Make me go to the gym

I really need to go to the gym. I really need to go to the gym. I really need to go. Why can't I just get up and make myself go?! I'm stuck to the computer doing nonsense.

I don't even have to do anything hard. Like, walk on an incline for an hour and read my book. Or elliptical. It's not like I have to go do anything strenuous or painful. I'm just lazy. 

Make me go to the gym. Please.

  • I have better luck going to classes. Forces me to workout. If left to my own devices on the treadmill these days I'll do all of a mile haha.

  • The first steps are the hardest: stopping what you're doing, leaving the house, actually going there.  Do it!  Do it do it do it!  Then when you're done you'll feel awesome, and you can pretend you're a rockstar super accomplisher of all the things.

  • Leave a little early and stop by target for a cute new sports bra or yoga pants. I got a workout zip-up from the maternity store yesterday...and it's cuteness is pretty much the only motivation getting me to a yoga class this afternoon.

    Agree 100% with @kimberlykl2009 though, classes have been my only source of motivation lately for both getting to and staying at the gym!

  • When I feel like I don't want to go I make myself give it 10 minutes. If after 10 minutes of working out I'm still not feeling it, I give myself permission to call it a day but that never ends up happening because I start to feel good and want to stay.

    Somehow the 10 minute rule tricks my brain just enough to get out there if I'm feeling lazy.
  • Let's just say that I should be able to claim my gym membership as a charitable contribution...cause I pay every month, but haven't gone since Aug!

  • Thanks for the motivation guys! It worked! I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on a stationary bike. Hooray.

    As soon as I closed TB, I remembered why I didn't want to go so badly: my required reading for grad school this week is Plato. Bleh. I got about 10 pages read but thank goodness for summaries on the internet, otherwise I'd have no idea what the heck I'm staring at.

    @smittysmiles If I had read your post before I left the house, I probably would've driven to the store to buy myself cake instead! Cake is only my most favorite food in the whole entire WORLD. :x

  • I agree with those that said classes help!! Even pick an easy one just to get yourself there and do your own workout after.
    I could not get myself to the gym enough so I gave up my membership and joined a private boot camp class where I love going.

    I totally agree with the classes, it's just that my gym doesn't offer any that I like on Wednesdays. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I usually have no problem getting my butt to zumba!  :(|)

    ETA so basically zumba is the only class I like anymore. I really should try a yoga or something to get some stretching in, but, eh.

  • Dude I haven't been to a gym in two years. Mad respect to those of you that stick to a routine!! I wish I was motivated.
  • I can't drive to the gym but I can workout at home. I feel 100% better after my home exercises. I do steps on my stairwell. Up Down each step 10 times with alternating feet. I do bicep curls and overhead extensions while stepping. My heart gets pumping baby and I both feel better. I sleep better and the shower afterward is awesome. You will feel so much better then sitting in the pc all night. Believe me I have had plenty of pc nights and workout nights are so much better!

  • I was all excited to go to the gym after a long break due to moving and traveling for holidays- then after one day back I am raging sick today. Lesson learned....but seriously once you take the few steps out the door it gets a lot easier.

  • Just first try getting dressed for the gym..sometimes I have to talk myself into it and bargain with myself like "u don't have to go. Just change and see how u feel". It usually works for me :)

  • I can't make myself leave the house for exercise, so I do videos at home.

  • I just signed up for a yoga class in the evenings. Manly chose this particular yoga studio because I have to drive by it on my way home from work. I'm suffering from no motivation big time .

  • My "gym" is the elliptical in my garage. I've only used a couple times since I've been preggo. I'm either too tired or just don't want to. I am busy tho walking around a lot so I guess tht counts!
