Cloth Diapering

Thirsties/Flip covers wearing out and leaking?

A little background: I've been using CDs for my daughter since she was about 2 months and she is almost 2 years, so our diapers have definitely been well-used and loved. Overall I've been very satisfied with covers & prefolds.

However, I've noticed that several of our covers (both flips and thirsty duo wraps) are leaking. There are dozens of tiny "cracks" or tears in the PUL on the inside of the diaper, toward the back. I tried googling, but I'm not coming up with any explanations. Is this normal wear and tear? Any other ideas? I was hoping to reuse our covers for our second baby. :( I do a cold rinse, hot wash, cold rinse and dry them outside on the clothesline or a drying rack.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Thirsties/Flip covers wearing out and leaking?

  • @brandilc84 I don't live in a particularly hot state and I'm guessing it's not heat related since I've been drying them inside on a drying rack over the winter (and the cracks have only appeared within the past few months...) I have not used bleach. I have used blue dawn to strip everything occasionally, but generally no more than every 2-3 months.

@NVandGZ, I'm not honestly sure. I have enough covers to last three days easily though.

Sorry for the delayed response, I had to post and run yesterday! Thanks for your ideas. :)
