My dd has lost a pound. They upped the strength of her axid medicine
and to give her tylenol 30 minutes before she eats. I really hope this
works. They said if shes not eating better by 2 weeks they will refer
her to a feeding specialist. They said they are not worried until she loses 10 percent of her body weight, she was 18 lbs so that is 1.8
this was yesterdays post
She used to eat 51/2-6 ounces of enfamil lipil every two-three hours with no problem. She had been spitting up a lot so we started her on axid b/c the doctor thought she has acid reflux. Then she got an ear infection which then led to thrush because of the antibiotic and we got rid of that. Now it is a pain to get her to eat. I know shes hungry but she will clinch her lips tight and cry. She has bad gas tried mylicon and didn't help. Dh told the doctor but they acted like its no big deal. I can hardly get her to eat 3-4 ounces every 4 hours. This has been going on for a month now. Sometimes it will be 5 hours before she eats. She will suck on her pacifier but not eat from the bottle. She is only getting less than 18-20 a day and she almost 6 months old and 19lbs at the last checkup. Last night she throw up her bottle 3oz less than 10 minutes after drinking it. She throw up her bottle 3 times in a row. I don't know whats wrong with her, I know shes hungry but she wont eat, she just cries. We use enfamil lipil, tried the target brand, and regular similac and there is no difference. I don't know whats wrong with her
Re: update to the feeding issue post yesterday
Try not to worry, at least not yet. The Doctors are right. If she hasn't lost 10% of her body weight, she's still ok.
How much did she weigh when she was born? A good weight gain is double the birth weight by six months, triple by a year old. So, unless she was 9 lbs at birth, I'm sure she's ok. It's possible that the meds are ruining her appetite (?)
Does she eat at night? She should be able to go 12 hours at night by four months old. Another thing that might be overlooked and making you worry (?)
My DS only ate 4oz over 4 to 5 hours by the time he was 5 months old. And he stayed at that until he was nearly 8 months old and eating most of the food groups. Granted, he's a skinny 2 year old, but he's healthy and active (and super cute too!)
