Baby eczema?

Any one else dealing with this? DS had it when he was newborn and just this morning I noticed his skin has broken out again. Just curios if there are any products you would recommend? Thanks!!!

Re: Baby eczema?

  • Eucerin cream (it's thicker than the lotion) twice a day. You can also use hydrocortizon 1% cream too. If it is really bad, your pedi can prescribe hydrocortizone valerate (not for face or genitals, though). We use that on DS because his eczema gets really bad behind his ears and in the chubby rolls by his hands. I think winter is making it worse!! Good Luck!

  • Yes! My son has terrible eczema. He has a prescription coritzone cream for it and it is still getting worse. Our doctor told us: no dyes or perfumes in anything, eucerin lotion, hydrocortizone cream, and baths every few days. I feel bad for him! Hopefully you can nip it in the butt before it gets too bad!!
  • I wash DD with California Baby products.  They smell great and are really mild.  For moisturizer, I use either Aquaphor or Kiss My Face Aloe & Olive Oil.  Actually, the whole family uses the Kiss My Face moisturizer -- it's great!

  • Avenno Oatmeal bath and Avenno lotion - both the lavendar and regular oatmeal one have worked wonders!
  • DD didn't have a really severe case at all, but I noticed that things really started improving once I started washing her with Cetaphil, and then using Aveeno lotion all over, with Aquaphor on top of the Aveeno on the patches.
  • We have a horrible case of it. We were using Aquaphor then Aveeno then Eucerin. Nothing helped. Pedi told us to use Hydrocortisone .5%. It's half strength, no more then twice a days for five days. It almost disappeared after using it twice.

?**I know most of the above products are spelled wrong. I'm too lazy to check the correct spelling ;)?

  • Our pedi recommeded Aveeno lotion too.

  • We use hydrocortisone during an outbreak, then Cetaphil body wash and Cetaphil body cream or Aquaphor (pedi said no lotions b/c they're water-based).
  • We switched to California Baby products and his skin has been clear ever since.  I think perhaps the parabens in the other soaps/lotions were irritating.  I also put some Eucerin Aquaphor on his face.
  • Ditto pp for Aveeno and other products - but we use the generic/store brand of the same lotion since DH and I also use those. Also, consider not giving him a bath as often, especially in the drier winter months. We only give DD a bath 3 times a week at most because her skin gets so dry and irritated.
  • Aveeno's soothing bath and lotion. Anything else makes him break out (including the $20 a tube Mustela we wasted our money on for two months).

  • My son has really bad eczema. We can not use any lotions or creams on him other than plain jane Aveeno. We can not use hydrocortisone on him because it makes the eczema open up more and become infected. We also found out that triple antibiotic breaks him out really bad also. We use a cream called Elidel when he breaks out. We also use Benadryl to help alleviate the itching. Things as simple as Vaseline were breaking him out. Don't wear any type of perfumes yourself or even lotions with scent. Switch laundry detergents to dye free and perfume free. Including the dryer sheets need to be scent/dye free.

We had him tested for food allergies and it came back positive for eggs. He can not tolerate banana's and will break out with eczema also.

His eczema is so bad that it goes from no sign of itching/redness to staph infections. =(

Also, I wanted to add that Elidel is a controversial medication. I had three different doctors (pediatrician, allergist and dermatologist) tell me that it is safe.
