.
We are at 68/69 and I've never been cold in the house.
Anything in the 70's would roast me.

No honestly. My mom lives in an apartment where she can't control the heat. I think it hovers around 74. I made her open a window and was chugging water to keep my skin from cracking off. TOO HOT!

Um...58...56 at night, 58 if we're at work, sometimes up to 61 if we're chilly. I HATE being hot. Dh just has to deal....(he's the one that puts it up to 61...Before him I left it around 57 ALL THE TIME) ...I was surprised low 60's wasn't even a CHOICE! most people I know keep it between 60-65. Maybe that's new england, and that is positively balmy? I couldn't stand a house above 70 in the winter! i know when we have an infant we'll have to keep the heat up (another reason we wanted a spring/summer baby...) but for now I will enjoy my ice cave :)

ETA: Oh, I forgot about summer. We're cheap, so 75-78, but.....I sleep with on fan on my face and another over head haha...and sometimes I sneak it down to 72 before DH gets home

  • @linnae939 eek! I'd be FREEZING... The people I babysit for have their house at 63 and I thought I was being tortured.

I just feel like when the house is too cold, I want to stay in bed all day under the blankets and I'm absolutely miserable if I have to get up and do something, forget doing chores willingly. I guess it stems from when we were younger, we were broke and our furnace would always shut off in the middle of the night so it would be like 50 degrees in the house when we had to be up for school and I missed so many days cause I just didn't want to leave my blanket. It's a luxury I take advantage of now being grown up haha

  • We live in MA, and our house has ceiling fans. We also have two thermostats (one upstairs, one downstairs) and we have a Nest for both of them.  I <3 my Nest, it automatically detects when you're away, you can control the temps by an app, and it has smart scheduling so you can tell it that you want the temp to be 68 when you wake up and it will start the heat at the proper time depending on the temp of the house.

During the winter, we set it for 68 when we're there and awake, 66 upstairs and 62 downstairs when we're sleeping, and 62 when we're away.

During the summer, we often are able to just use the ceiling fans and be comfortable, especially at night.  When we put on the AC, we set it to 72 during the day, 70 upstairs and 74 downstairs at night.

Maybe it is a New England thing?  I keep my heat super low and not because I'm trying to save money - just because that is the way I grew up.....and I enjoy it.  BTW - there is no way I'm showing my DH this thread or he will want to up the heat LOL
