Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Eye Contact and Other Quirks

How much eye contact do your babies make? My little guy (7 Months) makes limited eye contact. He won't look at my while bottle feeding, but will when he's in his high chair. Occasionally he will look at me when I call his name.
He also started twisting his wrist. At firstI didn't think much of it but now he started doing it with his ankles too. This week 2 people noticed him moving his feet and commented on 'how cute" it is and saying "I've never seen a baby do that". I thought he might be learning new ways to move his body. Are any other babies rotating their hands and feet?
Thanks!

Re: Eye Contact and Other Quirks

  • Yes LO just recently loves to wave her hands around by rotating her wrists. Thought she had learned to wave at people but then realized she just likes to watch her hands when she does it! She's almost 9 mos

  • DS is doing the same as the PP, he started waving about two weeks ago but also will just sit there and watch his hand while he turns his wrist back and forth and around. I think they just get fascinated when they can start to do new movements. It doesn't concern me at all. DS also probably responds to us 50% of the time when we call his name, this is totally normal. My neice is 1.5 and is the same way, I think they're still just learning all the connections to things we say..

  • My daughter constantly looks like she's playing air guitar because her little hands are always moving. Also, she doesn't like to touch things with her hands but will kind of scratch things to feel them.

  • DS is also fascinated by his his hands and twists them like you said. I could seriously post the original post about our little guy. He only looks into our eyes when he wants something, but when he's content he's always looking around and up at the ceiling. It's nice to know he's not the only one.

My DD just turned 6 months and I noticed her rolling and moving her hands, too. Well, she surprised me by starting to wave these past few days! Also, neither of my kids ever made much eye contact while nursing or bottle feeding but they did at other times so I was never concerned. She responds to her name a lot of the time but not always which is completly normal.
