Awake Time

If you had to estimate how long do you think your LO is awake during the day? And what is the longest stretch of awake time each day?

My LO only sleeps maybe 4-5 hours from 9 am to 9 pm most days.

Re: Awake Time

  • DS2 is 3.5 weeks old and he wakes to breastfeed which takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Once or twice a day he will stay awake for a little bit after breastfeeding.

  • LO is 5.5 weeks. She eats (breastfeed so time varies) and then after day feedings is up for an hr or so. I read to her, she lays on her playmat and I show her toys, I sing to her, etc.
  • Same as @NYMama1. She is 3 weeks tomorrow and starting to stay awake for a little while after her morning feeding and then again in the late afternoon/very early evening. Like right now, she is making noises and looking all around.

  • My LO is awake after most feedings for at least a half hour. Sometimes it's an hour and we also do things like read, tummy time, playmat.

  • Hmm... LO is 5.5 weeks and probably only naps after one or two of her feedings. We are on the play mat, play with some toys, and spend some time in the Mamaroo. We tends to be a little more fussy closer to 6-9 at night. But then has two long stretches if sleep at night.

  • My LO sleep about 6 hours during the day, from 9-10am to 9-10 pm. The rest of the time myself it my mom are exercising her, she on her play mat, in her swing, staring at the wall (it's her Favourite thing), or she's just making noises.

  • My baby is 3 weeks, and he sleeps all day up all night, they told me he was going to do that cause he was still almost all day and up all night when he was a inside baby. Last night he slept two hours.... He just went down right now.

  • I notice lately that DS is awake for 2-2.5 hours in the morning. This is when we do tummy time and play on his play mat because he's most alert then. He'll be 6 weeks Saturday & is going through a growth spurt so he's been awake more during the day since he's eating and/or crying most if the time.

  • My kid doesn't sleep. She does at night (yay!) but rarely during the day. Whoever said newborns sleep all the time lied...big time. I can't get anything done because if she's not eating or in my arms she cries. I wish she would take a nap!

I could have written this. My LO is 10 days old, sleeps like a champ at night (feeds for 1/2 hr then sleeps 3-4 hrs), but will.not.sleep during the day. At least I get sleep at night - knock on wood!!!
  • My guy sleeps a lot.  He usually has a 2 hr awake time in the morning then sleeps the rest of the day (waking every 2 hours or so to eat) until early evening, when hes awake another couple hours mostly cluster feeding/yelling at anyone but me.  He sleeps all night, but only in 2-3 hr stretches.  Yawn!!

my LO is 5 weeks today, not really sure exactly how many "hours" of sleep time she has, but she's usually awake for a little while after feedings (less than an hr usually), naps, & then is awake for a little bit before the next feeding.  Naps are not always great, they can be as short as 1/2 hr, or sometimes up to 2 hrs.  I'm learning to catch it when she's sleepy so I can get her down before she gets too fussy.
  • LO usually is awake for a 4 hr stretch when he wakes up in the morning then he has another awake period about 3pm for 1-4hrs
