Your immune system is compromised when you're pregnant. The flu can have very serious implications for you and your baby if you contract it, which is why YOUR DOCTOR RECOMMENDS IT. It looks like flu levels will be at historic highs this year. Get the flu shot.

Look, do some research with credible sources. The flu vaccine does NOT cause the flu. The flu can KILL you, and can kill your baby. Your doctor recommends it for a reason. So does the CDC. Unless you've gone to medical school and you're a world-renown immunologist, which is clearly not the case, why on earth do you think you know better than every medical body out there?

I see your point in wanting to be as natural about your pregnancy as possible, which is fine & there is nothing wrong with that. My doctor recommended I do the same & get the shot (I have had the flu before, several times actually.) I had no side effects, and little bear seems to be growing healthy and strong so far. I agree it is a good idea to protect yourself from as much as possible seeing as how your immune system is weaker now than ever before.

I would get the shot. Our local news just did a report on the flu and one hospital alone has already had 9 people die from the flu. They were otherwise healthy people ranging from their mid 20's to their mid 60's and no they didn't get the flu shot.

No thanks for nothing because the question was.......has anybody gotten the flu after getting the shot? Or anyone not gotten the flu shot? I never asked your opinion on what type of pregnant person you feel I am. I never asked your ideals, I asked for advice. This is a message board and your discussions aren't only for your sake but also for the sake of others. Haven't you ever read someone else's post and still gotten valuable information from it ? That is why you get the responses you did, especially when it comes to something as important at your health and the health of your baby.

I understand being scared and I also understand wanting this to be as natural as possible. Please know that, but this isn't something you mess or gamble with and this is coming from someone whose dad was a chiropractor and I wasn't even vaccinated as a child. I get the flu shot, my children and my husband get the flu shot. Even with my upbringing ( which I still support in certain cases), I still strongly believe in getting the flu shot.

Again, in my city one hospital ( just one) already had nine people die from flu complications. The news made a point of saying that these were normal healthy people that weren't compromised ( like pregnant women) and they didn't get the shot. Unfortunately, this is what happens. It is sad and scary, but it happens.

Besides, if you did happen to get the flu and had to be hospitalized, the medicine they would give you in order for you to be well again would probably be worse than the flu shot.

This whole "live life as natural" stuff just kills me. You know who lived life the most natural - people who were around when there were NO vaccines or meds. You know, the ones whose average life span was approx. 35 years old vs. today's which is in the 70's.

And yes, you are being ridiculous, OP. I will answer your question as you stated it. I'm 35. I have never, ever had the flu nor have I had a flu shot before a week ago. Once I found out I was pregnant, and it was okay to get the shot while pregnant, I got a flu shot and I'm sending H to get one too.

It's totally not worth the risk. It's a NASTY flu season. I work in a building that has a school in it and the flu has run through several times this fall and winter. I've just been lucky, especially while pregnant.

Not vaccinating is dangerous. The only info out there against vaccinating is from far-out, ridiculous sites like the one you posted. Many will reference a court case, only to not source or follow up with what they mentioned. Generally, the population on this board doesn't put up with stupidity. Not vaccinating is straight up stupid. If you can find a legitimate argument against it, you better call the papers because you'd be the first one on record with an actual case against it and not just speculation.

Oh, and I tell the same to people I know IRL who post this BS on Facebook or bring it up in person. I've had this argument many times with people who read one extreme article and start questioning every scientific reason for vaccination they've ever known. So your "veil of anonymity" is irrelevant to me, and most others here.

Well I didn't write that article and they back up all their claims with other sources. "My post" actually had a lot of truth to it. It shows immaturity and lack of intellect when you can't share your point of view without insult. @washingtonqueen I don't actually know if your the one calling names because I don't care enough to go back up and check and then quote ppl. It's all so childish and if your intent is to get thru to someone this isn't the ideal approach. Also there was a young girl at the beginning of this flu season that died from mercury poisoning due to the flu vaccine.

Well this will be my last post on this subject, but I'm just trying to give an example of a site that someone might find and read while researching for themselves. It was so easy to find. It's no wonder some ppl are wary of vaccinating. I just don't understand why ppl get so worked up over someone else's "asinine" beliefs. I agree you should let ppl know when you fear they are jeopardizing their self and their baby, but in a respectful way. I guess that's just me though. Have a good day ladies! Don't get too worked up because that stress is also not good for your baby.
