I hope I don't turn into a mom like that.

I feel like most moms think that about their kids, but it's the ones that constantly brag about it that drive me up the wall.
I totally get it. I hope I don't become one too. I understand how everyone is proud of their babies but I also don't like when they are so proud that they start comparing kids over things they don't even have control over! Like, my kid and yours are both 9 months, but mine is sooo much taller... Ummm... Yeah, that's probably because you are so much taller than the other kid's parents! I just stand there confused, listening and thinking, "and what's the point of all this...?"

I left my shopping cart in the middle of the Trader Joe's parking lot yesterday. I always try to park next to a cart return but the closest I could get was like 16 spots away. When it came out it was cold and snowing, so no way was I leaving DD in the cart while I unloaded and dragging her to and from the return. And no way in hell was I leaving her alone in the car. So I was that a-hole.

I did this at Lowes yesterday. As I was leaving it started rolling away and some guy took it to the cart return. He gave me a dirty look. I don't feel bad at all.

I was totally the person that gave someone a dirty look and said "Really?" too loudly the other day at Target, when she actually used my back bumper to rest her cart against to keep it from rolling. It's easier to get away with when the person driving the car you're using as a prop isn't walking 10 feet behind you. And this lady's kids were a bit older and it was not bad weather. I just stared at her while she mumbled an apology and walked it the extra 20 ft. to the cart return.

I would never put a cart against someone's car! And it was still pretty cold and DS had had enough of running errands with momma.

I'll take it one further and all yougurt, greek or non, is GROSS!!!!!
Yes!  The only way I can eat yogurt at all without gagging is as Raita in my Indian food.  Yogurt is gross, sweetened yogurt is extra gross.  Yogurt with pre-mixed fruit is so awful, I can't even stand to be around the smell of it.  :(

I keep wanting to like yogurt because it's so good for me.  But I can't. I guess I'll have to keep eating copious amounts of indian food to get my yogurt that way.

I'm also under the assumption at all of your friend requests got lost somewhere in cyberspace since I am way too cool to not have a single request so far =))

I have another one. My sister, who's a pre-K teacher, and a friend with a newborn both came down with the flu this week. They both admitted they didn't get their flu shots, and I want to ask them what the eff they were thinking. Probably not helpful since they're suffering their mistake anyways.
I'm one of those terrible teachers who didn't get a flu shot. Every time I go to get one I get sick (I've had four sinus infections in four months - joy!). Ugh. But yes I agree, you SHOULD most def be getting your flu shot in those situations.

Branching off of that I am slightly envious of people who complain about coworkers showing up to work sick. I wish I could tell my sick students to go home!

  • I'm so damn tired that I honestly wish I could hire an au pair or nanny or something just so I could sit on my fat ass and not deal with things some days. DD is down for a nap and I spent the last 20 minutes cleaning up shit she destroyed. Selling this house sucks ass b/c I'm not a tidy person but I have to be until we have a contract. Open house is the 19th and I'm stressing out. We had Molly Maid come tuesday and of course DD chose that day to throw her cup so hard and perfectly that the lid popped off and donor breastmilk got everywhere... Not just milk but someone else's body fluids on my freshly painted walls.  :((

  • I have another one... I haven't gotten my flu shot this year. Not because I think there's anything wrong with it - I think everyone should get it. Just out of pure laziness/forgetfulness. The day my doctor offered to give it to me was right after they had to draw blood, and I was already feeling a little woozy (needles really freak me out) so I said I wanted to wait until the next day and I was just going to go to the Walgreens clinic and get it. But then I forgot... and just kept forgetting... and maybe I'm putting it off because I hate needles... I feel like I'm so lucky I haven't gotten sick, and I know it's not too late so I need to just suck it up and go. Like today.  :-S

You can get the flu shot even if you have some sort of sickness. There is no live virus in the shot, so it would be perfectly fine.

I always have an adverse reaction to the shot, so my OB advised I not get it while I have a sinus infection. Otherwise, I would have run out and got it, like, yesterday. I love my job but, ugh, germs.

  • Hmmmmm.....just finished reading the updates on the UO thread.....which led to this:

I have NO idea, and I mean honestly no clue whatsoever, what kind of parent I would be classified as. I do the best I can by the kids.....I love them and have goals for how I want to parent and what kind of people I would like to help them turn into.....

There are apparently all of these titles though.....and I don't know where I fit.

The flammable part:  I'm exhausted and don't know that I care enough to actually research all of this. Will one of you just take pity and decide and tell me what kind of parent I am???? Thanks!!!!

    This!

My mother was always raving (to her friends) about how smart I was and what a good kid I was... I didn't get much of that on my end, only more pressure to do better. I did not respond well. And now, I really just want to be able to set an example for our DD's that life can be just as happy and fulfilling without all the "haves" most people wrap their lives around. Our DD1 is loved, clothed, cared for, feed, and has everything she could possibly need in life, but we do withhold wants because that's just not what life is about.

