Re: I want to punch myself in the face..

  • What did you buy? Anything you can return? Sell anything?

  • I'm curious as to what you bought too...
As a FTM, I'm pretty pleased with my choices in purchases/ what I registered for. But DH, was deployed for the majority of my pregnancy. I had A LOT of free time on my hands to do research! :)

  • Well, there are a few things we got for gifts (registered for) and bought that we thought we'd need but haven't really gotten our use out of them. Diaper Genie is one - I've never used it because it's in her room and we do all the diaper changes in our living room where we moved the changing table. I just got a new changing pad to go on her dresser, so maybe this will change once we start using her room more. Also the pack n' play - she slept in the infant napper for maybe 2 or 3 nights. We haven't used it since then it's just been in our room collecting clothes. Again, this may change as she gets old. I just returned a pack of Tommee Tippee 9oz bottles that I got and never opened because we ended up liking Avent better, and I also returned the infant insert to the Ergo that we got. She didn't like the Ergo until recently, and the infant insert isn't really needed anymore.

  • I would say there are only a few small things I regret, the bottle warmer is one. It was a gift but I hate thinking that someone bought us something that we won't use much.

  • Amazon is dangerous!  I read threads on here about different products, then I have to go look them up, then I want to get them for LO.  I have started putting items I would like to buy on my wish list and thinking about them.  When I was at work I would think I need something, but forget to buy it unless I really needed it.  Currently I really want a Ergo carrier and a tablet, but I have resisted buying them so far.

  • I would definitely say few different higher priced bottles( he prefers the cheap ones that came with my pump). So many clothes that he didn't even get to wear before he grew out of them. And a ton of stupid accessories that I've never touched. SMH....... [-(
  • When I first read this post, I thought you meant recently you've been doing a lot of shopping. I am totally guilty of that, I blame it on the snowstorm! :)

I was fortunate to not have to buy much after all of my showers. I did return several things tho (duplicates, a bottle warmer and wipes warmer and some other things) that we didn't need. I also had read things on here along with reviews on Amazon and changed my mind on many things.

  • Nah, I'm pretty happy

I don't love the changing table. We've never used it. But I didn't buy it. MIL did

Whaaa? This thing is a freaking lifesaver for us.  3 minutes and done.  The hot water in a cup takes forever!

@PixiesDust there you go reading my mind again.

Our pnp was in our room, and LO preferred the RnP, so it, too, became a clothes-catcher. Over Christmas, I finally packed it up and took it to MIL where it will stay. And probably become a purchase I regret due to lack of use. b-(

  • Probably the only thing that was useless for us was the moby. And that is only because DD HATES it. It was a gift, but still. We only used the PNP once, overnight at the inlaws. My parents have a crib. She pretty much just slept with me or in her bassinet stroller attachment other than that one night. When she gets a little older she will probably sleep in the PNP when we are there.

  • I regret the swing we registered for. Dd doesn't love it. We picked it because it was a bouncy and swing in one so it was a space saver. I get 15 minutes at most and then she's over it. For $189 I wish it was a little more appealing to her. also, bottle sanitizer is going back and all breast feeding related items (unused) are going back. We love our bottle warmer. It has a cooler section in the back so we can pack it for the night.

  • Well, I use most of the stuff because I have it, but definitely didn't need it all. I don't live close to anything so I do a lot of online shopping.. Also some stuff I wish I would have gotten cheaper versions or borrowed or bought used. We bought the my little snugamonkey swing, she slept in it for the first couple of weeks and now at 3 months hates it. The pack n play we use for a changing table but didn't necessarily need to spend the money. We bought and unpacked an infantino carrier, hated it, got a Moby and she loved it but just didn't use it enough while she loved it, now she hates it.. Bought the ergo which is awesome but thought I needed the infant insert, not so much. I have tons of Dr Browns bottles she didn't like, then I bought a lot of the 4 oz Avent bottles and it just seems like a waste since she doesn't use them now that she takes 5 to 6 oz. I bought a 70 dollar diaper bag and later found one I like much better for half the price. Tons and tons of clothes she grew out of before wearing or I got the wrong season/size pairing.. Like ugg bixbe shoes that will fit her in mid summer. I got her an adorable snow suit thing that was 40 bucks that she hasn't worn because I refuse to take her outside. I spent 75 dollars on her Christmas outfit and changed her out of it into a sleeper shortly after putting it on. I bought tons of pacifiers she doesn't even like, I got and activity mat she could care less about, she doesn't like the magical seahorse thing I had to buy. I haven't used the dishwasher basket thing I got.. Or the tons of extra nipple pads and creams, or the wipe warmer.
My point is- I bought and unpacked a ton of stuff trying to be prepared and now know I could have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars lol

My favorite things I've got are the boom grass drying rack, bottle warmer, and rock n play!

Also so far the PNP has been useless but once we start going on vacation and stuff I'm sure we will get a lot more use out of it.
This is what I keep thinking. Especially as she gets older and is mobile.

We just use it as a changing table for now in our living room, lol.

  • Just the bottles. She will take tommee tippee now but we had to buy the ventaire when she was younger. I would like to have all the same but I took the damn TT out of the boxes and washed them while I was pregnant so I couldn't return them.

  • The PnP, definitely. I wanted that thing so badly, hunted it down when the one we liked went on clearance. It's still in the box. I may get some use out of it if DH goes back to work and my mom takes care of LO, but so far, it's just been a waste.

  • Wow.  So interesting how different the LOs are and all the different approaches.  We love the PnP.  LO has slept in the bassinet from day 1 and it's still in our room.  I know we'll continue to get use out of it as a playpen when she's older.  We use her bottle warmer every day.  Warming the bottles has helped so much with her gas and digestion.  We couldn't go without it.  We don't own a RnP so many of you have raved about.

The only thing we have too much of is clothes, and I didn't buy them. The PnP wasn't getting much use until recently. We just started using it at night, instead of RnP. When she moves to her crib, the PnP will go downstairs & I know it will get used a lot there too.

  • We got the pnp  that came with a separate bassinet and LO has slept in that bassinet since coming home. In recently put the PNP in our room thinking it might be bigger for her to sleep in now but the attached bassinet isn't much bigger and the PNP by itself is too low down to gracefully put her down when she falls asleep.

  • Nursing paraphernalia...you know, because I fail at nursing. And the Moby; we haven't even used it. I use the K'Tan and my husband uses the Ergo. Oh well.

I should say that I still wear my nursing tanks, but I could do without that damn snap that likes to unclip at inopportune times. :-q

  • Shoes!!!! We received at least 20 pairs of baby shoes as gifts and all they do is fall off. I'm thinking of making christmas ornaments out of them for a mini tree.

I grew like half a size in bras during first tri. I figured it was only the beginning so I bought a full size larger. I now have these big boulder holder (pricey) bras that are useless.

Do you have a baby/maternity consignment store? I bet you could get decent money for them.
Nope :( none of those around here that I know about but I'll definitely check just in case. That's a good idea. Thank you!

  • Diaper Genie. We never opened it as we were moving into a new house. I figured we survived 2+ months without it, so we returned it.

Also, so many clothes. LO lives in onesies and pants or one piece outfits. Wish we didn't buy all the outfits with a sweatshirt, etc or "jackets."
