Coffee

It's morning here and I woke up craving a cinamon dolce latte from starbucks (wierd because i never get that ever). So, decided to start a post about coffee. What is your beverage of choice at home and what do you order when you go Starbucks or similar place? I drink folgers hazelnut or french vanilla with extra french vanilla creamer at home and I always mix up my order when I go out :)

Re: Coffee

  • I have a Keurig so I like to drink a variety of flavored coffees at home.  My favorite is hazelnut vanilla.  At Starbucks I always order the mocha frappuccino.  YUM!

I think I am gonna run out and get one! I haven't had a cinamon dolce latte in forever.

I looooove a Starbucks Americano, hot or iced!! I've been doing them half-caf because I'm really sensitive to caffeine, and they're JUST as good!

Occasionally though, I need me a Starbucks moccacino, complete with the whipped cream and chocolate shavings. SWEET JEEBUS NOTHING COMPARES!
  • At home, we drink Target brand Kona blend. At Starbucks I always get a nonfat latte :)

At home, I'm a coffee with soy milk and Splenda girl. Sometimes in the summer I'll make a pitcher of iced coffee, but I just brew a pot and let it cool and fix it the same way. I have been doing decaf because I can't stop at just one cup. I'm basic- get me a regular breakfast blend and I'm happy!

Oh or a dirty chai tea latte...
  • At home I either use my Keurig and drink a variety of coffees- hazelnut with a dash of caramel creamer is my favorite, or I brew a local coffee ~ Cafe Ibis. It's divine. At Starbucks I usually do either a skinny vanilla latte or a caramel macchiato (hot or iced). I really miss this wonderful coffee shop that was near our old house in Alabama. They had the best vanilla hazelnut latte. I can't wait to have Starbucks again!! Stupid GD...

  • When I'm not pregnant I like to make a Columbian roast in our French press. We have a fabulous local roaster who does direct fair trading of all organic beans, it's delicious. But it gives me wicked heartburn now, so I stick with my Keurig, and a medium roast k-cup with cream.
I love americanos, or just plain espresso when out for an alone date at the coffee shop, I'm looking forward to enjoying one of those again!

  • Home...I typically just whatever type of kcup I have with milk or flavored creamer (peppermint mocha is my fave)

Out...I love Cafe Au Lait/Mistos. Usually I'll add vanilla, a "nutty" flavor, or caramel.

  • At home: local roasters, various dark or medium blends, either French pressed or made in the Bunn with almond milk/hemp milk and a little vanilla bean Torani's or some cocoa.
If I go out I mix it up. Dirty chais are my favorite.. Since I'm pregnant I usually get a cold almond milk chai with coffee ice cubes. I'm usually pretty happy with a vanilla americano, or plain drip coffee with a pump of chocolate, though.
If I'm make coffee just for me, I like to add a dash of cinnamon to the grounds. Yummy. :)

I love coffee with all my heart.

  • At home i usually use Dunkin Donuts coffee with some type of delicious flavored creamer. When my family visits or we go home for a visit they always bring me my Hawaiian Coffee or we bring a ton back. This is the only reason we haven't switched to a keurig. Cause they don't make K-cups for my fave coffee. :( I could never live without my chocolate macadamia nut, or white chocolate mocha macnut coffee.

When I'm at Starbucks my usual go to is a white chocolate mocha (iced or hot). During the holidays, Caramel Brûlée latte is my number one. Ughh..I could really go for one right now too!
  • I work at a coffee shop (Seattle's Best), kind of sick of most of the sweet lattes and am perfectly happy with a cup of black coffee every morning :) Every once in a while I want a mocha or a sip of something, but too much milk makes me bloated and my belly hurt.

  • Nonfat latte, unpolluted with any sort of sweetener... Admit I am spoiled living in a city with phenomenal roasting companies (several within a mile radius) so am exclusively a local brew girl. On occasion, I'll do an Italian roast French-pressed or percolated but the acidity bothers my stomach these days.

  • @Beachmommy1029 and @1linedrawing, what is a dirty chai? I am intrigued. I love chai lattes!!

My MIL gave me a chai latte kit for Christmas, and I have used almost all the ingredients already. But I am so glad I now know how to make a homemade chai latte. Tastes just as good as Starbucks :-)
@golfergirl08 just a chai tea latte with espresso! Easy peasy. I used to cheat and just put some (like an inch or so) Oregon chai concentrate in my drip coffee at home. :) I prefer it iced, though.

