How much did you spend on your wedding dress?

For those of us who are married or have been married, how much did you pay for your dress? I was just talking to a friend who said that a co-worker's daughter spent $650 on a homecoming dance dress and I was shocked because I didn't even spend that much for my wedding dress! Got me wondering how cheap I really am... =)

If you've had more than one dress for whatever reason (more than one marriage, different dress for ceremony and reception, etc.) feel free to SS or just pick one.

ETA:  Don't include price for alterations and such, just the actual dress.

I'm one of those crazy (read: rich) girls on "Say Yes to The Dress" who paid like $10,000 or more for my dress.

I got mine free. (Family heirloom, borrowed from a friend, etc.)

  • I can't remember the exact dollar amount but my dress was just under $400.  It was originally $600 but I got it during a sample sale and it fit perfectly.

    SS here!

$1400 on my first wedding dress, but my aunt chipped in $400 as my wedding present, otherwise it would've been out of my budget.

$350 for my second wedding dress but that's because I bought off-the-rack! It fit like a glove and would've ran me $1700 if I had to order one in my size. I got so lucky with it!

My mom made my dress :) She also made both of my older sisters' dresses. The fabric was around $75, i think.
I knew I was missing something!  I guess it's still money spent, but should have had a hand made dress option.  That's awesome.

  • @HBirdie - I love that you wore a short dress!

I got mine on the David's Bridal $99 sale rack. I'm pretty sure the alterations were more expensive than the dress (just needed a hem)

  • @HBirdie - that dress is so cute!  I love the tulle, what a great idea.  Love the tennis shoes in the first pic.  Your personality really comes through in those pictures!  I had a short dress too.  It was a high/low hemline so shorter in the front than the back.

  • I got mine on ebay for $350.  It was more than I wanted to spend, but it was the exact dress I wanted.  I really wanted a boatneck neckline and couldn't really find anything like it in the stores here.  It fit perfectly and only needed $30 in alterations (just took up the straps 1/4 inch on each side.

    Here it is:

  • Mine was $500-600....I think.  I actually don't remember.  I split the cost with my mom.  Alterations were going to be crazy expensive, and the lady wanted to put 12 buttons across my butt for the bustle.  Luckily, DHs aunt offered to come do it, sans buttons for free :)

  • I didn't have a traditional dress but I bought mine from Torrid for about $20, including shipping!
  • We spent 1500... I got it from a boutique and it was beautiful.

My only regret was not getting a simple dress to change into because it was so heavy and hard to sit in

Thanks! I loved that it was short, and our wedding was outside on, ironically, a ridiculously hot day (in the 90s, which is unusual for the Pacific Northwest, even in August). I seriously don't know what I would've done in a long, heavy dress. I was sweating all day as it was!

Aww, thanks! :) I did have a lot of people comment to me that my dress was "so me." Haha. I feel like what better day to be SO you? :) I wore the TOMs just for the ceremony and the chucks for the rest of the day. Sadly, with my new post-pregnant foot growth, I cannot fit into either pair of shoes anymore.

  • @hbirdie I love the quirkiness to your wedding. I think sometimes too formal is so boring and stuffy. Your wedding looks like it was laid back and just fun!

  • I can't remember the dress price, but total (with veil) it was $1100. I don't think alterations were much, since I just needed a hook and loop for the bustle.

  • I loved my dress! It was only $500 and no alterations I was thankful that it fit perfectly.
    * i will say though I spent $450 on my prom dress so I can't say much to OP about the girl who spent $650 on one of her dresses.

  • Amazon is my friend. The dress itself was like $60 and EXACTLY what I was looking for

Thank you!! I wouldn't do it any other way. We paid for just about everything ourselves, and formal/fancy is just not our style. We had a decorate-your-own cupcake station, we rode off on a tandem bicycle, our guestbook was a bunch of jenga-like blocks that people signed (my husband made them), and we played ultimate frisbee during the reception. It was a really fun day.
That's awesome! especially the cupcake station. I would have been glued to that your entire reception lol

  • I loved my dress! It was a gift from my mom and dad. It's so special because she was there when I picked it even though she didn't get to see me on the day. It was around $1200 I believe.

I was in the higher range (2-3000)... but that was including the veil and belt/sash. I LOVED it, and I incorporated the sash and my pearls into some of LO's newborn pics :)

  • I paid less than $400 for my dress from David's bridal.

  • Mine was a big ball gown and was about $360 but my veil ended up being $160. I can't believe I spent almost half as much on my veil but it had crystals hanging off it. ... So pretty :)
  • @whitneylux, I love your dress!

Mine was originally $1400, but I got it for $800 off the rack. I thought it was a great deal and felt awesome in the dress.

  • My dress was a thousand. No clue what the alterations cost (my mom paid) but they couldn't have been cheap- I'm only five foot so that dress needed quite the hem! So envious of you ladies who just bought off the rack!

  • My dress was $499, so I chose under $500, but I forgot about the alteration I had done. I never had that "this is the one" moment, but I still loved my dress.

  • Mine was around $2000 I think, but my mom bought it for me. I honestly don't remember exactly how much it cost since it was about 7 years ago. imageimage
