Exercise!

Anyone following a exercise routine, or using a video or DVD they are liking? Please share! I need to tone a little now that I'm out of my "no carb left behind" diet/cravings.
On another note. I did squats and lunges today and when I was done my belly felt tight like a BH. Those of you who have been exercising consistently, are you feeling them and do you know if that's a sign of over exertion? Ty!!

Re: Exercise!

  • I really like the Body by Trimester DVD's.  There are 2 workouts for each trimester, plus a 15 minute quick work out.  The workouts are only 30 min long, so no excuses!  I got it on Amazon.

  • I do Lindsay Brin's complete pregnancy in addition to crunch prenatal yoga. I don't get any pains from working out, usually I get pain relief!

Second. I actually ordered it based on @jschwind22 recommending on a different thread a while ago and I really like it. I feel decently sore after for such a compact (time-wise) workout. I also have Suzanne Bowen's Slim & Toned barre workout. I like that, too, but it feels more repetitive than the other.

  • @babyaotw it wasn't so much a pain, just a tightness in my belly.

I run(now run/walk) 3 days a week for an hour and go to a weight class 1 day a week. Sometimes I add in another day of weights or an elliptical day.

I don't feel tightness, but the impact of running makes me feel like I have to pee constantly!
  • I do the elliptical at the gym 2-3 times a week, and take our dog for walks when it isn't too icy. I have also really been liking the 10 minute solutions prenatal Pilates DVD. I also recently got the Summer Sander's Prenatal
Workout DVD, but I haven't tried it yet.

  • I used to walk my dog at least twice a day. Having a toddler makes that hard to do, especially when it's this cold! So I definitely need to change my routine before I start getting away from myself. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

  • I actually have been doing more lifting than cardio, typically 2-3 times a week. I work with a trainer at least 1 of those times. But I primarily do lunges with weights, squats, step ups, rowing, lower back, some seated ab work, and upper body (shoulders/chest). With the trainer I'm able to work on some of the tougher muscle groups, but I noticed it's been making a huge difference recently.
I've never felt the tightness in my stomach though.

  • I do not work out at home very well. I do not havr the same discipline I used to. So I do bootcamp twice a week, just started prenatal swimming classes twice a week and am still debating if I want to continue belly dance classes. I do get tightness after a workout but nothing to the point where its worrisome.
  • I'm completely in love with Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home and Walk Away the Pounds videos. You alternate aerobics-type moves with walking briskly in place. They're not new and they're definitely not cool or trendy, but they're effective and safe and the instructor is very positive and encouraging. I aim for a 2-mile workout 5 nights a week, though I've done a 3-mile workout on occasion. So far it's kept my BP down and my energy level up. I just slow down a little if I find myself weak or wobbly or huffing and puffing too hard.

Lol! DH and I are thinking of taking our dogs to Towsley, but I'm worried about the bathroom situation!

Lol! We were just discussing Towsley. There was a porta potty (sp?!?) towards the top of the placerita canyon hike. They were actually really clean. Lots of people had their dogs in Placerita Canyon. We might bring a dog with us next week. I would like to make it a weekly thing - the fresh air felt so great.

Just tried my summer sanders DVD today. I started with the express workout. I like the DVD bc it breaks it down by trimester. And summer is pretty cute in like a nonweird way. Like shes funny and seems normal. It was a decent workout nothing crazy. The trainer is kind of awkward but it's easy to ignore.
  • I was doing kickboxing, body pump, running, and 360 body toning classes at my gym (Gold's) up until a week ago. My OB has me on a modified gym routine due to marginal placenta previa. Now I use the elliptical, take my dog for 2-3 mile walks, and do yoga classes. I never had any tightness in my abdomen (except for doing core/ab work) - I began to modify it once I felt that. If you are taking classes, talk to your instructor and OB.

@candrew05 - what do you think about your prenatal swimming class? I'm looking at trying one out this week. Do you just do laps or is there more to it?

  • I started with turbofire but a few weeks ago tapered it off bc of all the twists, punches and kicks causesd a lot of abdominal discomfort. I've been using Lindsay brins workout like a pp said 3x a week and then I add a 10 min video from Heidi Klums trainer on fit sugar plus a 10 min second tri yoga session 2x a week. That's my goal...some weeks I do less but that's ok!

My midwife said if during core work I get cramps or pull feelings, to refrain from doing it. I would take this same advice with any workout :)

  • I do pregnant pilates. And if I'm not in the mood for that, then I do my exercise bike. After I do pilates, I can totally feel where baby is located. He moves a lot when I do them, and afterwards my belly feels hard. That could be what you're feeling. But that's just a guess!

  • I do Lindsay Brin's trimester-based workout. I also do the Summer Sanders prenatal workout. It's pretty good! I'll walk on an incline on the treadmill, too. I've stopped all high-impact exercise at this point (afraid of another preemie - plus my cervix is on the shorter side), so I'm jealous of you runners!

  • Man, kudos to all you ladies working hard! I am finding it hard to make time between work and toddler-chasing. DH and I just downloaded the BodBot app for our phones.
It lets you customize where you work out (home or gym), what your goal is (tone, strengthen, weight loss, etc.) and how intense you want your program to be. So far so good. We are trying to get some motivation back!

Its like an aquatic aerobics class almost if you've ever done one of those. Sometimes we do laps and we do a lot of stretches and a mini workout routine. I'd suggest trying one for sure! Its by far the easiest on my joints.
  • @pandadair There are a few. Leslie's are just set to hymns and have a couple of Bible verses quoted on the screen. I think they're intended to be used in the morning, for prayer/devotional time, since a lot of people like to pray and meditate on scripture while they exercise.

Totally makes sense, I'd just never thought about it before. And thanks to prancercise lady, all I can picture is her, but with Bible verses.
