Help! What are your Christmas dinner favorites?

Appetizers, main dishes, desserts... anything! Ideas needed!

I thought I had it all planned, but DH wants something different so now it is back to the drawing board. Eek.

Re: Help! What are your Christmas dinner favorites?

  • We are having prime rib, twice baked potatoes, green been casserole, green salad, fruit salad, 3 bean salad, bread and who knows what else.

  • I have a new appetizer that I love. One package of Jimmy Dean hot sausage. Cook it and add 2 pkgs. cream cheese and two cans of Rotel one drained and one not. Serve with Scoop chips. Everyone always raves about it. I'm trying the famous Oreo Truffles this year too. I love Paula Deans green bean casserole too. I got it off of the Food Network site. It's so good!
  • Appetizer: mini cheeseburgers with hot pepper jelly wrapped in crescent roll dough.

  • If it were up to me, I'd have ham, cheesy potatoes, rolls, spinach salad and broccoli.
  • Au Gratin Potatoes...mmm...I can't wait for Thursday.

I love me some ham, too, but if my family let me just have a whole plate full of potatoes, it would be the best Christmas gift ever.

  • We're having the following:

For appetizers:  Cheesy Potato Bites, Baked Brie en Croute, Sweet and Sour Meatballs

For dinner:  Standing Rib Roast, Italian Wedding Soup, Rosemary Scented Creamed Corn, Scalloped Potatoes with Goat Cheese, Peas with Prosciutto, Cauliflower Casserole, Spinach Salad with Bacon.

For dessert:  pecan pie and homemade bread pudding.

What time should I be at your house for dinner?

  • We're actually doing it up for Christmas Eve this year because my sis won't have her kids on Christmas Day.  I'm kind of liking that because it means that I won't have to worry about cooking on Christmas and we can lounge in our PJ's and just hang out as a family all day (with plenty of leftovers).

We're planning to serve dinner around 2:00 and seriously, I think we probably have enough to feed half the neighborhood so come on over!

Oooh. Bad flashback to church dinners in southern Minnesota...

LOL! I could eat lefse all day long - bad memories aside.

  • This is my current menu after spending all night on Epicurious... we'll see how it changes over time :) I don't know why I end up hosting every Thanksgiving AND Christmas. Sheesh.

Crostini with roasted garlic, goat cheese, and apple chutney
    Baked brie en croute

Roasted garlic/horseradish prime rib with madeira and horseradish sauces
Cheesy baked penne with cauliflower and creme fraiche
    Twice baked potatoes with garlic
    Broccoli spinach souffle
    Green bean casserole
    Cranberry sauce
    Potato pesto rolls

Pumpkin bread pudding with caramel sauce
Grand Marnier torte with spiced cranberries

  • Lefse with butter and cinnamon sugar...yes, I can handle that. It's really the herring. And lutefisk. (shudder)
  • We are having:

Appetizers: reuben dip, beer bread and dip, chips and salsa

Main: ham and chicken wild rice soup

Sides: cheesy potatoes, tortellini salad, veggie of some sort
