best training pants?

hi all,

i have a 20 month old, so i hope you don't mind me crashing your board for some good advice!  per my daughter's montessori teacher, it sounds like the kiddo is ready to potty train (she has older kids in her class and has been very interested.  she's also successfully peed in her potty at home nightly for the past couple of weeks), so we've been asked to buy her some training pants.

we're not allowed to use pull-ups (except for nighttime or naps) because they want her to feel wetness and accidents.  still, she's pretty little and absolutely certain to have plenty of accidents while she learns.  any advice for the best training pants?  am i supposed to just get the beefed-up underpants kind, or should i be looking for something with a waterproof cover to go over the top?

thanks!

Re: best training pants?

  • Team straight to underwear. I don't see the point of training pants. There are some thicker gerber underpants that help a little, but a full bladder will still go straight through them.
Agree.  We went straight to underwear and wouldn't recommend any other way.

  • Definitely just buy underwear. They are expensive enough.

This.  DD either peed a tiny bit and then stopped and just her underwear got wet anyway (like if she doesn't want to stop what she's doing and waits till the last minute) or she had a full on accident and training pants would have been soaked.
  • cotton underwear ;)
