MIF SA help???

If your SO has MIF can you share with me the SA numbers for count, motility and morphology?

I will here in here in a few but I gotta go dig the paper out. It's outdated- from 2008.

His count was shitty. 52 million but only 16 million of those were "live" and we generally only had 3 million post wash for IUI.

His motility was crappy too. I'll get the numbers for ya.

DH had 25 million live, 30% motility with the last abnormal test was 12.5% and morphology was 17.5%. My RE all the sudden was being rushed on the phone with me and didn't explain anything and ask for us to come in if we wanted to discuss the results further. I'm so frustrated!

Now suspected MFI, based on one SA (I think I'm going to ask for a repeat just to see if it varies, hopefully for the better...):

Count ~37 million

Motility 51 or 52%

Morphology 3.5%

High Viscosity

Annibes, I think we're going to ask for a repeat because he has had 3 in the last year and a half. One with low motility, one completely normal and now this one.

I've gotten pregnant but miscarried and I feel like our RE is all the sudden dismissing us. Ugh!

Argh. You deserve better. Get that repeat and make that RE talk to you!!!! Any other REs around you could choose?

Do it. I think these professionals are so disconnected from the devastation they are dealing with sometimes. We're not case numbers, mean old doctors!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I don't understand much of this myself but here it is:

Motility 32L (I don't know what that means but we were told it was not good)

The paper I'm looking at has a reference range of 50-100 (I guess
that's what they deem "normal".

His morphology is 0-4%

These results are from 2008. I got pregnant with DS in 2011.

This time around I got pregnant 5 months into trying (CP)

That's the beauty of MFI - it can change.

Your DH's results could be much worse IMO and I think you have a lot to work with

We are at severe mfi. He was at 600,000 (so just above half a million- barely anything to start with) and like 50% of that motility issues, 50% of that morphology issues... And it just goes on. BUT he just did new sample to see if surgery he had helped. These numbers were from egg retrieval day back in June 2010- he had another that brought him up to a cool million (haha) in September 2011 and had slightly better morph/mot/whatever. I'll come back on Monday after doctor call with results to find out and update if better or worse numbers. We weren't quite at NSA but is possibility in future.

What surgery did he have? I can't remember!

Ohh I think I do remember you talking about that. I might have to pick your brain about it sometime. DH has one in each side (one large, one small, but both clinical) and the doctors said they didn't think surgery would help but I don't believe them.

Ask away anytime. The prognosis is about 30% get better, 30% no change, and about 30% get worse. Great odds huh? But for my hubs his was so bad the goal was really to stop further harm/ deterioration. Better blood supply better overall right? But if your hubs isn't as bad he might have better results. Just make sure you get a good doctor with experience. We had best in our area and he told us exactly how it was and what to expect. He was dead on and we are glad we did it when we did bc we think had we waited he'd be in worse shape as far as his guys were going.

Thanks for the info! I think, THINK we've decided on a "plan." If we get the OK from genetics to do an IUI, we will try one or two of those and then go for the surgery. In ideal land (I mean, unless I get pregnant naturally) I would want him to have the surgery while I'm pregnant with # 2, so we go could go for #3 naturally, but that's counting in IUI working or a surprise BFP. Cart before horse, I know. But that's how I roll.

Good plan. I forgot earlier (2011 hubs had his surgery) but they say six months to a year to determine results of surgery. He had his while we were pregnant with number one. That have plenty if time for recovery and whatever was going to happen to happen!

Ok! Just got off phone and came to answer you first! Hub's numbers before: 600,000 and they couldn't test morphology bc not enough, but motility was 35%
Now- 3million (not enough- but hella better huh?!?! Who would think if be excited hearing 3 million????) w 65% motility (they want over 40% but he doubled last one!) and 1% morphology (not great, but they could actually test it!!!)
So there you go! We just started him today on fertility blend- figure hell, couldn't hurt, might help!

Ok.. So tried replying, quoting and editing... Won't take my typing on laptop, so back on mobile... Was asking if knew why TLooney17 reason for drop and what supplements?

We were not given a reason for the drop. The uro did not find any physical issues such as a varicocele. He basically said sometimes there are genetic issues, and if it's a genetic problem than there is no treatment.
We were given a list of supplements that include: CoQ10, a men's health multi-vitamin, and L-carnitine. My DH takes the L-carnitine twice daily, but the other supplements are just once. There is one more supplement that he was told to take & I can't remember right off the top of my head. He also suggested cutting alcohol down to 4 drinks a week, cutting tobacco totally ( my DH doesn't smoke), switching to boxers, and an overall healthy diet and lifestyle. My husband is not overweight, so he said that was not a factor.
Basically we were told if the supplements & clomid do not help than IVF will be our option. He also said his counts could get progressively worse quickly, so he suggested freezing sperm on our next SA just in case.

Oh man! That is crazy. I hate not knowing and feel for you guys. I hope all the supplements and clomid work! I would definitely freeze some! We did before dh's surgery, ended up discarding as he got slightly better, but just good insurance.
