Breast milk queston

Hey ladies, having to do a bit of pumping because LO is having latching issues. Question, had about an ounce of breast milk in the fridge. I took it out because I was going to syringe feed it to Nate after he nursed, but he ended up nursing for over a half hour and didn't need it. It got to room temp. Can I still put it back in the fridge and use it or do I have to throw it away?

  • Do NOT throw it away. Yes, you can put it back in the fridge. I wouldn't recommend repeating it many times but once is definitely ok. Unlike formula BM has natural anti-microbial properties which ensures that it is much more "durable". In fact, most LCs will tell you that (again unlike formula) if baby doesn't finish the bottle it's ok to put it back in the fridge for one more feeding attempt later.

  • Ahh so happy to hear that! Thanks for the link @benjaminsmommy16! I had put it back in the fridge after about an hour just in case, but very glad it won't go to waste.
