I had an emergency C-section with DS, and while yes, you are recovering from surgery, they aren't that bad. If you do, my advice is get up and walk as soon as you can. Not immediately of course, but when you can. When my Dr. told me that, I probably looked at him like he was crazy, but the sooner you get up, the quicker the recovery. I was just glad my son was here safe and sound. Also found out later how much danger he had been in, but being first time mom I was oblivious.
Also, I was 10lbs 2oz baby, and my mom had me vaginally apparently with ease. She said she felt like she needed to push so she asked the nurse if she could, the nurse was like sure sure... then turned to get something out of the cupboard. Next thing mom heard her gasp and drop whatever she had been getting, and I beat the Dr into the room So big doesn't mean C-section.
I pray that everything goes smoothly and I can avoid csection. This is my first baby after ttc for a while. I'd love to push then be able to have this miracle on my chest until... I have no idea. Haha. Go pee? I don't know what you do after a baby comes out.
I don't think of 10lb babies as that big. People have them every day. It frustrates me to hear people talk about their doctors not "letting them" try for a vaginal delivery. If that is truly what you want, and there is no immediate danger, you have every right to deny a C-section. My DD was the smallest baby in our family at 8lbs15oz. My mom gave birth to my 12lb8oz brother vaginally. 10lbs does not always mean C-section.
I'm scheduling a c section. With my first, I found out (during my induction) my hips are too narrow to give birth vaginally and his heart beat was falling so I had to have an emergency c section. I was sad, so sad I started crying on the operating table while they were prepping me (so embarrassing). Now, I'm used to the idea. I'm lucky I get to give birth to a baby in any way. The c section wasn't bad and I healed nicely. If you have to have one, I'm sure you'll do great! : )

I agree that a lot of women can give birth to 10 pounders with ease, but I thank God I chose a c/s because if I had opted a TOL I may have ended up with an emergency c/s or a baby with shoulder dystocia. Because I'm so small and my baby was large (including his head circumference), it was a matter of cephalopelvic disproportion rather than just macrosomia.
Please mamas, don't ever judge another mom for having a c/s - most of us have some sort of mommy guilt about it already, warranted or not.
@embracingchange and @ncbelle did your dr's mention inducing you early this time? My DD was 9lbs 13 oz and they said they want to induce me early this time. I see midwives.
I see a midwife and I won't be inducing for sure. It even goes against ACOG policy - which is pretty mainstream! - to induce for suspected size.
My doctor doesn't even hypothesize on size. she said it is almost never correct. People told me I would have a nine pounder. Um, no. Six pounds later....
