  • I don't think people educate themselves enough. This can be said about many life issues but lately I'm finding this very true about my IRL friends who are parents. If I mention something, like starting solids at 6 months or 4 month sleep regression they look at me like I made it up. In our prenatal classes no one had done any research prior to showing up. They thought they could learn everything about pregnancy and parenting through a three day course. It is not that difficult to read about topics that pertain to your life either in books, on the internet, or watch a video. People are either lazy or too trustworthy of others.
This was my experience on TB when I had DD1. People took what was posted at face value (most of which was baseless) and no one did a lick of legit research on anything. It was exhausting.

  • This is a uo among my group of friends IRL. I love horror movies. LOVE them. But ever since getting pregnant I can't do it anymore, I don't know what changed. When I saw paranormal activity I had to watch princess movies after to calm down and I haven't been able to watch one since.

@Natalie2167 I guess we are on the same page today. Edit: spelling is hard when you only get little blocks of sleep.

I think it has to do with all of the Facebook postings lately. It opened up my eyes to how clueless people are.

After spending a year on here and seeing how much we all try to be "educated" about the decisions concerning our LO's, I feel that most people I know IRL are pretty clueless when it comes to all things child safety related.  I may have a naive set of friends but they seem to know nothing about weight limits for car seats,  front facing vs rear facing, flamable PJ's, acceptable growth rates.  I wonder if I am just too uptight but I could not leave my child's safety to chance.

I've noticed this, too.  My mom tells me I am going to have grey hair before I'm 30 because of all the things I make sure to do that don't really need to be done.  Such as putting LO's car seat IN the cart at the store instead of sitting it on top.  I swear I'm the only one in town that does it that way. I know I'm not the only one that knows it's safer to do it that way, yet I seem to be the only one that does it.  Yes mom, it means that I have to either not buy many groceries or strategically put the groceries in the cart, but it's safer so I'm doing it that way.
I always silently cringe when I see people at the grocery store with the carseat in the top seat. If we bring J to the store he goes in the cart like your LO. My sister and I actually got into a fight about this the other day.
I have gotten in arguments with my sister and my mom over it too. I will either wear LO in the store or put her in the cart.

  • I hate the tv show New Girl. I don't think it's funny at all. I can't believe happy endings was cancelled and new girl is still on.

I totally agree! I have friends who have started just asking me when ever they have questions, like I'm the expert or something. I just think, do you really not research or read anything?

S/O Book Lovers: I am prepared to be flamed for this. I liked The Hunger Games movie more than the book. I do like the book, but I feel like I had too high of expectations because everyone was freaking out over it.

Did you see the movie before you read the book?

I have a lot of friend who saw the movie and decided to read the book and hated the book.  I LOVEEEEE the book, and I like the movie.  The book details her thoughts a lot more than the movie does, and I can see where that might get a bit long and drawn on for someone who saw the movie first.   Because I read the book first, I was a bit disappointed with the movie because a lot of those thoughts weren't conveyed in to the movie.
I actually prefer to read the book AFTER the movie (in most cases) only because I'll hate the movie. I'll sit there the entire time bitching about all that they left out. That and I don't mind knowing the plot in the book already because it makes up for it with all the details you get out of books. I tend to miss a lot/they don't focus on the details in movies like they do in books. I have yet to read the Hunger Games, but I did like the movie, so I assume I'll love the book.

  • Totally agree about the parenting thing. People with younger babies than E ask me if I'm doing X or Y yet and I just kind of stare blankly back. Or, sorry ladies, but all of the pictures of the LOs in the bundle up thread the other day in snowsuits in the car seat... Also, I hate scary movies and New Girl is hilarious. @starscream for some reason I smile every time you call your baby "homeboy". Don't know why! :) ETA: spelling is hard.
The snow suits made me cringe too.

And New Girl IS hilarious. But I did also love Happy Endings.

  • @HauntedRadio aren't the fleece snowsuits okay in the car seat? I guess I was under the impression that the fleece ones are okay, as long as they aren't the big puffy snowsuits.  Because the fleece snowsuit thing I have from Carters is quite thin.

  • Every character in Happy Endings had the same personality. I've never seen New Girl. The Goldbergs is hilarious.

So this is an irl uo for me.

Why the hell do people feel the need to post pics to social media of them cobathing their baby. I dont care people cobathe, i cobathe my son i get cobathing.

But ive seen three social media friends post pics of them cobathing their child.and even though they threw on a swim suit top i still think posting pics of you cobathing is unneccisary

  • I feed my baby rice cereal in a bowl, and she loves the shit out of it. Also, just started fruits yesterday. She does not like apples?! I guess that's my LO's UO :)

Ok. I might actually have a legit UO this week. We shall see.

It baffles me how some people can't keep a job. No one has that much bad luck with employment for 10 years.. the problem isn't THE JOB... it's YOU.

PREACH! I totally agree. I've ALWAYS been employed and when I wasn't for that one month (more like two weeks) when I was 18, I was searching every day and was hired immediately. I don't care if you have to work a lower wage job or work two part time jobs.... get off unemployment unless you REALLY need it.

(ETA: I kind of spun this on to an unemployment rant. But I totally get what you mean about people jumping from job to job. We just had a guy come in here (a machine shop) and apply, with no experience, and had 10 different jobs in the last 10 years. And none of them were with a machine shop. Doh!)

BTW.. here's an additional UO. I freaking hate CVS. That one month I was unemployed was because I barged in and quit because they were assholes. I was a shift supervisor AND they pegged the Photo Lab Supervisor position on me too (sometimes same shift. totally not legit) and I made $8.50/hour and they were threatening to fire me because I wouldn't work a Sunday.. which was the ONE DAY off I always asked for. And it wasn't a special week or holiday or anything.. which I had previously picked up, no problem. They suck.

  • After years of falling victim to them myself, I have come to the conclusion that "diets"don't work. The key to loosing weight is eat less, eat healthier, exercise more!
    duh

My UO is that I don't care how long you've been married or with someone, I think some things should still "remain a mystery" in the relationship. Most specifically pooping In front of each other. This doesn't count labor because your main goal and attention isn't on something that may or may not happen. But other than that or situations similar, we know we do it yada yada, but that does not mean we need to see each other in the act. I'm lucky enough to have a two bath home so even with "emergencies" if DH is in the shower or getting ready I can use the other bathroom. And don't tell me "just wait till you're married longer" I know for a FACT I will never intentionally without exhausting all other options poop with DH on the bathroom

Amen! This goes along with my UO from a few weeks back that girls just don't do that type of stuff. lol.

please, take a bite all you lurkers :)

I'm not a fan of New Girl but Zooey was the inspiration behind my Zoey's name.

My UO I am so thankful I switched to EP earlier than I anticipated. It has helped my stress level so much.
  • this avatar thing is really starting to annoy the crap out of me!!
