So we live in Maryland and all my in laws live in Texas...things have been rocky from the beginning (DH wasn't even talking to his mom the whole time we were dating and not until DS was born). My parents have always been Mimi and Poppy to DS, DHs mom said that she wanted to be "Gran"...fits her I guess. Now all of a sudden because my SIL is pregnant she wants a new grandma name. She texts me, DH, and SIL yesterday saying she'd narrowed it down to Nan, Nonni, or Lola. Seriously....Lola? I think it's like the cutest name ever for a little girl and don't know where the eff she came up with it for her grandma name.
Anyways....DH totally laughed at her and she was like "well do you have anything better?". Put on the spot he was like uhhhhhh....so what are your parents and SO's parents called? I've gotta get Lola off the table....it could ruin a future girlfriend DS may have!
Re: What do/will your LOs call their grandparents?
How old is your child? I feel like it would be confusing for him to call her something new...

My parents (well my mom in particular) are a little saddened by the fact that there will be more than one Grandma. Grandma has always been a name of respect and she has been looking forward to being called Grandma for over a decade. We have decided it wont be really confusing once the child is old enough to differentiate between the sets of grandparents. My dad will be called Papa, which is the name we had for his father growing up and holds a special place for our family. So my parents will be Grandma and Papa, I know it doesnt really go together well but I really want to honor my parents with their new names.

It's easy for us, my in laws are Irish so to my nieces and nephews they are Mamo and Papo. So that leaves the traditional Grandma and Grandpa to my parents.

My in laws are Gigi and Papa. These were also established before we had kids. They are divorced and FIL is never around so I don't refer to him as anything. I highly doubt DD has any idea who he is.

We always referred to them as Grandma and Grandpa to DS, he decided they would be Grandma and Pop Pop for my parents, and Grandma and Grandpa for DH's parents (he only met DH's father once and just referred to him as we indicated). I don't know where he got Pop Pop from but thought it was cute because that's what I've always called my grandfather, so once he did it we started calling my Dad Pop Pop and it stuck. My mom had said before he was born that she wanted to be Mimi, but we said it's up to DS, whatever he decided. I referred to her as Grandma and she would say Mimi but Grandma stuck.
ETA: fat fingers can't type on mobile I guess.
We try to call Achamma once or twice a week. DD will be 2 in March and the other evening she picked up her toy phone and kept saying "Achamma! Achamma!" It was adorable and we thought it was really cool that she gets it.
My mom and her husband are Grandma and Grandpa
Babysitter and her husband are Nana and Pawpaw
My dad is Opa (German for grandfather) and my mom is Memaw. My ILs are Nana and Papa.

Does anyone else thinks it's odd when people "request" to be called something? I thought the child just kind of decided. Maybe that's just me though.
My mom is practically forcing "Mema" (mee-mah) down our throats, and both DH and I hate it! She refuses to go by Grandma or Gram. I even suggested Gigi or Mimi as cuter options, and she wants none of it!
Most likely, my dad and his "wife" (for all intents and purposes) will be Grandma and Grandpa. My dad isn't the type to complain or claim names,so I'm sure he'll go along with whatever this LO ends up calling him.
DH's parents are Italian, so I thought it would be cute for them to go by Nana/Papa or Nonnie and Papa, but who knows.
