Maternity vs. regular bathing suits

  • I was just giving my opinion on and OPEN FORUM.  I hate the way pregnant women look in bikinis, I think they just look plain ridiculous regardless of their body type or how they're carrying.  And seriously gimme a break with all the "fat shaming" BS.  I would NEVER say something to someone or make fun of them - I'm far from perfect, but c'mon, there are definitely women out there, pregnant or not, that should NOT be wearing certain things to the beach.  It's all about dressing for your body type, whether it's regular clothes or a bikini, wear what flatters you....and bikinis do NOT flatter pregnant women no matter how you spin it.  Sorry, they just don't.
Actually, it's about how comfortable you feel. Most women do feel more confident in something that is figure flattering, but what one person finds flattering, another might not. I happen to think pregnant women CAN look fantastic in a bikini, so in my opinion they are wearing what flatters them. Sure, I might not want to see them in a thong and a tiny string top with triangles that barely cover the nipples, but you know what? I don't want to see anyone in that, regardless of how fit they are. But they're still entitled to wear it if it makes them feel good doing so.
They're absolutely entitled to wear it, but that doesn't mean that it looks good or they should.  Modestly ladies.  Keep it classy and wear what's flattering.  I've never in my life seen a pregnant woman look good in a bikini....never, and I've seen MANY down the shore in the summer.
So like I said, everyone has a different opinion on what looks good and what is flattering. You may think pregnant women could never look good in a bikini, but lots of people think they do. I suppose they should all go to you to approve their choice in outfit before going out in public because you determine whether or not they are being 'appropriate'?

No breaks for fat shaming or bump shaming. That's what you are doing so you are gonna get called on it. You can post whatever you want but, as I have learned numerous times, its not flame free. I think your opinion is small minded, archaic and rude. Its none of your business what anybody else does with their body, but quick cover yourself up before you vomit. Have fun hating yourself for the next 6 months...the "you" is specific. I on the other hand will enjoy being comfortable in my new body.
Actually, you bring up a great point!  I have to say as much as my body is growing now and I've bigger than I've ever, I've actually never felt sexier!  It's strange because I hear so many pregnant women complain that they don't feel good about themselves, but I totally feel the opposite so I'm right there with you!  It's fab!  That said, I don't need to be out on the beach shoving my belly in everyone's faces in a bikini.  It's not appropriate.  If other women want to do it, then good for them, but that doesn't make it appropriate, it's just that they're comfortable doing that with their bodies.  To each their own.
I feel like part of the problem here is just in your phrasing. So you think it's inappropriate for women to bare their bellies? Fine. I vehemently disagree, but we don't all have to be besties here. You appear to somewhat believe we all have the right to choose how and when to show our bodies, but then rescind that by your classifications of what is or is not appropriate. What you are expressing is an opinion, not a fact. If you would perhaps write "I don't think its appropriate for me personally," or "I prefer not to show my body in such an such a way," then maybe we wouldn't all be so offended.

Or who gives a crap. Say whatever you want. It gives us all an afternoon of entertainment and distraction from our day jobs :)

  • Not appropriate would be to have naked pregnant ladies running around. Cruise ship/beach or whatever..at least we aren't showing all our lady parts.

I would never show my pregnant bare belly and I prefer not to see others.  How's that?  lol Obviously I would never say anything to a pregnant lady on the beach with her belly all out, but I'd be thinking not so nice thoughts....just being honest.

Except you did say it to an entire forum of pregnant women, some of whom do want to wear a bikini. So because we're behind a computer screen, and not directly in front of you, it's OK to say that you think it's disgusting, and you hate it? And those are the words you used.
I assume you're not all sitting at your computers in teeny weeny bikinis........

SNLT1012 It's more about what's appropriate and tasteful for whatever occasion you might be dressing for, whether wedding or the beach, or whether pregnant or not.  With all of my IVF weight this summer, there's NO way I'd put on a bikini, as much as some would tell me it's fine, it's not - and I was not pregnant at that point.  And, yes, sorry but skinny girls just look better in bikinis than heavier girls and/or pregnant women - THEY JUST DO!  Anyone who's not clinically blind would be lying if they said otherwise.

I'm going home now to have dinner with DH.  Maybe I'll run around the house with my shirt pulled up afterwards and see if he gets uncomfortable.  Peace out all your pregnant bikini-wearing mamas!

  • I didn't read all the posts but I just wanna add some confidence, bikini all the way!! I wore one with my first up until I delivered and It was summer in months 5-9 for me. I slathered on my SPF 75 (I'm pale) and laid out almost every day. It was a nice cozy minimum of 100 degrees that summer (hottest summer on record here in Texas) and I loved swimming to cool off. No way I was paying $100 for a swimsuit when my bikinis were much more comfortable! Got tons of compliments too!

I wore a regular bikini in South Beach in December when we went for our babymoon. I did have to get a size bigger bc my boobs grew. I'm. 5'1 and I popped out early so I had a baby bump and I rocked it! Whoever thinks its gross or whatever is clearly insane and is not comfortable in their own skin! I love my baby bump and I am proud of it. I also did not get sunburned so that was good just be sure to use sunscreen! I asked my OB before I went and she said there is no problem to expose your belly to sun just HYDRATE to keep your body temperature down! Enjoy!!! :D

Edit: ok I just read the thread bc I got curious...that's what's wrong with society, saying only skinny people look good in a bikini! That is why so many girls and women have poor body image esteem and some become anorexic! As a woman, shame on you @FutureMrsW9 for saying that, even if that is your opinion, keep it to yourself and I hope that you are not having a girl to tell she can't wear certain things! Ugh! That just upsets me on so many levels! Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there are socially and morally wrong things to say!
