not feeling much movement

Hi Momma's
I'm 18.5 weeks and I haven't been feeling much movement from my little one.  I have been feeling it move since about 13 weeks.  Some days are more than others but over the last few days I have only felt a few little bumps or kicks.  Do you think this is normal or should I be worrying?  Thanks

Re: not feeling much movement

  • They're only awake for like 6 hours a day right now so I wouldn't worry

  • I feel like 13w is pretty early to start feeling movement, so lucky you!  I've only started to feel movement more consistently now, and I'm nearly 20 weeks - just wait a few more and you should be fine.

  • Definitely to early to worry, there's been a few posts about this recently, it might make you feel better to check out the comments ppl have left there as well.  But the general consensus seems to be: Feeling the babies movement is pretty sporadic at this point, don't stress :)

  • Thanks everyone, you made me feel better.  I know my placenta placement may also be playing into it.  At my last appointment my dr told me that my placenta was anterior and posterior.  So, I suppose the little one could be hiding behind it.  With my DS I had an anterior placenta and I know it limited the movement some.
I didn't know they are only awake 6 hrs a day.. that's good to know.
  • Sing it if you know it - you don't have to worry about this yet.

And same question as PP - I didn't think your placenta could be both?

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • on the placenta question, I just got back from my A/S and my placenta is "fundal" meaning it is at the top of my uterus, wrapping towards both the front(top) and the back(top). maybe that is what your doc meant by it being posterior and anterior?

  • I couldn't feel anything at 13w and by 16.5-17w I started to feel what could have been questionable movements. I'm almost 20w (19w 5d) and I feel him move all the time. It went from questionable to definate movements in what seemed like overnight. Your time is coming :)
  • That could be the name for it, my dr didn't tell me.  I do believe she meant that it was wrapped around front and back though.  She seemed concerned a bit, but not a lot and said she will be keeping an eye on it.  She was hoping that it would move itself to one or the other.
  • I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow and have yet to feel movement. I think with DD #1 I felt it at 22 wks? So..I wouldn't worry just yet!
  • i felt it a week or two before my husband could feel it from the outside. For me, it almost felt like when your stomach/digestive system rumbles. Then I felt an occasional thump. Some people describe a fluttering feeling..i never had that.

That's kind of how if feels for me, not really flutters but more of a bubble or even a muscle twitch. Although I'm still not convinced it's baby and not gas!

  • Feels like muscle twitches to me.  I've been feeling it since Christmas pretty consistently.  Especially when I sit or lay still after a bunch of movement.  10-15 mins after eating a bunch of sugar also seems to get activity....
  • I am 17 w 4 days have not felt anything.

  • I have an anterior and I feel her once in a blue moon. They said I probably won't feel her a lot until 22-24 weeks.
