Re: deleted post

  • I know it can be freaky when they say that but it could be a confidentiality issue.  They want to make sure they are actually giving you the results.  One care provider I saw had me set up a password so I could get results over the phone.

  • This might just be my doctor's office, but if it was anything extremely serious (i.e. life threatening or drastically effected my pregnancy), they would let me know over the phone. If it was concerning, but not needing to be immediately addressed, they would set up an appointment. If everything was normal, I just got a letter.

I get that you're frustrated and nervous - I would be too, but I'm sure privacy issues are playing a part in them not talking with you over the phone as well.

On the bright side, if it were really serious, they probably wouldn't be having you wait for an appointment, and would get you in right away.

I hope everything goes well and you receive good news at your appointment.
  • Yeah, I think that depends on the office.  I was able to get progesterone levels with this pregnancy over the phone.  It would have been a trip downtown just for that result alone.  I'm pretty sure that's how it's been for all of my pregnancies.  I wonder if this is an office by office or a state by state type of thing.

Sorry OP, that is frustrating and I know you are concerned.  The good thing to take away is that like PPer mentioned, if it was something that required immediate action, they would either have you come in ASAP or tell you over the phone.  And now you know that your office will not release information, so just expect to need to go in from now on.

  • Thanks to the person who quoted!!  Why would the OP delete it though?  It wasn't anything horrible, just a normal question.

Mine has the same thing as @suburbsmrs - I had to give info on whether they can give information over the phone in general, and then if there's anybody else who they would want me to inform in case they can't contact me (ie. my DH).

Well, maybe you learned something and won't overreact again. And please use capitalization.
  • Eh, I get being stressed out about abnormal results especially with them giving you absolutely no indication on what's going on.  Probably is confidentiality, though I've never had that issue with my office.  As PP said, maybe there's a form you can fill out so they can speak to you on the phone about things of this nature in the future?

I hope it's just something small and that you can find out what it is ASAP and relaaxxxx.  :)

  • LOL at "ya dicks". But OP, come on, if you freak out over every little thing, you are going to lose your mind. Calm it down. Here's hoping you get good results (and there's nothing to indicate that you won't).

  • Like I said, I admit to overreacting. It's a bad habit. However, thank you to the ladies who helped ease my mind. I deleted the post because it was silly of me to even post it. So let's just leave it be, eh? Must be a HIPAA regulation with the whole non disclosure thing. I'm used to things a little different being from VA. Sorry for the "freak out". Here's to hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Why would you prepare for the worst? As others have said, if it were a pressing (bad news) type thing they wouldn't make you wait. I think HIPAA is national. Also, this gives you an opportunity to discuss office procedure with them. Ask your doctor about how they do it & when you should actually be worried.

You need to take a chill pill. Parenthood will eat your lunch if you are this high strung.

  • And OP - I work at a mental health clinic and I only give my name and number when I leave messages. It's for the patients privacy. Because I don't know if its their phone or not. Or if someone else listens to their voicemails. That doesn't make me a dick.

Many offices won't leave test results on a voicemail.