Did you know that you can buy "empty" k-cups that you fill with your favorite grounds? I'm not sure what they are called but you can probably find them at any local supermarket and they are all pretty universal so they don't have to be the Keureg brand. You just clean them out and refill for your next cup!

It's a little reusable filter- DH has one! I've seen them at Walmart, target, etc.

Good to know!!! Now I really want one. Thanks!!!
  • We have a coffee chain here in Montana called City Brew and they make an absolutely divine Latte called the Montana Morning Latte, for the life of me I can't remember what's in it, something nutty and white chocolate I think? I get it Breve so the caffeine doesn't put me on the ceiling but it has been so long since I've had one! Darn lactose intolerance! At home it's just whatever beans with tons of flavored creamer, I like my coffee blonde!

  • My Keurig is my bff. I love the wild blueberry flavor (I think it's Green Mountain) and any vanilla flavors.

Not to thread jack- but for those who use creamer, what type/flavor/brands do you like? I just recently discovered how much better I like the refrigerated creamer than the powdered stuff I used to use.

My favorite is the Bailey's caramel creamer. International Delight is good, too. I hate CoffeeMate.

  • I am a tea lover, not big on coffee but I like a latte now and then.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

The liquid refrigerated creamer is amazing. There are sooo many flavor possibilities!! I like International Delight and CoffeeMate. Some of my fave flavors are: red velvet, peppermint mocha, French vanilla, the cold stone flavors, and the Hershey flavors. There really are a ton of options.
  • At Starbucks, my go-to is a soy latte.  At home, I have a Keurig and like some different flavored coffees and use vanilla soy creamer and stevia in them.
  • At home: organic decaf with a splash of half-and-half (while preggers). Starbucks: decaf latte. This morning I treated myself to a Caramel Flan Latte. During non-pregnancy: the more caffeine the better! :)
  • I don't have a Starbucks within 50 miles. Gasp!
So I order sugar free cinnamon dulce syrup and make a latte my way. I heat a little milk, add 2 pumps, froth it with a hand frother, then brew my new fave k cup San Francisco Bay breakfast blend, on top of that.
I'm out of milk this morning so I had a chai tea.

  • I can't wait til I can drink copious amounts of coffee again.

From Starbucks I go for chai, but I prefer it with soymilk and no water added - makes the flavor stronger. In stores they sell the Tazo chai that they use in Starbucks and they sell a decaf carton, however they don't sell the decaf at Starbucks. I've been making my own at home, but it's never quite as good.

FYI, though I have rarely seen it outside of the Santa Cruz, CA area (lived there for decades in the past) there is a glorious thing called the mocha chai. No coffee, but it's basically a really spicy masala chai latte with chocolate and fresh whipped cream. IMO, the key is having a strong, unsweetened chai to begin with (there is  a lot brewed locally in SC) and the balance of spicy-sweet is delish. Highly recommend experimenting with this one... Always been surprised that I don't run into it elsewhere.

This reminds me of when I was in San Fransisco and my friend took me to this coffee place that just had an ass ton of different blends. I ended up getting an iced turkish blend with a splash of almond milk, and this particular blend they paired with fresh mint leaves. It was AMAZING. I really wish that shop was near my house. :'(

  • Carmel macchiato, no foam w whip and extra Carmel.... Soooo good ;)
  • I just picked up Starbucks vanilla k-cups last night and they are amazing! My new go-to k-cup!

That sounds amazing!! I am trying to figure out how to make my homemade chais extra spicy. The ingredients are cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon stick, star anise, and peppercorns (and tea, water, milk, sugar). So I am thinking maybe extra peppercorns and cinnamon? I will have to try adding some cocoa powder. I will be experimenting!

ETA: @HummingbirdMama, any particular place in Santa Cruz you recommend? We go there pretty often, at least once a year for the Wharf to Wharf 10K :-)
@golfergirl08, there are a few particularly good spots -- in Capitola, Gayle's Bakery does an excellent version (and for some reason, their whipped cream is phenom!). Downtown SC, I highly recommend Lulu Carpenter's on Pacific Ave and Chocolat is the joint connected to Bookshop Santa Cruz, which does a extra-chocolately version. I have family throughout the area and my folks live within walking distance of Gayle's so that's one of my regular stops. Oh, and The Ugly Mug in Soquel is also very good... :)

I think the key (not having bothered to do my own home brew) is to load up on the cloves and peppercorns, definitely the cloves!
