When is your shower and what are you wearing??

Re: When is your shower and what are you wearing??

  • Feb 23rd ... I'll be 31 weeks! Yikes! And no idea what I'll be wearing as I haven't had very much luck with plus size maternity clothes. Why do clothing stores hate plus size woman??? So annoying!

  • Ok, I really don't want to offend anyone here, so please please do not read this as a criticism!!!

I am really floored again by cultural differences! I don't get a shower because we don't do them here. So consequently I don't get the customs associated with the shower - or the etiquette even.

I do think its a wonderful thing and admit that I'm more than just a little envious of all of you because we buy everything for baby ourselves. as a FTM it would be lovely to have help with this but there you go (sob sob! ok I'm over it now!)

I have to say that if I was to have a shower, then what I would be wearing is clothing, and I really wouldn't care what others thought!!! TBH the people who would come to one know me and my style and know that at 30+ weeks pregnant when the shower would happen, anything other than a sack would be impressive!!!

I just think its a shame that there is so much pressure put on something that sounds like it should be fun!!

That said, if you want to put the effort in then I say more power to you, and have an awesome time!!!! (and some food for me!)

  • My shower is Feb 1st. I'm registered at Target and BRU. This is the dress I'm going to wear, prob with some flats. Hopefully I don't freeze my ass off!!
  • @mrscrcalli where's that dress from? It was 8 degrees here today but I still need that dress!
  • I don't know when/ where my shower is. My family likes to keep things like this a surprise. My husband and I registered at buy buy baby and pottery barn kids for bedding. I'm wearing the dress below......hopefully it will fit in the weeks to come. Bought up a size for extra belly room!

  • One will be February 23rd, another will be March 1st, and I'm sure I'll have another one, hopefully some time in February again. I'm a very practical person, not very fashionable, so I'll probably just wear whatever fits. If I do buy something, I'll probably be wearing it to all 3 showers. :D

  • @avidkeo no offense and I know you gave the disclaimer and all but I found your comment a tad condescending. Any hoo! I always make an effort to look nice when leaving home and pregnancy is certainly no excuse for me not to. I'm just a girlie girl like that I guess. I planned on buying my own baby stuff but since I'm a FTM my sisters insisted on throwing me a shower. I doubt I'll get cribs and gliders at my shower. Since I'm the guest of honor I think it'd be insulting to the hostesses to show up looking like there was no effort in getting dressed. That isn't saying one has to get a glam squad to look nice for her shower it's just saying that if a shower is thrown for you then at least try to look presentable. That's totally my own opinion though.

Fair enough. I'm regretting posting now. I think envy kicked in too much! both cause no showers and the best looking dress I could find for me if I was having one was the equivalent of a 6 man tent. I love New Zealand, but sometimes think that the lack of variety we have is appalling. Also apparently you are not supposed to be pregnant if you are over a size 12... (as in there is no stores here that have nice maternity clothing for anyone bigger than that)

I love you are all putting in effort and think its amazing. Please ignore my envy fueled post (hangs head in shame)

PS: I think everyone will look incredible!

I'm sorry you won't have a shower. I'd be bummed too. Have you thought about having things custom made? I have to order all my maternity clothes because I live in the Virgin Islands and there are basically no maternity options here. If it makes you feel any better I get SUPER envious when I see the painted nurseries in the nursery thread. We'll have a nursery, we just can't paint because we are renting. Boo!

See there you go being nice and making me feel worse!! Man I have such first world problems don't I!!!

I must remember that we can't all have everything! I have been able to get some pants, and a couple of nice tops - and TBH a very lovely lady at work lent me some really nice clothing for while I need it which was amazing! And just because I cant buy something doesn't mean I cant make it! Ill have to dust off my sewing machine!

I'm with you on the painted nurseries! I hated renting for just that reason! Can you get decals to go on the walls, that you can remove? That would be a nice way of personalizing your nursery!

And now I've hijacked the thread.... I'm so sorry guys, forgive me?

  • Beautiful pics girls! Mine is on 2/9 and here in AZ you can definitely wear a summery dress. Not sure if I should look now or wait til it's closer to buy? I'm 24 weeks and will definitely need to buy something for 5 weeks out, but it's my first and showing but not showing. Want to show off the bump at the shower- maybe a BCBG dress??

