  • As a teacher, I can't stand when children's things are spelled incorrectly (backwards R, z instead of s). Just spell it right!!!! (Yes, the extra ! are necessary.)
  • I love me some period pauses....they make me happy!!11!!

    My pet peeves:

Parents who let their children act like little shits in public.

    Teenagers

When people don't shovel their sidewalks (I actually passed around a flyer in my neighbourhood with an email address for people who want me to shovel their sidewalks and I did it all through pregnancy! 6 months pregnant and shovelling really made people think twice about how hard it is to shovel a f'ing three foot patch of concrete). This doesn't include old people, I always shovel their driveways without them asking.

A whole list of airplane ones that could fill another thread.

Any kind of grooming in public. (Teeth picking. Nail clipping, biting, tearing. Etc.) bonus if you do it on a plane!

Grammar. For the love of God, learn the difference between:

    there, their, and there

There is a difference between the word "definitely" and the word "defiantly." The second one means "in a rebellious manner."

I could go on forever, baby.

    Preach it!
Along the same lines, random apostrophes used when a word is plural bothers the crap out of me.

YES. How could I forget that?!
There is a limo and party bus rental company nearby. I shit you not, their sign says BUSES/LIMO'S. I would never give them my business based solely on that. I cringe every time I drive by.

My mom does this, AND the opposite. She doesn't use an apostrophe when she is supposed to. I complain about it all the time to her and she just doesn't get it. It drives me nuts. For example she will post a picture of my niece on FB and the caption will be, "At Grammys playing with her doll's"   Aaaahhhh.

  • When people in a right turn lane swerve into the lane next to them to make it easier to round the corner without slowing down!

Also one of my best friends uses "taunt" instead of "taut" (like to pull something taut - not like taught for those of you who might think I can't spell!) and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. You'd think that word wouldn't come up much in normal conversation but by golly is it ever-present!

People who don't wash their hands. My brother, my MIL, and my best friend disgust me with their lack of hand washing. My brother hosted Thanksgiving and there wasn't any hand soap in the whole house. When I asked him how his daughter (age 3) washes her hands, he said she uses "magic soap" aka hand sanitizer. By the look of her hands, she doesn't use it much. My MIL comes over to make dinner for us every Friday and tonight, for example, she touched raw ground beef in addition to other things and didn't wash her hands once! And she's holding DS and I'm covertly following then around wiping his hands and face. It is just beyond disgusting to me.
  • @beaubecca-does it crack you up bc you genuinely think it's funny? Or did I make a grammatical error? (By Friday the lack of sleep has caught up with me and I'm not thinking clearly anymore.)
  • Lol I have so many that one year my students asked me to write down all my pet peeves to post somewhere in the room...  :\">
    counting down with a timer
    chanting
not holding the door if someone is coming behind you
    being late
    other people being late
    whining
I could probably go on for awhile so I'll just end it here.

Oh God, I CRINGE over this. My in-laws and a couple that we are friends with are both non-hand washers after touching raw meat, they will like rinse their hands and/or wipe them on a towel, no soap. Drives me crazy and get really O.C.D. about it. I also know some people that don't wash after the restroom and that disgusts me as well.

Life's too short to have too many pet peeves but I do.

    1) waiter/waitress that is too attentive. I hate to feel hassled.

    2) common courtesy; if I hold open a door or let you through say thank you.

    3) slow walking champions when you're in a hurry

    4) picking teeth after a meal

    5) sniffers instead of blowers

    But I love potty humour.

  • I hate when people talk loudly on their phone in an otherwise quiet place. Library, bank or dr.office. Also when people dont unbundle their kids once inside the store.

I get super annoyed when people have a separate conversation while they're on the phone with me. I just hang up  the phone after five minutes of that. Also, If I'm texting you, don't call me to respond. WTF ? Obviously I didn't want to talk.

    Yes, yes, yes.
  • Grammar and spelling errors drive me crazy-- my second grader's teacher corrected an essay of his and misspelled a word... It was all I could do not to correct it and send it back.

I also hate when people assume that a Facebook friendship is the equivalent of maintaining a relationship IRL. A FB message on my birthday is no substitute for a phone call.

    I hate being late.

It's been a long time since I was in school but I'm pretty sure "who's walking who" is correct since "is" is a linking verb. But I don't have the best memory so I may be wrong.

  • People who use the subjunctive mood wrong (saying "was" when they should say "were") is a big one for me. The commercial for the movie Kick Ass where the girl says "Robin wishes he was me" makes me want to throw the remote at my TV (It should be "Robin wishes he WERE me).
  • Diagonal street crossers. You may be getting to your destination quicker but you are staying in my way longer and I want to run you over.
