Pregnant after IF

Movement

At my last appointment, my Ob said I should be feeling 10 movements a day, but today baby seems really inactive. Fwiw, yesterday baby kicked all day...big kicks from the time I woke up until I went to bed. I have an anterior placenta so sometimes I only feel little pokes and prods. Today is one of those days and I don't thinking I've gotten to 10. Should I be worried?

  • If I feel less movement I have tried switching positions, lying on my left side, and having something to drink/eat. I would say if those things don't help and you are worried call your OB for peace of mind. Now that baby is big (38 weeks) if she's not moving enough I poke her to wake her up and make sure she's ok:)

  • So many docs are different, but mine told me with DD not to expect to feel frequent movement til 28 weeks. Also, they never had me do kick counts. He said it causes stress.

This worked for me every time. Go drink some OJ or something like that and sit very very still or lay down on your left side and really focus. This was always my go-to.

  • I had a scare for movement at that time. I went to the ER and they told me she is fine. You really start counting after 30 weeks. I got a doppler for that reason to check heart rate and listen for movement, since I could not feel it much. Best of luck and I would get a dopler.

  • I've never bothered to count kicks. My OB hasn't told me to either, but I figure as long as I can feel something going on every once in a while LO is probably fine. I honestly don't think I'd be able to keep track of numbers while focusing on whatever I'm doing while LO kicks.

  • I also have an AP and was never told to do kick counts as it could cause me more stress than not.  I DO try to be aware of active times and feel for/concentrate on movements then.

At 23 weeks it was still hard for me to feel something all day. And now at 34w+, it's hard because baby is resting a lot and much more squished.

Drinking cold water or hot tea or having a sugary drink can often get your LO moving.

You still have a lot of time left in this "day" to feel movement - but if it's stressing you out or you feel something is off, you should call your doc and ask their advice on going in.

  • I had this same concern last week!  I noticed a couple of days LO was just not very active.  It freaked me out enough that I finally told DH and started googling.  But, for once, google actually made me feel better.  Several things I found said that baby probably changed position and is facing towards the spine, so most of the kicks and punches can't be felt.  And that it's common to experience "quiet days" around 24 weeks. It also said what PPs said, that movement is very unpredictable until after 28 weeks.  Now, LO is back to her gymnastic little self, so I feel much better.  I probably will ask the OB tomorrow though, just to make sure.  I hope your LO is pummeling your insides again soon!
