May 2014 Moms

Had my A/S and I need some help....

So the tech said she was 98% sure it's a girl but......When I was 16 weeks I got rear-ended and got an emergency ultrasound and the tech said it was a girl. I wanted to be sure so I paid for an elective gender prediction ultrasound and the tech said a girl but then I saw something and she looked again and said its a boy:/ So I'm wondering what to believe now! I already brought boy stuff lol I'm super annoyed by all of it. I really really want a girl becuz I already have 2 boys!

  • wait, so what exactly do you need help with.
  • so 2.5 out of your three u/s have said girl?  I'd go with girl.

  • It's never 100% certain until that baby is born. That's why (among other reasons) most of my gear will be gender neutral. You can get another opinion, but I doubt it's going to stop you from questioning if one of the 3 prior u/s were correct.

  • those elective places are not known for being accurate.. go with your a/s

How far along were you at your A/S?
  • I got the A/S today and I'm 21 wks and 6 days
  • If I should go with its a Girl?
  • We don't know any more than you do, so I'm confused. Sorry.

I'd go with the most recent one, especially if it was performed by someone at your OB's office and not an elective boutique or a general-purpose hospital sonography department. The larger and more developed a baby becomes, the easier it is to see the genitals, and the clearer the image becomes.

But if you're still not sure, wait till your next ultrasound.

  • Sounds like a girl but I would still buy yellow and green to be safe
  • I'd go with what the medical pros said, but nothing is ever 100% either way until that baby is born.

  • Crazy I don't know, but I'm glad you are alright after the car accident. When is your anatomy scan? I would wait and talk to your dr. Before you start buying girl/ boy things.
  • I had my scan today.
  • wait, so what exactly do you need help with.
This.  Are you asking if we know the sex? Or to wait until delivery? You'll get another ultrasound at 28ish weeks, won't you? Ask your OB again then.

  • With my ob the a/s is the last ultrasound (unless you have other concerns to monitor) I would say a/s scan is the one to trust, but as others mentioned you never have a guarantee :)

  • I'd probably go with what they said at the a/s.  My mom for some reason is so paranoid that mine is *not* a girl (which they told me it was) after watching my a/s video.  They just didn't get enough angles to convince her.  She wants me to ask for another u/s at my next appt just to be sure.  I was like… no, that's mental.  I'm sure they know what angles to check better than you.

  • Buy a bunch of white onesies and send DH to Target with a wishlist after birth.  A week or so before EDD make a wishlist just for DH if it's a boy or a girl.  That way you get to shop and pick out things you like without going through the return process postpartum.

  • My OB does a U/S around 34 weeks to determine the baby's weight, and at that time they confirmed the gender for us. The elective places are not really known for being super accurate and from the sound of it the tech there was guessing... I would trust in the A/S as baby is now big enough and the techs at your OB should know what they are doing.

The 2nd tri bloodwork? Nope. It checks for Down Syndrome and Spina Bifida.