    Another FFFC:
I cannot stand kids who have more electronics than I do. We can call it jealousy, but really... WTF. My brothers (12) have a laptop, each, have gone through multiple GameBoys, each, have iPods, each, and got a pre-ordered PS4 for Christmas, and then mom told me they also got cell phones for Christmas. Oh, and then they wonder why they can't pry the somewhat antisocial one off of his laptop in his free time /:)

  • I'm totally getting flamed for this but I need to rant. My friend was 39w pregnant and her MIDWIFE suggested an induction only b/c she "hadn't gone on her own" yet. This is a friend who's been asking me tons of questions and for my advice throughout her own pregnancy. I would've been her doula had she not been out of state. She went ahead with the induction for whatever reason (stopped talking to me after making that decision). 36+ hours later finally a baby picture is posted. Looks like a c/s but not sure. Baby is very small for such large people (5lbs 10oz) but I know she had BP issues though it was well controlled. Also, in the picture, an oxygen mask... I just don't understand why anyone would consent to an induction, especially someone wanting a NUCB, at 39w without medical cause. And what kind of midwife suggests it!!!! So my (FF)FC is I'm totally judging at this point but keeping my mouth shut and sending her love and well wishes. More I'm judging the midwife than anything. If she hadn't brought it up it wouldn't have happened kwim?

  • I kinda feel the same way :/
I'm on here enough I thought, but haven't received a request yet. I don't want to whine about it but I'd love to be in the fb group.

Did you PM JmeJme to tell her you want to join? That's when she sends you a link to a fake profile and you send the friend request there. Don't worry, none of us just received requests ;) .

I pm'd but haven't heard back. Maybe being on mobile I can't see if she's responded. I'll see if I can figure this out on my laptop when I get home. I've been dreading trying to remember my password and figuring it out lol.. but, I need to just sit down and do it!

  • WHAT?! Funfetti and sprinkles is the best flavor! If they ever get rid of funfetti mix, I will die. Also, happy birthday, almost-twin.

@codineer86 too - I'm pretty sure they still have the Funfetti icing (vanilla with sprinkle packet) but I saw on Betty Crockers website that the rainbow chip (vanilla with mini chips mixed in) is discontinued. There were several upset reviews. But I'm still holding on and gonna check a few places just in case.

And thanks for the birthday wishes! Yours coming up soon?

I was not even aware that existed, but I suddenly have an intense craving. Thanks! Mine is Tues.

I love that icing! Amazon sometimes has food stuff, wonder if they'd have some?

Totally agree with all of this!  This is the first year I have gotten my flu shot since I started teaching because I always ended up sick anyway.  I HATE when my students come in sick and the school won't send them home unless they have a fever or throw up.   Ugh!

I feel like most moms think that about their kids, but it's the ones that constantly brag about it that drive me up the wall.

I agree. I was labeled "gifted" when I was young, and my parents always taught me that any "academic accomplishments" (for lack of a better term) were private and I shouldn't talk about them. I remember when we would take various standardized tests in school and my friends would sometimes talk about their scores, but I never knew mine because my mom intentionally kept them a secret from me. I think she did it partly because she didn't want any comparison among my siblings, and partly because she didn't want me to get a big head.

That's still sort of ingrained in me (all through college, I used to hate when friends would ask what grade I got on a test). So I don't think I'll ever be that parent who brags about their kid being advanced. But another confession (I'm on a roll today) - since DH and I both did really well in school, I might be the kind of parent to put too much pressure on my kid to get good grades, and I might be too disappointed if our kids don't take after us in that area. I'm going to have to watch myself when I comes to that.

  • Whenever my mother talks about my brother's twin boys or his wife's apparent no weight gain from her pregnancy or how she had no need for stitches or how the sun rises and sets on her, I switch the topic to me. I'm also punishing my brother for my mother's apparent favoritism by contemplating not letting him stay the night when he's in town tonight. (FTR, he uses our house like a hotel and only talks to us when he needs something.)

I was also very happy to know that my other SIL is having a boy. HA! No girl for you.

I'm all for using my pregnancy as a crutch. I couldn't remember what was wrong with my thyroid so I told my doctor I was there for a followup for my blah. Yeah. I told her my "blah" and then blamed the fact that I couldn't remember what was wrong with me on being pregnant. Or when someone criticized me for eating some (read: a whole bag) of sun chips because of all the unhealthy chemicals or whatever in it: I told the guy that baby gets what baby wants. Or the lady who insinuated that I was racist because of some term I used ("you guys"): the second I told her I was pregnant, she softened up and stopped her tirade.

Haha. My coworkers use my pregnancy as a crutch. If the there's an angry cuatomer I get them because apparently it's harder to be mean to a pregnant woman.

  • I cannot stand Greek yogurt. Or pop tarts. Gross!
My real one is that I can only remember 2 or 3 times in the last 6-8 months that I've worn a real bra. I've got some big girls, and I'm a SAHM, so I don't see the point in squeezing them into a real bra. Poor DH lol
  • I've been holding on to one all week.  I don't like being pregnant.  I'm looking forward to delivery more than the next 4 months.  It's not the growing belly or weight gain, heck this is one of the times I like my body shape the best.  It's the being sick, and heartburn, and not eating what my brain wants (but my stomach doesn't).  It's the back pain, and peeing 5 times a night already, and not being able to get comfortable.  It's the migraines and not being able to take anything.  It's the kicked in the crotch feeling when I wake up in the morning.

I get it, I should be grateful I can even get pregnant. I should love every minute since this is most likely our last. Others have it worse than I do.  I know this. But for me, pregnancy is a means to an end.

This! It seems like whenever I mention a complaint all I hear is "It'll be worth it!" or "You know some can only wish to be in your shoes!" or even better "What if the baby hears you?!?!" aaaaaaah
