  • I see your point in wanting to be as natural about your pregnancy as possible, which is fine & there is nothing wrong with that. My doctor recommended I do the same & get the shot (I have had the flu before, several times actually.) I had no side effects, and little bear seems to be growing healthy and strong so far. I agree it is a good idea to protect yourself from as much as possible seeing as how your immune system is weaker now than ever before.

  • I would get the shot.  Our local news just did a report on the flu and one hospital alone has already had 9 people die from the flu.  They were otherwise healthy people ranging from their mid 20's to their mid 60's and no they didn't get the flu shot.

  • QFP from the complaint on TPR. You're welcome, OP.
Okay, since I'm now pregnant I did not want to rub it in and post pregnancy questions on this page....so I went to the first trimester to ask about the flu shot....here's the post:

My doc is highly recommending me getting the flu shot but I am vehemently against it.  First, I've never had the flu so I don't see why I would inject myself with the virus for a 50% of it working and, second, We tried getting pregnant after two years and a lot of medications and I'd like this pregnancy to be as natural and drug free as possible.  I'm highly against using any medications even when I am sick (I believe there are natural ways to solve most issues) but my doctor has put me on drug after drug for the first 10 weeks.  I'm currently 11 weeks along, does anyone have any suggestions about this flu shot?  Anyone not gotten it?  Gotten it AND gotten the flu?  Am I being ridiculous or should I stick with my gut?

And the responses I got were rude!  One person told me I'm an idiot!  Are you kidding?  This is the kind of treatment you get for asking a question?  I thought it was supposed to be a support group!  I miss asking advice from you ladies!!!  (I do still read all the posts here and am following all your journeys as closely as you let this board!)

  • I quoted her in her other post.
  • No thanks for nothing because the question was.......has anybody gotten the flu after getting the shot?  Or anyone not gotten the flu shot?  I never asked your opinion on what type of pregnant person you feel I am.  I never asked your ideals, I asked for advice.  You are a group of judgmental bitches and I would prefer talking to someone who has something productive to say and not something rude

Now you can't even remember what you wrote? Well don't worry, you have been quoted all over the place so you can read it again (and so can everyone else).
BTW, you don't get to dictate responses on a public forum.
  • This is a message board and your discussions aren't only for your sake but also for the sake of others.  Haven't you ever read someone else's post and still gotten valuable information from it ? That is why you get the responses you did, especially when it comes to something as important at your health and the health of your baby.

I understand being scared and I also understand wanting this to be as natural as possible.  Please know that, but this isn't something you mess or gamble with and this is coming from someone whose dad was a chiropractor and I wasn't even vaccinated as a child.  I get the flu shot, my children and my husband get the flu shot.  Even with my upbringing ( which I still support in certain cases), I still strongly believe in getting the flu shot.

Again, in my city one hospital ( just one) already had nine people die from flu complications.  The news made a point of saying that these were normal healthy people that weren't compromised ( like pregnant women) and they didn't get the shot.  Unfortunately, this is what happens.  It is sad and scary, but it happens.

Besides, if you did happen to get the flu and had to be hospitalized, the medicine they would give you in order for you to be well again would probably be worse than the flu shot.
  • Oh FFS. Get the flu shot. You can be "as natural as possible" but if you get the flu then miscarry it won't matter, will it? It's a very simple, safe way to prevent illness that could kill you or your kid. Don't act like a moron & play Russian roulette with your health & the health of your baby. JFC.

  • Looks like OP deleted her post. Lame.

And yes, you are being ridiculous, OP. I will answer your question as you stated it. I'm 35. I have never, ever had the flu nor have I had a flu shot before a week ago. Once I found out I was pregnant, and it was okay to get the shot while pregnant, I got a flu shot and I'm sending H to get one too.

It's totally not worth the risk. It's a NASTY flu season. I work in a building that has a school in it and the flu has run through several times this fall and winter. I've just been lucky, especially while pregnant.
  • Hey guys, I'm getting fun PMs! Yep, I am so abusive...says the person flagged multiple times for calling people bitches. LOL!

I just wish as mothers/soon-to-be mothers we could give our opinions in constructive ways free of insult. I see this so much on this site it makes me apprehensive to post anything. I guess this will always be the case on any community site where ppl have the veil of anonymity to hide behind.

You are not an intelligent person.  And shame on you for posting this drivel.  OP, you're an idiot for not getting the flu shot.

Because that's real mature. WHY would someone even do that?

  • Well I didn't write that article and they back up all their claims with other sources. "My post" actually had a lot of truth to it. It shows immaturity and lack of intellect when you can't share your point of view without insult. @washingtonqueen I don't actually know if your the one calling names because I don't care enough to go back up and check and then quote ppl. It's all so childish and if your intent is to get thru to someone this isn't the ideal approach. Also there was a young girl at the beginning of this flu season that died from mercury poisoning due to the flu vaccine.
  • Well this will be my last post on this subject, but I'm just trying to give an example of a site that someone might find and read while researching for themselves. It was so easy to find. It's no wonder some ppl are wary of vaccinating. I just don't understand why ppl get so worked up over someone else's "asinine" beliefs. I agree you should let ppl know when you fear they are jeopardizing their self and their baby, but in a respectful way. I guess that's just me though. Have a good day ladies! Don't get too worked up because that stress is also not good for your baby.
  • I never said hurt. "not good" Try rereading before posting so quickly. While I know most women and their babies will be just fine with the stress they undoubtedly have to deal with in life, I think you all would be much happier not worrying about the choices ppl are going to make whether they affect you or not because they're going to make them anyway. I guess I'm just the type of person that tries not to worry about things I cannot control. I'm sure after all this the original poster is still not going to get her flu shot.
  • But hey maybe someone else who was on the fence about this will now choose to be vaccinated! Silver lining ;)
  • "Affect you or not" in reference to any choice, the one that may affect you ie. vaccination and those that don't.

Excuse you? You are tagging me why?
Is that your approach to life? You're not going to look because you don't care enough. That explains a lot.

Bull fucking shit that someone died of mercury poisoning from a vaccine! There is more mercury floating in the air that you breathe than there is in a vaccine. Show me the news article on it.
  • I don't think you get it. I understand that these choices are not on the same level, but as stated she is probably still going to not get vaccinated and your still all worked up about. I'm just concerned about your happiness.
  • Angry ppl! I feel bad for you.
  • Still waiting for the news article.....

You have no idea how hard you just made me laugh! :)

  • It would be nice if all of the anti vac turds could only infect each other, effectively wiping them off of the planet. Oh, to dream.

    You read my mind.
  • Tapping my foot. Still waiting on that proof a person was killed by mercury in a vaccine. The longer it takes the stupider you look.
