I opted for an NT scan, but my doc's nurse is saying that it will be done at 16 wks. Everything I've seen from Dr. Google says they are done around 12 wks though. Anyone else being told they have to wait?
When i called to schedule mine, they said had it to be done in week 12. I have seen it done anywhere from 12-14 weeks, 16 seems really late and almost pointless with the A/S so close.
I know that the other ladies have said it, but just to let you know...the pamphlet my doctor gave me that provided information about the various tests and timelines stated that the NT scan must be done by the 14th week (I believe you can do it while you are 14 weeks but by the time you hit 15 it is too late). It can be done as early as 11 weeks so you have a decent time frame.
If it were me, I would call the office back and ask to talk to the OB nurse again.
I'm a STM, but clueless as to what an NT scan is?? It was never offered during my first pregnancy.
It's the nuchal translucency scan. It's offered more to older moms or those that may be at a higher risk for chromosome defects. They measure the translucent space behind the fetus's neck. More space could indicate a higher risk of a defect. There is also blood work. My OB's office said 11-13 weeks was the window.
This time was the first time I had it, but I am considered "advanced maternal age", plus both of my children were born with congenital heart defects.

My office also doesn't do the scan, they send me to a specialist for the NT. If your office is like mine, you need to find out if they are making the NT US appt for you or if you need to contact a specialist yourself.
@Salsera29 -- Kind of nervous about it -- Haven't seen LO since I was 6w5d -- This will be the first time DH sees the LO at all -- Good luck
I'm really, really nervous. I saw LO at 10 weeks so I'm pretty sure everything is ok there, but I'm terrified of birth defects. It doesn't help that DH and I are on different pages on how to handle that so everything really, really needs to be ok. Good luck to you too!
I had the ultrasound piece done at 12w, they also drew some blood, like my previous pregnancy I have to go back at 16w for them to draw another vial of blood for the 2nd part of the NT scan.
I had my NT ultrasound last week at 12w5d (only did it that late because we were out of town for the holidays) and I had the first blood draw right after the scan. I go for my second blood draw after the 17th.
My NT is scheduled at 13w4days and that's cutting it close. At the time I asked to have it done 14w1d so DH could be there and they refused because it would be too late. Hope you get this clarified with your dr!
I have mine scheduled for Friday when I will be 13 weeks. We don't have any risk factors but I needed an u/s to check on an ovarian cyst so we decided to go ahead & do both at the same time.
@simplecomplexity I just had my 12 week appointment and didn't do a NT scan because I'm low risk and my doctor said that they're not always covered by insurance. I will do a blood test at 16 weeks (probably what your drs office was talking about) that will give information about genetic disorders. The one at 16 weeks is called the AFP (https://www.webmd.com/baby/alpha-fetoprotein-afp-in-blood) From what my doctor was telling me, the main reason you would do the NT scan is to know earlier, especially if knowing that there is a problem would result in termination, as it is easier to terminate at 12 weeks than 16 weeks.
Since I'm low risk + wouldn't change the pregnancy if there were issues + insurance may not cover the NT scan, I decided to just wait for the 16 week blood work. My only regret is not having an excuse to see the baby again =P
I'm guessing that's where the confusion is coming in. In one of my early appointments my doctor went over the schedule for tests and we decided then that I wouldn't do the NT scan. I had forgotten that so got a little freaked out when there wasn't a NT scan scheduled for my appointment yesterday but we figured it out pretty quickly.

I don't know how they don't do an U/S -- An NT scan is a blood work panel plus a U/S that measures the spaces in the neck as @SweetTamale38 mentioned.
I don't think that they are doing an NT scan if they don't have an U/S...
My office said that they do it in the 12th week and have mine scheduled for 1/14
