Update - Official IUGR diagnosis

During my last growth scan three weeks ago, baby was in the 17th percentile. Today he was in the 2nd.

I'm being admitted to l&d for monitoring and they will definitely take him out at 37 weeks (2 weeks from now) but possibly before if the nsts and bpps show any issues.

I know 35 weeks isn't that, that early but he's so small.

Update - after being monitored for 24 hours on a fetal heart rate monitor and getting another BPP and a contraction stress test, they told me that I could go home.  Baby is going to come on 1/20 now, instead of 2/10, probably via c-section since he's breech.

I'm so sorry. I know you've been so worried about this. Remember that right now you are in the BEST spot to help him be healthy.

I think that IUGR babies make up weight spectacularly well after birth. Have your doctors mentioned that? I know he's tiny, but remember he's your son so he's also strong.

  • I'm so sorry sweetie. @rondackhiker is right- iugr babies do catch up to their peers really well. I told you in a PM, but David was 11% yesterday- if we had left him in, I know his % would have kept getting lower and he would have been iugr too. He's doing really well and you're already further along too- little dj is going to be just fine, I know it.

Are you in HRP? Maybe I'll stop by and say hi when DH wheels me to the nicu sometime? I'm still in my original room there until I'm discharged on Friday.
Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. <3

FWIW my friend had a 35wker with IUGR/Pre-E, he was only 4lbs when he was born. He's now 3yrs old and doing great, meeting all his milestones, etc.

You will both be in my thoughts and prayers the next few weeks!

  • I'm sorry to hear this diagnosis, but I'm glad you're getting good follow up care.  I also got an IUGR diagnosis for baby recently, so I understand the stress and worry!!  I'd be happy to talk about any questions, similar experiences, etc...if you need to!!!  I hope LO hangs on until 37 weeks, and FX for some great growth between now and then!

  • So sorry for the diagnosis.  :(  I know how you're feeling about the baby being so small. My baby b is in the third percentile, so they're taking them on Thursday.  I know it's hard to think about them being so small,  but I'm sure LO will thrive on the outside.

Good luck and I am hoping for lots of growth and phenomenal bpp's!!