  • Mid Feb- I'm on the hunt for a bump flattering dress, probably black paired with some fun jewelry. I am determined to wear cute heels (to playfully spite my crazy family who thinks heels while pregnant are too dangerous lol) and might need a size up or so- I'm waiting until it gets closer.

  • My shower is February 1st.  I'll be 31 weeks.  We're registered at BRU and Target.  I haven't purchased an outfit yet, but am hoping to find this dress at our local Motherhood store.

  • Thanks to this post, I have been obsessively trying to find a dress for my shower.

Does anyone know of any cute maternity boutiques or stores they like?

So the other day I was out with my 2 best girl friends and I said I had gotten a dress for my shower (which I thought was at the end of January- around 28 weeks).  And one of my gf's (a little tipsy) let it slip that my dress probably won't fit me by the time of my shower.....

I found out it's on my 30th Birthday (when I will be 35 weeks...in my opinion too late in the pregnancy to enjoy it or be anywhere close to comfortable or mobile enough for lifting, bending etc.) I will mention that in the very beginning of my pregnancy my SIL (who has taken over the shower) asked me when I would want it and I specifically said "February will be way too busy, and March will be too late....January would be perfect for me" and she agreed that that was the perfect time.....

So I am super grateful that anyone would go to the trouble of throwing me a shower but....
Does it make me a bitch that I'm annoyed it's that late AND on the last day when I might want to celebrate myself before baby/ get a present that's for me and not for the baby?

Even typing it I feel jerky...but (sigh) that's how I feel.

  • @missbridg I would feel the same! I'm sure you are thankful someone is throwing you a shower, but having it that late would stress me out!
  • Mine is Feb 9th, because God forbid we have it over superbowl weekend <insert eye roll here>.

Invites are out and we are registered at buy buy baby... and ive been registry stalking and getting so amped up everytime I see a new purchase :):)  I never had a wedding shower (by my choice) so a party for me is a new concept for me.. but exciting. :)

    I love your dress!!

  • I love all of these dresses ladies! My shower is Feb 9. I'm happy to just be out among people other than Doctors and hospitals. My sis and Sil picked my dress. The only adjustments they made to it was added straps for support.. Its light and freeing. I love it.
  • I have one February 22nd, and one March 9th.  Not sure what to wear, I think a dress would be too cold and I don't want to wear tights.  Thanks for posting this though, I love reading everyone else's (that has it figured out) outfits.

  • Kayrock18 HOLY SHIT that's gorgeous. Damn. Puts my maternity tarps to shame.

My BFF sortof SIL (we aren't married and I get called out on calling her SIL but I do it anyway) is throwing me a shower the 18th. I'm thinking of wearing yoga pant leggings and a nice sweater? I have long dresses but I feel like I will be freezing! It is in a church though, so I might wear this long burgundy dress.
My sister and my mom are also throwing me a shower on March 1st and I have a cute pink long dress that I'll wear to that one. I don't want to wear a short dress because I don't want my hoo-ha out when I'm balancing presents on my lap and the only short maternity dress I have does not go with leggings.

And as a disclaimer, I am so grateful to have even one shower being thrown for me. All those mama's that don't think they are getting a shower for their first born, should we all throw you guys one? Internet shower! or we could all travel to a point equidistant for all of us, but that might be tough ;]

Thank you. I love it plus it was around 100 I believe (I didn't want anything pricy that I would only be wearing once) so couldn't beat that price. I'm very grateful for my sis and Sil ,they picked it and paid for it, I had very little luck in finding anything on my own. I'm doing my photo that day as well. I haven't taken any my entire pregnancy mainly because I'm bed ridden 6days out of the week so I have no reason to take any. (10 more weeks to go)

I agree as well with throwing a internet shower for everyone who isn't having one. Everyone should have one. Don't know how that would work but I would participate.
  • My shower is Feb 16.  It's going to be a pretty laid back affair and coed so I guess I will wear whatever is clean and fairly presentable that day.  As I think about it, the array of fashion choices should be interesting.  Most of my friends attending are aging tattooed metal heads.  Then my mom and sister who are ultra fashion plates will be there too.  Hehe.
